Scaglietti's original 250 GTO wireframe heads to auction

On 21 March, an intricate wireframe around which Scaglietti perfected the legendary lines of the Ferrari 250 GTO will be sold at auction in Lyon…
The jig – bought directly from Ferrari by its current owner in the 1980s – is one of the two produced in period by Scaglietti, used as a reference point for the GTO’s sumptuous aluminium bodywork. With the other being retained by Ferrari, and currently on show in the Modena museum, it represents a unique opportunity to acquire what is possibly the ultimate collectable for the high-end Ferrari enthusiast. Of course, it could be used as a template for a faithful recreation, but considering its beauty – and the estimate of €100,000 to €150,000 – it’s more likely to be employed as a work of art in its own right. Scaglietti’s Ferrari 250 GTO wireframe will be sold atAguttes’ auction in Lyon on 21 March.

Massimo Meregalli and Livio Suppo discuss the competitiveness of the Ducati GP15, ahead of the start of the 2015 MotoGP™ Championship.
After the Ducati Team dominated the final preseason test in Qatar, Movistar Yamaha Team Director Massimo Meregalli believes that the new Desmosedici will be at the forefront come the start of the season: “They impressed everybody because they have been fast, but also very consistent, for me they have done a really good job.”
With Jorge Lorenzo on the leading Yamaha finishing over half a second behind Dovizioso’s Ducati in the overall standings after the final preseason test, Meregalli believes that the resurgence of the Italian Manufacturer could lead to an exciting 2015 season: “Yesterday they were 10 riders separated by less than one second, for me in terms of a spectacle, we could see a nice championship this year.”
Livio Suppo, Repsol Honda Team Principal, thinks that, “The GP15 seems to work really well.” He went on to say that he thinks it is good for the championship to have Ducati back battling at the front, and believes that they wont be the only manufacturer to challenge the recent domination of Yamaha and Honda. The Italian said: “Suzuki are not doing too bad as well, so the rules that allow the teams that were a little bit behind to have an advantage seem to be working well.”
Marc Marquez on the factory Honda was the only rider to really offer any challenge to the Factory Ducati team, as he finished the test just 0.184s off the pace in 2nd place. Suppo finished by saying that having these teams competing at the sharp end again was, “Good for the sport,” although he feels it is “too early to say yet,” if Ducati can mount a serious title challenge.

Icon 1000 Suzuki "New Jack" Katana Custom

    New Jacket Video
The 1982 Suzuki Katana was a machine before her time; a Nippon-Saxon gamble on starship styling to jumpstart Suzuki’s dour offerings. Thirty years on, the Katana is the darling of the ball, but in the early eighties few were interested in dancing with the silver dame. The Katana, in stock form, is an acquired taste. Her diminutive fairings, rectangular headlight, awkward tank, and sofa’esque seat are a divisive mix. Not a superbike, nor a sport bike, she remains an obtuse side note in the performance bike narrative.

NEW JACK is ICON 1000’s interpretation of what could have been; one possible future. Built within the confines of our Portland based headquarters, New Jack uses a host of late model componentry to bring the Kat into fighting trim. A 1200cc motor, transplanted from a Suzuki Bandit, provides simple yet effective horsepower. As is often the case, big motors expose big structural problems. Therefore, the New Jack’s frame was triangulated with 1/4” plate to keep the wobbly’s at bay. Modern swingarm, superbike suspension, and a full rework of brakes help keep the rest of the ride five by five.
