Moto GP : Rossi règne à nouveau sur Misano / Rossi claims first win of 2014 as Marquez crashes

Valentino Rossi a renoué avec la victoire en s’imposant en solitaire chez lui au Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, devant son coéquipier Jorge Lorenzo et Dani Pedrosa. Tombé en début de course, Marc Márquez a fini quinzième.

Vainqueur pour la première fois à Misano depuis 2009, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) a remporté une sensationnelle victoire au Grand Prix TIM de Saint-Marin et de la Riviera di Rimini, sa première de l’année, et est le premier pilote de l’histoire du Championnat du Monde à dépasser un total de 5000 points sur l’ensemble de sa carrière.

L’Italien a commencé par doubler son coéquipier Jorge Lorenzo, auteur de la pole position, pour mener dès le début de la course et a ensuite répondu aux attaques de Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) alors que Lorenzo, seul pilote à avoir choisi le pneu avant dur, recalait en troisième position. 

La chute de Márquez dans le dixième tour, alors que le Champion du Monde en titre était lancé à la poursuite de Rossi, a été le tournant de la course et a permis à Rossi de se retrouver seul en tête avec deux secondes d’avance sur Lorenzo. L’Italien a maintenu un rythme suffisamment élevé pour entretenir son avance et a franchi la ligne d’arrivée 1.578s avant Lorenzo tandis que Márquez, reparti vingtième après sa chute, est remonté jusqu’à la quinzième place.

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) a pris la troisième place suite à un long duel avec Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) tandis que Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) renforçait la présence italienne dans le Top 5 en finissant à six secondes de son compatriote.

Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Bradley Smith, Álvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini) et Yonny Hernández (Energy T.I. Pramac Racing) complétaient le Top 10 à l’arrivée. 

Karel Abraham (Cardio AB Motoracing) était le premier pilote de la catégorie Open suite à l’abandon d’Aleix Espargaró (NGM Forward Racing) et devançait Hiroshi Aoyama (Drive M7 Aspar), Scott Redding (GO&FUN Honda Gresini) ainsi que le pilote local Alex de Angelis (NGM Forward Racing). 

Mike di Meglio (Avintia Blusens) est tombé dans le premier tour et s’est fracturé les 4e et 5e métacarpien de la main gauche. L’ancien Champion du Monde 125cc devra vraisemblablement être opéré à son retour en France.

Malgré sa chute, Márquez, vainqueur à onze reprises en treize courses cette année, conserve respectivement 74, 75 et 112 points d’avance sur Pedrosa, Rossi et Lorenzo.

The home crowd went wild at Misano on Sunday as Valentino Rossi took his first victory since Assen last year, with Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa also on the podium, whilst Marc Marquez finished 15^th after a crash.

Nine time World Champion Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) took the lead in the early laps after getting in front of pole man Lorenzo and then asserting his authority in an early battle with Marquez. On the 10th lap Marquez went down at Rio corner when in second place and whilst he restarted his RC213V he could not achieve more than a solitary point.

Rossi kept the hammer down at the front to eventually win by 1.578s and reach the milestone of 5000 Grand Prix points in style. It is the 107^th victory of Rossi’s remarkable career.

Lorenzo rode with determination to take another podium result and finished in second place for the fourth successive race.

Coming from fifth on the grid, Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) took his ninth podium finish of the season in third place, crossing the line 1.234s ahead of the hard working Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team).

It was another good ride for Dovizioso in front of the home crowd as he got the Ducati across the finish line 5.5s behind winner Rossi. Likewise, Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) impressed in fifth place with another solid result.

Rookie Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech3) rode well again to secure sixth place, 4.1s ahead of his teammate Bradley Smith.

Alvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini), Cal Crutchlow (Ducati Team) and Yonny Hernandez (Energy T.I. Pramac Racing) completed the top ten.

Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) was an early crasher, as was Danilo Petrucci (Octo IodaRacing Team). Di Meglio suffered a displaced fracture of the fourth and fifth metacarpus of his left hand and will require surgery. Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP) also fell out of the top ten. Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) crashed on the final lap. All the riders other than Di Meglio were uninjured.
