Le rêve américain continue pour Márquez / Marquez wins epic duel with Lorenzo

Márquez s’est imposé pour la cinquième année d’affilée à Indianapolis et pour la septième fois en sept courses MotoGP™ aux Etats-Unis.

           

Malgré une première moitié de saison compliquée, Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) continue d’établir de nouveaux records au long de sa troisième année en MotoGP™ et a étoffé un palmarès déjà exceptionnel aux Etats-Unis en s’imposant devant Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) au Grand Prix Red Bull d’Indianapolis. 

Qualifié en pole position pour la dixième manche de la saison 2015, le Champion du Monde en titre a suivi son compatriote durant la quasi-totalité de la course pour s’échapper avec lui et a sagement attendu d’être à trois tours du drapeau à damier pour attaquer et s’assurer une cinquième victoire consécutive à l’Indianapolis Motor Speedway, où il s’était imposé depuis la pole ces deux dernières années en MotoGP™ et avait aussi gagné en Moto2™ en 2011 et 2012. Márquez demeurait ainsi invaincu sur le territoire américain depuis 2011, n’ayant jamais manqué la première place aux Etats-Unis depuis son arrivée dans la catégorie reine, que ce soit à Austin, à Laguna Seca, qui ne figure plus au calendrier, ou à Indianapolis.

Vaincu au bout d’un duel titanesque après avoir mené durant 24 des 27 tours, Lorenzo affirmait dans le parc fermé sa satisfaction d’avoir réalisé une course quasi-parfaite, en ayant maintenu un rythme exceptionnel et avec au final un très faible déficit de rythme par rapport à Márquez, plus frais en fin de course après s’être contenté de suivre le Majorquin. Ce dernier se rapprochait néanmoins un peu plus de la première place du classement général, occupée par son coéquipier Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP). 

Huitième sur la grille de départ et visiblement en difficulté lors des deux premières journées, l’Italien n’a comme d’habitude pas manqué de se montrer compétitif pour la course et s’est battu en duel avec Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) pour la troisième place. Doublé par l’Espagnol à l’ouverture du dernier tour, Rossi a su répliquer pour s’assurer la troisième place et ainsi prolonger sa série de podiums avec un quatorzième Top 3 consécutif en comptant les quatre derniers de la saison 2014. Le nonuple Champion du Monde limitait ainsi les dégâts au classement général et conservait neuf points d’avance sur Lorenzo. 

Grâce à sa seconde victoire d’affilée après celle remportée en Allemagne avant la trêve estivale, Márquez remontait quant à lui à la troisième place du classement général, à 56 points de Rossi et avec dix longueurs d’avance sur Andrea Iannone (Ducati), qui finissait de nouveau en solitaire derrière les prétendants au podium, en cinquième position, à une quinzaine de secondes de Rossi et Pedrosa. 

Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) a nettement battu son coéquipier Pol Espargaró, qui a été confirmé chez Tech3 pour 2016, en finissant huit secondes devant lui, à la sixième place, tandis que Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda), Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), qui était hors du Top 12 dans le premier tour, et Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing) complétaient le Top 10 à l’arrivée. 

Jack Miller (CWM LCR Honda) est tombé en début de course alors qu’il était le pilote Open le mieux classé. La victoire Open est ainsi revenue à Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing), quinzième devant Nicky Hayden (Aspar MotoGP Team) et Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing). 

Stefan Bradl (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) a quant à lui fini sa première course sur la RS-GP à la vingtième place, loin derrière Álvaro Bautista (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) et Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team) et avec un rien d’avance sur Alex de Angelis (E-Motion IodaRacing Team) et Toni Elías, qui remplaçait Karel Abraham (AB Motoracing).

Le Championnat du Monde MotoGP™ 2015 continue la semaine prochaine, du 14 ay 16 août, à Brno pour le Grand Prix bwin de République Tchèque.

Marc Marquez maintains his incredible record on US soil to take victory at the Indianapolis GP after a race long battle with Jorge Lorenzo.

             

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez made it five wins in a row (2x Moto2™, 3x MotoGP™) at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway after an epic race long duel with Jorge Lorenzo (+0.688s) on the Movistar Yamaha. Championship leader Valentino Rossi (+5.278s) maintained his 100% podium record this season to finish in third, and remain on top of the standings by nine points.

After the Moto3™ and Moto2™ races were declared wet earlier in the day, conditions had improved by the time the MotoGP™ riders took to the grid and luckily, apart from a few spots of rain, it remained dry throughout the race. It was Lorenzo who would lead into the first corner from pole man Marquez, and it wouldn’t take long for these two to break away at the front of the field, opening up a second gap by the end of lap 8. The 68,000 fans present at the ‘Brickyard’ then bore witness to some incredible riding between the two Spaniards, as lap after lap Marquez ominously stalked Lorenzo.

The reigning MotoGP™ World Champion Marquez bided his time, sitting behind Lorenzo and studying his strengths and weaknesses before finally making his move with just three laps to go into turn 1. Lorenzo had no response and Marquez pulled the pin to cross the line over half a second ahead of his compatriot, taking Honda’s 700th GP victory in the process. It was also the 9th race in a row that Marquez has won on US Soil and the first time he has achieved back-to-back victories this season.

Rossi started from 8th on the grid but after a sensational opening lap he was up into fourth and hunting down Pedrosa for the final podium spot. The Italian was made to rue his poor Qualifying performance, as while he could match the pace of Marquez and Lorenzo at the front, he could not make any meaningful dent in the gap to the leaders. Rossi finally managed to overtake Pedrosa into turn 1 on lap 18, although the diminutive Spaniard was having none of it and after recovering he managed to re-take third, setting up a dramatic last lap showdown. On the last lap Pedrosa overtook Rossi into turn 1, but ‘The Doctor’ fought back immediately and made it stick, managing to hold on to cross the line 0.181s ahead of Pedrosa (+6.147s).

Ducati Team’s Andrea Iannone (+21.528s) was a further 15 seconds back in fifth as he managed to hold off a hard-charging Bradley Smith (+21.751s) on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 towards the end of the race. The Italian, celebrating his 26th Birthday, eventually crossed the line just 0.223s ahead of the Brit.

Smith, starting from 9th on the grid, once again enjoyed a brilliant start and found himself as high as 5th after the first few corners. Unfortunately he would run wide at turn 10 on the first lap and be forced to fight his way back through the field. He had to settle for sixth. His teammate Pol Espargaro was a further 8.627s further back in seventh.

CWM LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow had an eventful race, dropping down to 11th after almost clipping the back of Smith at the start of the race. He had to fight his way back into the top ten, before eventually crossing the line in eighth.

Andrea Dovizioso also ran wide on the first lap (turn 2) first lap and found himself down in very last place. The Italian recovered brilliantly and fought back to finish in ninth ahead of the Factory Octo Pramac Racing Ducati of Danilo Petrucci, who completed the top ten.

The Team Suzuki Ecstar GSX-RR’s of Maverick Viñales and Aleix Espargaro were 11th and 14th respectively, with Scott Redding on the EG 0,0 Marc VDS Honda finishing in 13th.

Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera took the Open class victory in 15th ahead of local Hero Nicky Hayden (Aspar MotoGP Team) in 16th and his teammate Eugene Laverty in 19th.

Stefan Bradl finished in 20th on his debut for the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini while CWM LCR Honda’s Jack Miller was the only rider to crash out of the race as he fell foul of turn 6 on lap 9.

All of this means that Rossi (195pts) remains on top of the MotoGP™ World Championship standings, although his lead over second placed Jorge Lorenzo (+186pts) has been cut to just 9 points, with Marquez (139pts) a further 56 points back in third.

MotoGP ; Márquez prend la pole position à Indianapolis / Marquez makes it three out of three

Marc Márquez sera en pole position pour viser une cinquième victoire d’affilée à l’Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

           

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) n’aura pas laissé le suspense durer en qualifications et s’est installé en pole provisoire dès son premier run avant d’ensuite améliorer son meilleur temps pour se confirmer en pole position, sa cinquième cette année et sa troisième consécutive à Indianapolis, où il avait gagné ces deux dernières années en MotoGP™ mais aussi les deux années d’avant en Moto2™.

Invaincu aux Etats-Unis depuis 2012, le Champion en titre partira avec l’avantage de pole pour essayer de remporter une septième victoire consécutive sur le sol américain et a fini les qualifications avec un chrono de 1’31.884, à un peu plus de deux dixièmes du record du circuit qu’il avait établi l’an dernier. 

Son coéquipier Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) et Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) l’accompagneront en première ligne après avoir respectivement terminé à 0.171s et 0.302s de la pole. Premier pilote à sortir de la pit-lane, Lorenzo, dernier pilote ne courant pas sur Honda à avoir gagné à Indy (2009), avait opté pour une stratégie à trois tentatives mais n’a pas pu se montrer aussi rapide que ses concurrents, qui tenteront d’offrir au HRC une sixième victoire consécutive au Brickyard.

                   

Délogé de la première ligne par Lorenzo, Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda) partira finalement en tête de la deuxième, devant Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing), auteur du meilleur temps en Q1 premier pilote Ducati sur la grille, et Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3).

Dixième sur le classement combiné de vendredi, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) demeurait à plus d’une demi-seconde de la première place et s’est qualifié entre Andrea Iannone (Ducati) et Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) sur la troisième ligne. 

                  

Deuxième de la Q1 derrière Petrucci, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) n’a pas pu faire mieux que dixième en Q1, devant Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3), qui est tombé le vendredi comme le samedi, et Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar), douzième à 0.930s de Márquez.

Du côté de la catégorie Open, Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing) conservait l’avantage pris vendredi et s’installait à la quatorzième position sur la grille de départ, derrière Scott Redding (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS). 

                   

Stefan Bradl (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini), qui fait ses débuts sur la RS-GP ce week-end, a devancé son nouveau coéquipier Álvaro Bautista pour prendre la dix-huitième position. 

Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) a de son côté chuté dans le dernier virage du tracé américain en Q1 et partira de la 22e position, devant Toni Elías, qui remplace Karel Abraham (AB Motoracing) ce week-end.

Marc Marquez makes it three pole positions in a row at the Indianapolis Speedway as his teammate Dani Pedrosa completes a Honda 1-2.

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez continued his dominance of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to make it three pole positions in a row at the legendary US circuit. The reigning MotoGP Champion has own the last two races at the circuit from pole position, and signs are ominous that he might do the same this weekend after he was the only rider to break the 1’32 barrier during Q2. The day got even better for Repsol Honda as Dani Pedrosa (+0.171s) managed to finish second fastest and secure a 1-2 on the grid for the Factory Team.

Marquez set a 1’31.884 on his just his second flying lap during the session in near perfect conditions as the sun broke through the clouds and the track temperature reached 40ºC at the ‘Brickyard’. Try as they might, no one else had an answer to the Spaniard’s pace in a frantic end to the session, and it was only Pedrosa who managed to get within three-tenths of the reigning MotoGP™ World Champion.

                

Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo (+0.302s) will start from the back of the front row, as the man second in the MotoGP™ title battle looks to close the 13-point gap in the standings to his teammate Valentino Rossi. Cal Crutchlow (+0.324s) was the leading Satellite rider and will start from the head of the second row in fourth on the CWM LCR Honda.

The big surprise of the session was the pace of Octo Pramac Racing’s Danilo Petrucci (+0.359s), who finished fastest in Q1 and managed to carry that pace into Q2 to start from fifth on the grid as the fastest Ducati. Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith (+0.385s), who had been second fastest overall in practice, will start the race from sixth ahead of the Factory GP15 of Andrea Iannone in seventh.

                  

Current championship leader Valentino Rossi was third on the timesheets with 7 mins to go, but was knocked down to 8th by the end of the session and will have to work hard to try and preserve his advantage in the championship standings on Sunday. The  Italian won’t be panicking just yet though as two of his race win this season (Qatar and Argentina) have both come from 8th on the grid.

Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Maverick Viñales completes the third row in ninth while Andrea Dovizioso on the second GP15 will start from tenth on the grid, with the Italian having to fight his way through Q2 after finishing 11th on the combined timesheets after practice.

Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and his brother Aleix (Team Suzuki Ecstar) make up the rest of the fourth row in 11th and 12th respectively, with less than a second separating the top 12 riders. To give you an indication how close it was, Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) only just missed out on making it through to Q2 by 0.079s and will start from 13th.

                 

Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera was the leading Open class rider in 14th, with Australian Jack Miller (CWM LCR Honda) in 16th. Stefan Bradl (17th) out qualified his teammate Alvaro Bautista (18th) on his debut for Aprilia Racing Team Gresini while the Aspar MotoGP Team duo of Eugene Laverty and Nicky Hayden will start from 19th and 20th on the grid respectively.

Lorenzo tient tête à Márquez à Indianapolis / Lorenzo duels with Marquez on opening day

                        

Déjà premier le matin, Lorenzo a terminé la première journée du Grand Prix Red Bull d’Indianapolis juste devant Márquez.

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) a conservé la première position sur le classement des essais libres vendredi après-midi à Indianapolis, où il a devancé Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) de quelques millièmes de seconde à chacune des deux séances de la journée. 

Le Majorquin, qui avait fini deuxième derrière Márquez à Indianapolis l’an dernier, a signé le meilleur chrono de la journée l’après-midi, en 1’32.860, et a été trois millièmes de seconde plus rapide que Márquez, qui demeure invaincu aux Etats-Unis depuis son arrivée en MotoGP™ et pourrait enfin avoir trouvé un adversaire à sa hauteur en territoire américain. 
                         

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) et son coéquipier Andrea Iannone ont respectivement pris les troisième et quatrième positions, à trois dixièmes des deux leaders et juste devant Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda).

Confirmé chez Monster Yamaha Tech3 pour 2016 en début de journée, Pol Espargaró a lourdement chuté en highside dans le virage 13 et est resté à terre quelques instants avant de finalement se relever. L’Espagnol concluait la journée en sixième position, à une demi-seconde du temps de référence, devant Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) et son coéquipier Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3), avec qui il avait remporté les 8 Heures de Suzuka durant la trêve estivale. 

Dixième à 0.672s de Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) commence son week-end bien loin de ses objectifs mais continuera à travailler samedi afin de se montrer plus compétitif et de s’assurer les moyens de défendre sa position de leader du classement général ainsi que ses treize points d’avance sur Lorenzo.

Premier pilote Open, Héctor Barberá (Avintia Blusens) a terminé en quatorzième position, devant Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar), Nicky Hayden (Aspar MotoGP Team) et Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Blusens), qui avait signé le neuvième temps le matin. 

Stefan Bradl a conclu sa toute première journée avec l’Aprilia Racing Team Gresini en vingtième position, en ayant été 0.4s plus rapide que son nouveau coéquipier Álvaro Bautista. 
                            

Toni Elías, exceptionnellement de retour en tant que remplaçant de Karel Abraham chez AB Motoracing), s’est classé dernier et poursuivra son travail de réadaptation au MotoGP™ samedi à 9h55, heure locale (soit 15h55 en France métropolitaine), lors de la troisième séance d’essais.

Jorge Lorenzo came out on top on the first day of practice at the Indianapolis GP after a frenetic battle with Marc Marquez.

The MotoGP™ World Championship returned from its summer break to provide copious amounts of entertainment on the first day of practice at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. It was Jorge Lorenzo who took advantage of the blue skies and almost ideal conditions (47ºC Track Temp) to top both Free Practice sessions ahead of Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez. FP2 saw grip levels improved from the morning session as riders bedded in the track, and Lorenzo left it until his very last lap to set a 1’32.860.

Marquez was just three thousandths of a second further back in second overall and was the only other rider to break the 1’33 barrier, as he looks to make it 3 MotoGP™ wins in a row at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso (+0.295s) completed the provisional front row ahead of his teammate Andrea Iannone (0.306s) in fourth, as they both seemed to benefit from a private test at Misano during the summer break.
                       

CWM LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow (+0.326s) improved by over a second throughout the day to finish as the leading Satellite rider in fifth, ahead of Pol Espargaro (+502s) on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 M1 who suffered a nasty looking highside at the end of FP2 at turn 13.

Dani Pedrosa (+0.517s) on the second Repsol Honda ended the day in seventh, while Scott Redding (+0.583s) continued to show signs of improvement on the EG 0,0 Marc VDS Honda to finish in eighth. Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) set a time good enough for ninth overall, while the current Championship leader Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) found himself down in tenth on the combined timesheets, 0.672s behind his teammate Lorenzo.

Hayden’s teammate Eugene Laverty managed to end the day in 19th, with Stefan Bradl making his debut on the Factory Aprilia Racing Team Gresini RS-GP in 20th, 0.131s ahead of his teammate Alvaro Bautista.  Tony Elias, who is filling in for the injured Karel Abraham in the AB Motoracing team, finished the day in 23rd.
