WRC;OGIER : Doubles champions du monde ! / Two-time world champions!
Sous réserve des résultats officiels publiés par la FIA, Sébastien Ogier et son copilote Julien Ingrassia ont décroché leur second titre mondial consécutif à l’issue du RallyRACC-Rally de Espana.
Marié à l’été, champion en fin d’année ! 2014 est une année faste pour le Français Sébastien Ogier qui a coiffé une seconde couronne mondiale à l’issue du RallyRACC-Rally de Espana. C’est d’ailleurs la première fois qu’il est titré à la fin d’un rallye !
« Sur le moment, à l’arrivée de la dernière spéciale, l’émotion était beaucoup plus forte que l’an passé où j’avais été titré un peu bizarrement en début de rallye. Il avait fallu ensuite trouver la motivation… » reconnaissait Seb au parc d’assistance où l’attendait une nuée de fans beuglant laMarseillaise. « Là, il a fallu se battre tout le week-end avec un Jari-Matti toujours aussi coriace. Je pense qu’on a fait le break le premier jour, mais ensuite, il a fallu contrôler et c’est long, deux jours de course ! »
« On mérite ce deuxième titre sur l’ensemble de la saison. Ok, on a connu un faux-pas en Allemagne et un autre en France qui n’était pas de notre faute. Oui, on avait une certaine pression après le Rallye de France, mais ce week-end a été parfait pour nous. »
Vainqueur de sept rallyes cette saison, Sébastien Ogier rejoint le cercle des doubles champions du monde, Walter Rohrl, Miki Biasion, Carlos Sainz et Marcus Grönholm. Ce week-end, Sébastien Ogier et Julien Ingrassia ont également remporté leur 23e victoire mondiale, et signé leur 34epodium. Ils égalent donc le nombre de podiums réalisés par Richard Burns/Robert Ried et Didier Auriol/Bernard Occelli.
Cette victoire espagnole est aussi la 16e pour Sébastien Ogier avec Volkswagen Motorsport. Le pilote français et le constructeur allemand rejoignent donc au palmarès les célèbres associations Subaru/McRae ou encore Lancia/Biasion. Seuls Citroën/Loeb (78), Mitsubishi/Mäkinen (22) et Grönholm/Peugeot (18) ont fait mieux jusque-là.
Ce week-end, la Fédération Internationale du Sport Automobile a trouvé deux nouveaux champions du monde 2014 : Seb Ogier en WRC et « Pechito » Lopez en WTCC. Ces deux séries avaient déjà couronnés les constructeurs, avec Volkswagen et Citroën.
En WRC, il ne reste plus que le titre WRC-2 à attribuer lors de la finale, au Wales Rally GB, sans oublier le titre de vice-champion du monde Constructeurs que se disputeront Citroën-Total Abu Dhabi (187 pts), M-Sport (180) et Hyundai Motorsport (175).
Subject to the official results published by the FIA, Sébastien Ogier and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia clinched their second consecutive world championship titles today in Spain.
Married in the summer, world champion at the end of the year! 2014 has turned into a memorable year for Frenchman Sébastien Ogier, who sealed his second world championship crown at the end of RallyRACC-Rally de España. What’s more, it marks the first time he has won the title at the end of a rally!
“At that moment, at the end of the final stage, the emotion was much stronger than last year when I became champion in slightly unusual circumstances at the beginning of a rally. After that, I needed to re-motivate myself...” reflected Seb upon his return to the service park, where he was greeted by a throng of fans bellowing out the French national anthem.
“This time, I needed to fight hard all weekend against Jari-Matti [Latvala – team-mate], who never gave me much breathing space. Julien and I made a break on the opening day, but after that, we still needed to control proceedings – and two days of rallying is a long time!
“This second title was achieved over the balance of the whole season. Admittedly, we made a mistake in Germany and ran into another hitch in France that was not our fault. That left us under a certain degree of pressure heading to Spain, but this weekend unfolded perfectly for us.”
Having won seven rallies this season, Sébastien Ogier now joins the club of double world champions which also includes Walter Röhrl, Miki Biasion, Carlos Sainz and Marcus Grönholm.
This weekend, Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia also secured their 23rd WRC victory and 34thpodium finish, thereby equalling the number of rostrums tallied by Richard Burns/Robert Reid and Didier Auriol/Bernard Occelli.
Moreover, Sébastien Ogier’s Spanish success marks his 16th triumph with Volkswagen Motorsport, lifting the French driver and German manufacturer level in the record books with the famous Subaru/McRae and Lancia/Biasion partnerships. Only Citroën/Loeb (78), Mitsubishi/Mäkinen (22) and Grönholm/Peugeot (18) feature higher up.
This weekend, indeed, the FIA has crowned two 2014 world champions: Seb Ogier in the WRC and ‘Pechito’ Lopez in the WTCC. Volkswagen and Citroën had already wrapped up the manufacturers’ laurels in the two series respectively.
In the WRC, the only title left to be decided now in the season finale at Wales Rally GB is that in WRC-2, without forgetting the three-way tussle over the runner-up spoils in the Manufacturers’ standings between Citroën-Total Abu Dhabi (187 pts), M-Sport (180) and Hyundai Motorsport (175).

Valentino Rossi et Jorge Lorenzo ont pris les seconde et troisième places au Grand Prix Shell Advance de Malaisie, derrière Marc Márquez.
Sixième sur la grille de départ, Valentino Rossi est très bien parti à Sepang et était déjà en seconde position dans le deuxième tour. L'Italien a traqué son coéquipier pour passer à l'attaque juste au moment de passer le cap de la mi-course et a ensuite brièvement mené jusqu'à être à son tour devancé par Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda).
Rossi a réussi à rester dans la roue du Champion du Monde MotoGP™ 2014 pour plusieurs tours mais n'a pas pu reprendre l'avantage et a fini par perdre du terrain et rallier l'arrivée à un peu plus de deux secondes du vainqueur.
« Je suis très content de cette deuxième place. C'est un résultat vraiment important, nous avions eu beaucoup de mal ce week-end mais nous avons réussi à régler la moto lors du warm-up, » a expliqué Rossi. « Je n'avais pas été performant pour les essais, je ne pouvais pas pousser à 100%. Ça faisait longtemps que je n'étais pas monté sur le podium ici, peut-être 2010. J'adore ce circuit et c'est donc génial d'avoir réussi. »
« Je me suis battu avec Jorge au début et c'était mon objectif puisque nous luttons pour la seconde place du Championnat. Après ça, j'ai eu un bon rythme et je me suis battu avec Márquez pour la victoire mais les pneus commençaient à faiblir et Márquez avait quelque chose en plus. J'ai dû ralentir alors qu'il a pu continuer au même rythme mais ça reste un excellent résultat. Nous avons maintenant deux fois plus de victoires et de podiums que l'an dernier, la saison a été excellente. »
Seul des pilotes du podium à avoir choisi le pneu dur à l'avant, Lorenzo a fini une seconde derrière Rossi et a déclaré :
« Les conditions étaient très difficiles, elles l'ont été tout le week-end. Je n'avais jamais eu aussi chaud ici en Malaisie. Je n'étais pas au meilleur de ma forme parce que l'entraînement a été plus léger ces dernières semaines. Je me sentais quand même bien sur ma moto et elle avait une bonne motricité. »
« Les premiers virages ont été très excitants et j'ai été fort sur tout le premier tour. Valentino était très performant et je n'ai ensuite pas pu rester avec eux. Il a fait un excellent travail et je perdais un peu avec le pneu dur. Nous avons aussi eu un problème avec le réservoir, quelque chose s'est détâché et je glissais vers l'avant au freinage. »
Rossi compte dans la lutte pour le titre de vice-Champion 12 points d'avance sur Lorenzo et 45 sur Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) suite au deuxième abandon consécutif de ce dernier.
Jorge Lorenzo combatted the heat while Valentino Rossi turned a tough start to the weekend around at the Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
Starting from sixth on the grid Rossi made an excellent start, getting up into second place on the second lap. Rossi closely followed his Movistar Yamaha MotoGP teammate Lorenzo until the midrace stage.
Lap ten saw Rossi pass Lorenzo, bringing Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) through with him. A mistake at Turn 15 on the next lap saw Marquez slip past the Italian. Lorenzo said later he found the conditions difficult having adopted a lighter training schedule during the flyaways.
Rossi finished 2.445s second behind Marquez and over one second ahead of Lorenzo, who came strong on the final lap with his harder tyre option.
With Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) crashing out of the race the battle for second in the championship is now between the two Yamaha riders as the paddock heads to Valencia for the final round of 2014.
"I’m very happy for this second place. It’s really important, we struggled during the weekend with the setting but this morning we found a good setting. I was never strong in practice, I couldn’t push at 100%. It was a long time since my last podium here, maybe 2010. I love this track so it’s great to return," reflected Rossi.
He added, "I battled Jorge at the start and that was my target as we’re fighting for second in the championship. After that I saw that I had a strong pace and I was battling with Marquez for the victory, the tyres let go towards the end and Marquez had something more. I had to slow while he was able to keep the same rhythm, still a great second place. Double the podiums and victories of last year has been a great season."
Lorenzo reflected, "Well, they were really difficult conditions, all weekend the conditions have been tough. It was the hottest race I’ve ever had here at Malaysia. I wasn’t the fittest as we trained a little soft. I felt strong physically and the bike was good with traction. My fitness (stamina) was not great as I haven’t trained hard these three weeks outside of Europe," explained Lorenzo.
He continued, "The first corners were really exciting and I was brave throughout the opening lap. Valentino was so strong this weekend and I couldn’t stay with them. He did a great job and I was losing a bit on the harder tyre. We had some problems with the fuel tank as the support broke and I was sliding forward under braking."
