Zarco en pole pour la cinquième fois de l’année à Brno / Zarco claims 5th pole of the season

Le Français a battu les Espagnols Tito Rabat et Álex Rins d’un quart de seconde en qualifications.

               

Seulement huitième de la troisième séance d’essais libres samedi matin en République Tchèque, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a très vite rattrapé sa journée en qualifications et a battu le record du circuit de Brno dès son cinquième tour, avec un chrono de 2’01.614. 

Le Français, leader de la catégorie avec 71 points d’avance, n’a ensuite pas été inquiété par Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) et Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40), qui, malgré leurs efforts, n’ont pu se rapprocher qu’à un quart de seconde de la pole position et ont respectivement pris les seconde et troisième positions, séparés de seulement 0.028s. 

                

À l’instar de Zarco, Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) et Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) ont signé leurs meilleurs tours respectifs dès le début de la séance et ont terminé aux quatrième et cinquième places, devant Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten), sixième à 0.828s de Zarco. 

Septième, le Champion du Monde Moto3™ 2014 Álex Márquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) réalisait sa meilleure qualification depuis son arrivée dans la catégorie Moto2™ et finissait devant Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing), Axel Pons (AGR Team) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team).

              

Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) devra se contenter d’un départ en 13e position après une défaillance de sa suspension arrière. 

Plutôt bien parti depuis le début du week-end, Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2) a chuté en début de séance et sera vingtième sur la grille de départ, derrière Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) et devant Marcel Schrötter (Tech3 Racing).

Johann Zarco makes it five pole positions this season as he finishes on top of the timesheets ahead of Tito Rabat and Alex Rins.

          

Ajo Motorsports Johann Zarco secured his fifth pole position of the season in ideal conditions at the bwin Grand Prix Ceské Republiky. The Frenchman who currently enjoys a 71-point lead in the Moto2™ World Championship set a 2’01.614 to break Tito Rabat’s 2014 pole record (2’01.911) in the process.

               

Zarco finished 0.259s ahead of Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS’s Rabat, with the Spaniard missing out on pole after leading the way in FP3 earlier. Rabat also went under his pole record from last year as the top four riders all set times under the 2’02 barrier.

Indianapolis race winner, Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins (+0.287s), completes the front row. Rins was just 0.028s off the pace of Rabat and it should be an incredible battle between these three on Sunday.

Dynavolt Intact GP’s Sandro Cortese (+0.376s) will start from the front of the second row in fourth as he matched his best qualifying performance of the season (Qatar).  Derendinger Racing Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi (+0.464s) was fifth fastest, ahead of his compatriot Dominique Aegerter (+0.828s) on the Technomag Racing Interwetten Kalex.

Reigning Moto3™ World Champion Alex Marquez (Paginas Amarillas HP40) put in his best qualifying performance of the season and will start from seventh.

Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team), Axel Pons (AGR Team) and his teammate Jonas Folger complete the top ten with the returning Forward Racing’s Lorenzo Baldassari and Simone Corsi in 11th and 12th respectively.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes will be forced to start the race from 13th, his worst qualifying performance of the season, after his suspension collapsed and he was forced to miss the last ten minutes of the session.

Qui pour arrêter Zarco en République Tchèque ?

Le Français a continué à consolider son statut de leader du Moto2™ en finissant deuxième des deux épreuves précédant celle de Brno.

          

Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40) s’est offert une superbe première victoire en Moto2™ dimanche dernier au Grand Prix Red Bull d’Indianapolis, après l’une des courses les plus disputées de la saison. Enfin au sommet du podium après avoir affiché un excellent potentiel sur la première moitié de sa première saison dans la catégorie, le Barcelonais retrouve ce week-end en République Tchèque un circuit où il avait malheureusement fêté la victoire un tour trop tôt et avait ensuite fini neuvième l'an dernier. Sa victoire à Indianapolis lui a permis de reprendre la seconde place du classement général au Champion en titre Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS), avec trois points de plus que son compatriote. 

Battu par Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) en Allemagne puis par Rins à Indy, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a néanmoins prolongé une série qui comprend maintenant neuf podiums consécutifs et qui lui a permis de continuer à creuser l’écart en tête du classement général. Suite à une course splendide à Indianapolis, où il a répondu présent au bon moment au bout d’un week-end compliqué, le Français mène le Championnat du Monde Moto2™ avec 71 points d’avance et tentera d’à nouveau se battre pour la victoire ce week-end à Brno, où il avait fini deuxième en 2011 lorsqu’il se battait pour le titre 125cc avec Nico Terol puis cinquième en Moto2™ en 2013. 

L’an dernier, Rabat avait remporté l’épreuve tchèque avec trois secondes d’avance. La saison 2015 s’avère jusqu’ici bien plus compliquée pour le Champion en titre, en raison de plusieurs chutes et blessures qui l’ont quasiment privé de ses chances de défendre sa couronne. L’an dernier, sa victoire à Brno avait été la première d’une série de trois, le genre de résultats dont il aurait bien besoin pour réaffirmer se relancer.

Parmi les pilotes à surveiller ce week-end, le Suisse Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) a fini dans le Top 5 de Brno ces quatre dernières années, avec deux podiums : une deuxième place en 2012 et une troisième en 2013. Régulièrement dans le Top 6 depuis le début de l’année, Lüthi occupe la quatrième place du classement général, devant Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) et Siméon, et pourrait bien rejoindre Rins et Rabat dans la bagarre pour le titre de vice-Champion.

MotoGP ; Troisième pole position d’affilée pour Zarco / Zarco on pole for Moto2™ clash

Le Français, vainqueur des deux épreuves précédentes depuis la pole, continue d’asseoir sa domination sur la catégorie Moto2™.

              

Johann Zarco s’est emparé de la pole position pour le Grand Prix GoPro d’Allemagne et sera donc en tête de la grille pour conclure une exceptionnelle première moitié de saison 2015. 

Après avoir remporté deux victoires d’affilée, ce qu’aucun Français n’avait réussi dans la catégorie intermédiaire depuis Christian Sarron en 1984, le pilote du team Ajo Motorsport était arrivé au Sachsenring en pleine confiance et, après avoir été devancé par Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing) samedi matin, a repris l’avantage en qualifications avec un chrono de 1’24.044, le nouveau record du circuit pour la catégorie Moto2™. 

En pole pour la troisième fois de suite et la quatrième fois de l’année, Zarco, qui mène le classement général avec 45 points d’avance sur le Champion en titre Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0), aura dimanche rendez-vous avec l’histoire pour devenir le premier Français à s’imposer trois fois de suite dans la catégorie intermédiaire des Grands Prix mais aussi le premier pilote à remporter trois victoires consécutives depuis la pole en Moto2™.

Zarco sera aussi particulièrement bien placé pour accroître son avance en tête du classement général puisque Rabat, son principal adversaire dans la lutte pour le titre mondial, ne sera que sixième sur la grille de départ après avoir fini à 0.463s de la pole. Zarco s’est en plus imposé à chaque fois qu’il est parti en pole position cette année, en Argentine comme en Catalogne et aux Pays-Bas.

Huitième du classement général à exactement 100 points de Zarco, Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2), en pole en Allemagne en 2013, a été le seul à vraiment pouvoir s’approcher du leader de la catégorie en qualifications et a terminé à moins d’un dixième de seconde de la pole, en deuxième position, devant Morbidelli, qui n’a que trois points de plus que le Belge à son compteur. 

Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) et Simone Corsi (Athinà Forward Racing) seront quant à eux respectivement quatrième et cinquième sur la grille de départ, devant Rabat, tandis que les Allemands Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team) seront en troisième ligne, en compagnie de Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing). 

Très performant la veille, le vice-Champion Mika Kallio (Italtrans Racing) ne sera finalement que dixième sur la grille après avoir conclu à plus de six dixièmes de la pole, devant Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia), Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40) et Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten). 

Ricky Cardús et Marcel Schrötter, qui avait chuté le matin, ont pris les 20e et 21e positions. Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2) partira quant à lui 29e.

The French rider will start from pole for the German GP Moto2 race, ahead of Xavier Simeón & Franco Morbidelli.

A lap time of 1'24.044 earned Zarco his fourth pole position of the season. He will be hoping to break away early in the race, but expects a fight: "We’ve had to work hard because yesterday we were not so fast. I also try to understand my strength and weaknesses. The pace for the race was good in the morning and our first target is to win the race tomorrow. We have to stay focused tomorrow because I think the race will be quite hard. I’ll try and break away but maybe we will have to fight with the others - I’ve enjoyed fighting this year."

Xavier Simeón (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) makes a return to the front row - his last front row start was at the Americas GP when he took pole: "I think I can be strong in the race, we had a good pace in the morning and we rode well in Qualifying.I have good feeling with the bike and I think we can fight for the podium, but so can a lot of other riders as the lap time is very close. It’s four or five races we’ve fought for the top five but we’ve been lacking that last step to fight for the podium, hopefully we can make it today.

For Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team), this is only his second ever podium, having started from 3rd in Valencia in 2014: "I push very hard, it has been a pretty good lap. I had to do it a bit before the end because at the end everyone is looking for a tow so it was easier to set a lap time earlier. The important thing is the pace and it’s pretty good. Looking forward to tomorrow."

Thomas Luthi (Derendinger Racing Intewetten) will start from 4th place, with Simone Corsi (Athiná Forward Racing) and Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) joining him on the second row in 5th and 6th respectively.

German riders Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) and Jonas Folger (AGR Team) will start from 7th and 8th, with Brit Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) in 9th. Mika Kallio (Italtrans Racing Team) completed the top ten.

The Moto2 action continues on July 12 at 09:10 local time with the warm up session, with the race to start at 12:20.

Zarco s’impose à nouveau devant Rabat à Assen / Zarco wins showdown with Rabat in Moto2™

Le Français a doublé le Champion en titre à deux tours de l’arrivée pour s’offrir une seconde victoire consécutive, sa troisième de l’année.

Suite à un bien mauvais départ, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a de nouveau réalisé une superbe fin de course pour aller chercher la victoire devant Tito Rabat (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) au Motul TT Assen, dans une course réduite à seize tours suite à un drapeau rouge. 

Devancé par Jonas Folger (AGR Team) et Rabat au départ, le Français est patiemment revenu sur ses concurrents et s’est emparé de la première place devant Rabat à deux tours de l’arrivée pour immédiatement faire le break et prendre une troisième victoire et cinq points de plus que le Champion en titre, qu’il devance désormais de 45 points.

En tête durant toute la première moitié de la course, Folger a perdu en rythme sur la suite et a fini septième tandis que Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) s’emparait de la troisième place devant Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40), Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) et Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2).

Moto2™ World Championship leader Johann Zarco came out on top in duel with rival Tito Rabat in a re-started race at the Motul TT Assen.

Ajo Motorsport’s Zarco took victory in front of the passionate Dutch fans that had flocked in to see his showdown with title rival Tito Rabat at the TT Circuit Assen in conditions that improved as the race went on, with the sun coming out and track tempereatures rising to 28°C. The re-started race was reduced to 16 laps because of a red flag on the very first lap during the original race, after an incident between Marcel Schrotter, Anthony West and Luis Salom that saw the latter crash out and his bike catch fire, leading to oil on the track.

During the re-start Zarco got bogged down off the line while AGR Team’s Jonas Folger led into the first corner, and built up a lead of almost a second over Tito Rabat in second. Zarco picked his way through the field and attempted to make a move on Rabat for second on lap 4, with the two rivals making contact and Zarco running wide.

It didn’t take long for Rabat to close down Folger and take the lead on lap 8, with Zarco also passing the German shortly afterwards. Rabat the built a 0.5s gap at the front, before Zarco started to hunt him down. Zarco timed it to perfection as he took the lead with three laps to go, giving Rabat a ‘nudge’ in the process, and went on to win his third race of the season by 0.757s. Rabat had no answer to Zarco’s pace, and had to settle for second, with Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes (+2.080s) crossing the line in third after an excellent ride for his 3rd podium of the season.

Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins (+03.738s) crossed the line in fourth ahead of Thomas Luthi (+4.530s) on the Derendinger Racing Interwetten Kalex and Federal Oil Gresini Moto2’s Xavier Simeon (+5.045s) in sixth.

Folger faded after his excellent start to the race, eventually finishing in seventh, with Mika Kallio (Italtrans Racing Team) in eighth and rookie Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) equalling his career best Moto2™ finish in ninth.

Athina Forward Racing’s Simone Corsi completed the top ten as his teammate Lorenzo Baldassari crashed out of the race in an incident with Anthony West. Louis Rossi, Ricky Cardus and Florian Alt also recorded DNF’s, with Luis Salom not able to take his place on the grid for the re-started race due to the damage to his bike from the red flag incident.

Zarco (159pts) has now extended his Moto2™ World Championship lead over Rabat (114pts) to 45 points, with Sam Lowes (96pts) consolidating third a further 18 points back.

Moto2 ; Zarco triomphe devant les Catalans à Montmeló / Zarco victorious in epic Moto2™ last lap battle

Johann Zarco a décroché sa seconde victoire de la saison en s’imposant devant les Barcelonais Álex Rins et Tito Rabat chez eux à Montmeló.

Passé de la pole position à la sixième place dès le premier tour, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a dû mener un travail de longue haleine pour rattraper un à un ses adversaires et revenir au niveau de Tito Rabat (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) et d’Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40) juste avant la fin de la course.

Passé devant Rins au début d’un excellent dernier tour, le Français a fini par s’emparer de la première place devant Rabat sans laisser aucune chance de contre-attaquer à ce dernier, qui est plus tard parti à la faute et a concédé la deuxième place à Rins. 

La petite erreur de Rabat faisait les affaires de Zarco puisque sa victoire, combinée à la troisième place du Champion en titre, lui permet de compter 40 points d’avance sur Rabat à l’issue des sept premières manches de la saison 2015. 

Après un bon début de course, Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) a perdu en rythme et a dû se contenter de finir quatrième, avec une confortable avance sur Luis Salom (Páginas Amarillas HP 40), Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team), qui était descendu en quatorzième position dans le premier tour.

Johann Zarco mounts a spectacular comeback to take his second win of the season on the very last lap at the Catalan GP.

Zarco bounced back superbly from a close incident at the first corner involving Dominique Aegerter and Jonas Folger to deny reigning World Champion Tito Rabat a second successive victory in front of his passionate home crowd.

The Frenchman, who led Rabat in the Moto2™ World Championship standings by 31-points before the race, fought his way through the pack before catching the leading group and making a block pass on Rabat at turn 5 on the last lap to snatch victory.

With glorious sunshine and track temperatures reaching 46°C it was Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Rabat that led the race into the first corner. Sam Lowes and Aegerter joined Rabat in the leading trio, and it did not take long for Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins to join fight his way into victory contention.  Both Rins and Lowes took it in turn to lead, but Lowes was unable to maintain his pace and he eventually finished fourth for a third race in succession.

All the time Zarco was hunting down the lead group, eventually overtaking Lowes and catching Rabat and Rins with three laps to go. Rins ran wide at turn 4 with just two laps to go, leaving Rabat and Zarco to battle it out on the final lap.

Zarco made his decisive move at turn 5, and while pushing to regain the lead, Rabat ran wide at turn 10 to see his hopes of a 12th Moto2 win disappear.

Zarco crossed the line unchallenged to take his second race win of the season and extend his championship lead over Rabat to 40 points.

Rabat’s late mistake let Rins through to take his third podium of the season in second.

Lowes took fourth, ahead of Rins’ teammate Luis Salom in fifth and Derendinger Racing Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi in sixth. Folger, (AGR Team) who was also involved in the incident at the first corner, mounted a brilliant recovery from 14th to take seventh.

Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team), Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) and Lorenzo Baldassari (Athina Forward Racing) completed the top ten.

There were crashes for Ricard Cardus, Robin Mulhauser, and Ratthapark Wilairot on his return to the Moto2™ class. Sandro Cortese and Xavier Simeon crashed out at turn 4 on the first lap, with an incident involving Morbidelli and Axel Pons (AGR Team) at the same corner was under investigation by Race Direction.

La lutte pour le titre Moto2™ continue à Montmeló / Moto2™ title fight continues in Catalunya

Johann Zarco demeure en tête du classement général suite à ce que Tito Rabat ait décroché sa première victoire de l’année en Italie.

                 

Vainqueur depuis la pole l’an dernier en Catalogne, Tito Rabat (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) a remporté sa première victoire de l’année, la première depuis Misano 2014, au Mugello à la fin du mois de mai et a ainsi lancé pour de bon sa saison 2015 après un début d'année compliqué. Le Champion en titre sera donc en confiance ce week-end pour courir devant ses fans au Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya et cherchera à finir devant Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport).

Deuxième au Mugello, Zarco conserve 31 points d’avance sur l’Espagnol et demeurera donc leader du classement Moto2™ à l’issue du Grand Prix Monster Energy de Catalogne, quel que soit son résultat, mais visera bien évidemment le podium, dont il occupait l’an dernier la troisième marche. 

Après un nouvel abandon en Italie, Jonas Folger (AGR Team) est descendu à la cinquième place du classement général, derrière Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) et Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing), alors qu’il est le seul pilote à s’être imposé deux fois cette année.

                  

Suite à un impressionnant début de saison, Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40) a aligné deux résultats blancs en France et en Espagne, avant de finir en onzième position au Mugello. Le rookie espagnol demeure un sérieux candidat au podium et notamment chez lui à Barcelone, où il arrivera en étant classé sixième au championnat.

Mika Kallio avait fini au pied du podium l’an dernier, à deux dixièmes de seconde de la troisième place, et demeure en difficulté sur la Kalex 2015 avec l’Italtrans Racing Team. Le Finlandais et son équipe avaient réalisé d’importants changements au Mugello, où son week-end s’était malheureusement conclu sur une chute.

La première séance d’essais Moto2™ du Grand Prix Monster Energy de Catalogne aura lieu vendredi matin à 10h55.

                    

Moto2™ has seen five different winners in the five previous races held in Barcelona, while Rabat looks to become the first repeat winner.

Catalunya has seen Tito Rabat finish on the podium in both 2013 and 2014, last year converting pole to victory. The Spaniard returned to the top step of the podium for the first time since Misano 2014 last time out in Mugello and has reignited his Moto2™ Title defence. His win at Mugello is also the first win by a reigning world champion in the intermediate-class since Marco Simoncelli won the 250cc race at Philip Island in 2009.

Johann Zarco had a strong performance in Mugello, recovering from a lacklustre grid position to challenge Rabat for the victory down to the final corner. The Barcelona track has seen mixed results for Zarco who crossed the line first in 2011, but was given a 20 second penalty for an illegal passing manoeuvre. He secured a third in Moto2™ last year and has so far this seen shown steady form allowing him to securing five successive podium finishes.

2015 has been a season of highs and lows for Jonas Folger; the German has taken two wins but also failed to score points on three occasions. The 2011 season saw Folger claim third in the 125cc race at Catalunya, but he failed to finish the Moto2™ race last year. More race wins and increased consistency could still see Folger as a championship contender.

                       

At the start of the season, Alex Rins looked set to be a title contender, but after DNFs in both France and Spain his title challenge has faded. Rins’ performances are still remarkable as a rookie in the highly competitive Moto2™ class, the Spaniard sitting in sixth on the championship table, former teammate Alex Marquez is the next highest rookie in 17th

Last year’s Catalunya GP saw Mika Kallio finish just off the podium in fourth position, within 0.2s of third spot. The Finn has had a difficult season since transferring to the Italtrans Racing Team, struggling somewhat with the 2015 version of the Kalex frame. He and the team made changes in Mugello, but an unfortunate crash stopped them from assessing the alterations over race distance.

Speed Up’s Sam Lowes continues to put up a strong fight against the overwhelming number of Kalex bikes on the Moto2™ grid. The aluminium swing arm introduced during the off-season as well as increased track knowledge has seen the British rider able to finish inside the top five on all but two occasions. Last year sway Lowes crash on the opening lap in Barcelona.

Zarco décroche sa première victoire en Moto2™ en Argentine / Zarco takes maiden Moto2™ victory to lead Championship

Le Français a été l’auteur d’une course parfaite et a remporté une première victoire qu’il convoitait depuis longtemps.

Qualifié en pole position à Termas de Río Hondo, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a concédé la première position pour les deux premiers tours d’une longue course qu’il a ensuite faite en solitaire une fois repassé en tête, en entretenant une avance de près de deux secondes sur ses poursuivants. L’ancien vice-Champion du Monde 125cc est maintenant en tête du Championnat du Monde Moto2™ pour la toute première fois.

Après avoir décroché son premier podium en Moto2™ dès sa seconde course, à Austin, où il avait fini derrière Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) et Zarco, le rookie espagnol Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40) a de nouveau impressionné et a fini par venir à bout de Lowes pour prendre la seconde place. Mika Kallio (Italtrans Racing Team), Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team) et Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) complétaient le Top 6 à l’arrivée.

Johann Zarco cruises to a comfortable maiden Moto2™ win ahead of Sam Lowes and Alex Rins in Argentina to lead the Moto2™ World Championship.

Ajo Motorsport’s Johann Zarco claimed his first win of the 2015 season to take over the lead at the top of the Moto2™ World Championship standings.

Pole sitter Zarco didn't have the best of starts, but took the lead on the third lap and began to pull away immediately, extending his lead to over 2 seconds and managing the gap at the front perfectly to take the win.

At one point it looked like Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes might hunt down Zarco, but he didn't have quite have the pace and found himself coming under pressure from Rookie Alex Rins on the Paginas Amarillas HP40 machine towards the end of the race. Rins eventually overtaking the Brit with 2 laps to go to take second place as Lowes ran into some tyre issues, although the Brit managed to hang on to claim the final podium spot.

Last years Moto2™ runner-up Mika Kallio (Italtrans Racing Team) was in fourth, ahead of his Italian teammate Franco Morbidelli and Thomas Luthi on the Derendinger Racing Interwetten Kalex.

Dynavolt Intact GP’s Sandro Cortese finished in 7th, ahead of Lorenzo Baldassari (Athina Forward Racing), AGR Team’s Jonas Folger and Hafizh Syahrin on the Petronas Raceline Malaysia bike completing the top ten.

Reigning Moto2™ World Champion Tito Rabat took the hole shot into the first corner, but then ran wide after dicing with Zarco for the lead, and was forced to rejoined the track at the back of the field, eventually finishing in 12th.

Zarco now has a four-point lead in the Moto2™ World Championship standings over Rins after 3 races.

Zarco joins Caterham Moto Racing Team / Zarco officiellement annoncé chez Caterham pour 2014

Zarco, who finished second in the 2011 125cc Championship and who is currently ninth in the 2013 Moto2 standings, will bring considerable experience and talent to the new team.

 

The rider himself commented, “I'm very happy to join Caterham Moto Racing Team and proud that I’m one of the first riders to join this new team as it starts its adventure in motorcycle racing. We’re targeting consistent strong results in our first season and the experience I have gained in the last two Moto2 seasons will help us achieve that.”

 

“It’s also great to be back working with a number of people who I last worked with in 2011, for example Tony Fernandes whose backing was one of the key elements to helping me finish second in 125cc. Caterham also have some of the same people working on the bike who I worked with back in 2011 and the success we had then shows clearly what we can achieve together.”

 

The Frenchman continued, “The final piece of the team for me is also in place as my coach Laurent Fellon will continue to be part of my crew – he plays a very important role in every aspect of my racing, for example helping me to stay calm when we meet difficult periods along the way. With Laurent and the whole team that Caterham is putting together, I think we have an exciting future ahead.”

 

Johan Stigefelt, Team Manager of the Caterham Moto Racing Team added, “We are very pleased that we’ve been able to secure Johann as one of our two riders for 2014. His talent speaks for itself and he brings Moto2 experience, something that is going to be a valuable asset for us in 2014. The first chance we will have to work with Johann on track will be at the November tests in Jerez and Almeria and everyone is excited about starting work with him and Josh, and even more so about seeing what this pairing can achieve next year.”

Vice-Champion du Monde 125cc en 2011, Johann Zarco est actuellement neuvième du Championnat du Monde Moto2™ 2013 et apportera son expérience au nouveau Caterham Moto Racing Team, qu’avait présenté Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun lors du dernier GP de Malaisie. 

Johann Zarco :

« Je suis très heureux de rejoindre le Caterham Moto Racing Team et fier d’être l’un des premiers pilotes à courir pour ce nouveau team, qui débute en moto. Pour notre première saison ensemble, nous voudrons réaliser de bons résultats de manière régulière et l’expérience que j’ai accumulée lors de mes deux dernières saisons en Moto2 devrait nous aider. C’est aussi très bien d’avoir le soutien de plusieurs personnes avec lesquelles j’avais travaillé en 2011, comme par exemple Tony Fernandes, dont le soutien avait été l’une des clés de ma saison en 125cc quand j’avais fini deuxième. Caterham employe aussi plusieurs personnes avec qui j’avais travaillé en 2011 et le succès que nous avions eu à l’époque montre le potentiel que nous aurons ensemble. »

« La dernière pièce dont le team avait besoin est également en place puisque mon coach Laurent Fellon continuera de faire partie de mon équipe. Il joue un rôle très important dans tous les aspects de ma carrière et m’aide par exemple à garder mon calme lorsque nous traversons des moments difficiles. Avec Laurent et toute l’équipe que Caterham a réunie, je pense qu’un bel avenir nous attend. »
