Moto GP , Márquez : « Tourner en 1’58 à Sepang a été très spécial »

Le Champion du Monde MotoGP™ a commencé l’année en dominant les premiers essais officiels en Malaisie.

Marc Márquez se prépare à défendre son titre de Champion du Monde MotoGP™ pour une deuxième année consécutive après avoir été sacré en 2013 comme en 2014, lors de ses deux premières saisons en catégorie reine. A l’issue de trois intenses journées de travail à Sepang, le pilote du team Repsol Honda est reparti du premier Test Officiel de l’année avec le meilleur temps mais aussi un nouveau record absolu pour le circuit malaisien.

Comment s’est-passée ta première simulation de course de l’année ?

« La vérité est que ça s’est très bien passé. J’avais choisi de le faire quand les températures étaient les plus élevées, à 14h30, parce que c’était à ce moment-là que les conditions étaient les plus proches de celles du Grand Prix. Il est compliqué de faire des comparaisons avec les autres pilotes parce que nous avions tous choisi un moment différent mais ça s’est très bien passé. Nous avons pu enregistrer beaucoup de données pour les ingénieurs de Honda et essayer une cartographie moteur qui m’a aidé à comprendre beaucoup de choses. Faire une simulation de course tout seul est un peu ennuyant par rapport à une course, c’est dur mais on ne roule pas à la limite. Nous allons continuer à essayer d’améliorer la nouvelle moto parce que nous pensons qu’il y a encore des progrès à faire mais nous sommes très contents de la base que nous avons et je pense que nous avons le potentiel pour faire une autre bonne année. »

Ton chrono du vendredi est un nouveau record pour Sepang. As-tu trouvé un raccourci en piste ?

« J’ai juste fait un très bon tour. Ça a été un moment spécial quand je me suis rendu compte que j’avais tourné en 1’58. Ce n’était pas un tour parfait, je ne pense pas que ça existe, et il me restait un autre pneu neuf pour une autre sortie. Mais après avoir vu le chrono, je ne voulais plus repartir parce qu’on ne gagne pas plus d’information en essayant d’aller vite lors ces tests. »

Tu avais manqué le deuxième test l’an dernier, pour cause de blessure. Cette fois-ci tu espères sûrement arriver à la première course avec plus de sérénité…

« Oui, c’est certain. L’an dernier, j’avais bien terminé le premier test et tout semblait parfait, comme cette année. Mais on ne sait jamais, on peut se blesser à n’importe quel moment et mon objectif va donc rester le même. Je vais continuer à m’entraîner et essayer d’être encore mieux préparé pour le deuxième test. »

La présentation du team a eu lieu en Indonésie cette année. Comment a été l’accueil des fans de là-bas ?

« J’avais déjà visité la région plusieurs fois, l’Indonésie comme la Thaïlande, et dès la première fois j’avais été surpris par l’engouement que les gens ont pour le MotoGP là-bas. Vous ne pouvez pas vous imaginer le nombre de gens qui adorent le MotoGP, qui soutiennent les pilotes et qui vivent pour les courses moto. Je pense que c’est un pays qui mérite un circuit. »

Etais-tu fatigué après ce premier test ?

« Les trois premières journées d’essais de l’année sont toujours les plus dures mais je me sens vraiment bien. J’ai bien tenu la simulation de course physiquement. J’ai noté quelques points où il me manquait quelque chose en termes de condition physique mais nous allons travailler pour résoudre ça. »

Moto GP , Lorenzo : « Il me reste encore un cap à franchir en tant que pilote » / ‘I hope to take one big final step forward as a rider’

Dans une longue interview accordée à ‘ICON’, supplément du quotidien espagnol El País, Jorge Lorenzo a parlé de sa philosophie en tant que pilote et a donné un aperçu de sa personnalité en dehors des circuits.

Le Champion du Monde MotoGP™ 2010 et 2012 participera à son 200ème Grand Prix ce week-end à Jerez et fêtera aussi ses 27 ans dimanche au Grand Prix bwin d'Espagne.

Lorenzo sera le plus jeune pilote à atteindre les 200 Grands Prix et s’est avant ça confié à ICON pour discuter de sa carrière mais aussi de bien d’autres sujets.

Après 199 courses en Grand Prix, le Majorquin a affirmé que sa meilleure course demeurait celle de Phillip Island de 2007, en 250cc. « Ce jour-là, j’avais l’impression d’avoir atteint la perfection, » a commenté Lorenzo. « Pas la perfection, parce que c’est impossible, mais j’étais à mon meilleur niveau. Je n’aurais pas pu être mieux sur ma moto. Je distançais tout le monde de deux secondes par tour et tout semblait si facile. Lors des courses qui ont suivi, j’ai réalisé que ce n’était pas si facile et qu’on a rarement un tel sentiment. »

Le pilote du team Movistar Yamaha MotoGP a aussi parlé de ses qualités et de ses défauts en tant qu’homme : « Très jeune, j’avais déjà les idées claires. J’ai une forte personnalité, j’ai toujours été comme ça. J’ai essayé de m’adoucir pour que les gens ne pensent pas que je sois agressif ou arrogant. »

Lorenzo wins, title battle heads to Valencia / Vainqueur au Motegi, Lorenzo prolonge le suspense

Providing a truly unpredictable end to the late-season triple-header, the Motegi weekend was very much shaken up by inclement weather conditions; this led to the cancellation of all track action on Friday as well as heavy modifications to the Saturday agenda. Ironically, Sunday’s race took place under clear blue skies in Japan.

From his fourth pole position of the year, it would be a lights-to-flag victory for Lorenzo to move one win ahead of Marquez in the 2013 season. Teammate Valentino Rossi looked to be providing a buffer between the current title holder and the pair of factory Hondas, but made two mistakes at Turn 11 and fell back down the order.

Lorenzo would come under severe pressure from Marquez at the mid-way point of the race, with Pedrosa in hot pursuit. However, the Mallorcan was spared some breathing space as Marquez made mistakes at both Turn 11 and Turn 1. The 20-year-old would never be as close to Lorenzo again, eventually ending the day 3.1 seconds in arrears.

Pedrosa’s third place marked his 12^th podium finish of the season, but the Sabadell rider was unable to complete a hat-trick of Motegi victories as his chances for the 2013 world title officially evaporated. Alvaro Bautista and Stefan Bradl rounded out the top five, with the GO&FUN Honda Gresini rider having slipstreamed his way past the LCR Honda MotoGP bike at the start of the eighth lap. Rossi fought back to sixth place after running as low as 11^th, while Cal Crutchlow got the better of impressive Monster Yamaha Tech3 teammate Bradley Smith in seventh and eighth spots.

Ducati Team completed the top ten with Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso, while 11^th place was taken by wildcard Katsuyuki Nakasuga for Yamaha YSP Racing Team. In 12^th was lead CRT rider Colin Edwards (NGM Mobile Forward Racing), with Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaro having become the third of three retirements courtesy of a high-speed accident from which he escaped unharmed. Lukas Pesek (Came IodaRacing Project) was first to retire, while Cardion AB Motoracing’s Luca Scassa pulled into the pit lane with a loose right foot peg.

Sunday’s result - marking the 200^th premier class race victory for Yamaha - sees Lorenzo move to within 13 points of Marquez with just the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana remaining. This signals the first final-race MotoGP™ title-decider for seven years; in 2006 it was also a duel between the Honda and Yamaha factory teams, with the crown won by Nicky Hayden as the American picked up a maiden title from then reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi

Vainqueur à Phillip Island le week-end dernier, où Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) avait été disqualifié, Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing) poursuit sa contre-offensive dans la lutte pour le titre MotoGP™ 2013 et est revenu à treize points du jeune Catalan en s’imposant devant lui dimanche au Twin Ring Motegi, sur les terres de Honda, où il avait déjà gagné une première fois avec Yamaha en 2009 et signait cette fois-ci la 200ème victoire dans la catégorie reine du constructeur aux trois diapasons.

Parti en pole sur piste sèche suite à des qualifications qui s’étaient déroulées sur piste mouillée, le Champion du Monde MotoGP™ a mené la course de bout en bout et remportait sa septième victoire de la saison, soit une de plus que Márquez.

Doublés par Valentino Rossi (Yamaha Factory Racing) au départ, Márquez et son coéquipier Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) se sont lancés à la poursuite de Lorenzo suite à une erreur de l’Italien, qui manquait un freinage dans le deuxième tour. Márquez est parvenu à se mettre dans la roue de Lorenzo après le cap de la mi-course mais n’a jamais pu prendre le dessus sur le Majorquin et a dû se contenter de la seconde place tandis que Pedrosa s’était fait distancer en fin d’épreuve et prenait une troisième place qui sonnait le glas de sa candidature au titre 2013.

Auteur d’une grosse erreur dans le deuxième tour alors qu’il pouvait s’avérer d’une grande aide pour son coéquipier, Rossi a commis une deuxième faute dans le tour suivant et s’est retrouvé en onzième position. Le nonuple Champion du Monde a ensuite remonté pour finir à la sixième place, derrière Álvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini) et Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda), qui terminaient à une vingtaine de secondes du podium.

Battu par Rossi, Cal Crutchlow (Monster Yamaha Tech3) était septième à l'arrivée, devant son coéquipier Bradley Smith, Nicky Hayden (Ducati), qui s’était qualifié en première ligne sous la pluie, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) et Katsuyuki Nakasuga, engagé en Wild Card par Yamaha YSP Racing Team.

Colin Edwards (NMG Mobile Forward Racing) était le premier pilote CRT à l’arrivée, devant Randy de Puniet (Power Electronics), suite à la chute d’Aleix Espargaró dans le douzième tour. 

Côte à côte sur le podium du Grand Prix AirAsia du Japon, Márquez et Lorenzo se retrouveront à Valence dans deux semaines pour une dernière manche décisive, lorsque de laquelle un podium garantirait à Márquez de devenir le plus jeune Champion du Monde de l’histoire de la catégorie reine. C'est la première fois depuis 2006 et le sacre de Nicky Hayden que le titre MotoGP™ se décide sur la dernière manche de la saison.

Moto GP : Jorge Lorenzo disappointed with Brno result, Rossi 'we won't give up'

It was a highly disappointed Jorge Lorenzo who finished third at Brno. For the second consecutive race the Yamaha rider had a lightning start trying to break away, only to be hunted down by both Repsol Honda riders, Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa.

Lorenzo is still third in the standings but with a bigger disadvantage then before, as he is now 44 points from the phenomenal Marc Marquez, who is clearly looking to take this year’s championship, however Lorenzo hasn’t lost hope, even if the numbers are more truthful, but he did say that, “The championship is not lost yet, but it’s very difficult now.”

If we are to believe the Yamaha riders, the M1s are no longer the perfectly balanced machine that they once were when they forsake top speed for impressive corner speed, braking and handling, as Honda has not only caught up, but they have surpassed them, and the introduction of the seamless transmission at Misano may not be enough to wrestle back some important points.

Asked if he regrets not going to Honda, Yamaha rider said no and he added, “Yamaha is an unbelievable factory that is trying to reduce the gap to Honda. They are working 24 hours a day and I believe in them. I have all my confidence in the engineers.”

Yamaha will be staying in Brno for another test tomorrow.

I am really disappointed because now I feel I am in the best shape of my career,” said Lorenzo. “I got a good start and the first lap I was very fast, but I cannot do much to defend against the Hondas. Anyway we had fun today, with the fight with Marc. I tried to stay with them to the end and most importantly I’m proud because I’m doing the best job I can do.”

During this morning’s warm-up practice it seemed that Valentino Rossi could actually contest for a podium, but the three front runners are always faster off the grid - especially in the first lap - than he is and getting bogged down with continuously bad qualifying positions isn’t helping the Italian, who still has problems braking.

Asked if anyone can stop Marquez, Rossi laughingly replied only if Marquez decides to change sport, and maybe go to Formula 1.

“Today was better than Indy, especially because my disadvantage to the top is half. I wanted to do better; we have to try to do better,” said Rossi. “The first three guys are impressive, very strong; I want to stay closer to them. Unfortunately I was ten seconds back, another fourth place but I want to be closer so we have to work. We tried to improve this type of setting in the last two races but it looks like it’s not fantastic. Also today I suffered a bit too much at the beginning of the race. We won’t give up and we will try next week to make a better job.”

Moto GP ; Stefan Bradl edges out Marquez in warm-up at Laguna Seca

It was sunny this morning at Laguna Seca for the 20 minute warm-up practice and the quickest rider of the session was polesitter Stefan Bradl. The German rider hammered out fast lap after fast lap, to take the top of the timesheets 1.21.743, and edging out Marc Marquez by a mere 0.008s.

Only a highly concentrated Jorge Lorenzo - who looks like he isn’t excluding a podium finish - was able to break the Honda hegemony, concentrating on his race pace and he finished less than one tenth of a second from Bradl and Marquez.

Alvaro Bautista who will be taking off in third on the starting grid, slid off track at turn 5. The Gresini rider was okay, but his Honda a lot less, as it slammed into the air fence, but his lap time before the crash allowed him to take fourth and just ahead of Valentino Rossi, and one tenth of a second faster than Cal Crutchlow who were all more than six tenths adrift.

Taking an impressive 7th was Bradley Smith, ahead of another impressive rider, Aleix Espargaro. The ART rider was faster than both Ducati factory riders Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden.

Dani Pedrosa didn’t force his pace as he was 11th and more than one second adrift.

Casey Stoner takes pole position at Phillip Island

Betting against Casey Stoner taking today’s pole position at Phillip Island would have been suicidal, and Stoner’s countrymen knew it as they showed up in record numbers at the track to see their champion take his fifth pole position of the season (his last was at Sachsenring) in his penultimate qualifying session before he permanently hangs up his lid.

The Australian was able to chip away on his morning’s record time to post another blistering lap in 1.29.623, but he also suffered a crash at turn 4 during mid session that sent a shiver down the backs of everyone thinking of his recovering ankle injury, but he picked up his spare bike to further to set his best time.

Joining Stoner on the front row will be Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa. Both riders were able to contain their gap to the suberb Stoner to less than a second, with Lorenzo putting his Yamaha M1 within half a second from the Repsol Honda rider. It was the first time this weekend that someone was able to cut that much into Stoner’s lap times, but a drizzle in the final minutes stopped all action.

Cal Crutchlow was fourth with Stefan Bradl splitting him from his team mate Andrea Dovizioso but all three were abundantly above a second. Valentino Rossi took eighth, but he was barely 0.006s ahead of a spectacular Randy de Puniet who put the the wheels of his ART machine - and the best qualifying for a CRT rider - ahead of Nicky Hayden who closed out the top ten and he was 2.058s from Stoner.

Kris McLaren replacing injured Yonny Hernandez in Avintia Blusens suffered a big highside at the MG corner and missed the 107% qualifying cut by 0.428s, but he’ll get a chance to race if he can cut the gap during tomorrow morning’s warm-up session.
