Folger s’assure la pole en Moto2™ à Losail / Folger takes his second Moto2™ pole ahead of the Qatar GP

Jonas Folger sera en pole position au Qatar après avoir battu Sam Lowes et Álex Rins en qualifications.

Vainqueur à Losail l’an dernier, Jonas Folger (Dynavolt Intaact GP) sera en pole position cette année pour viser un nouveau succès sur l’épreuve qatarie. Présent aux avant-postes dès le début des essais libres, le pilote allemand s’est rapidement installé en pole provisoire avec un chrono de 1’59.052, qui est le nouveau record absolu du circuit et qui lui a valu la sixième pole position de sa carrière.

Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) a de son coté signé le deuxième temps et terminait à moins d’un dixième de seconde de la pole tandis qu’Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40) a conservé la troisième position après sa chute dans le virage n°2. 

Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport), le Champion en titre, est lui aussi passé sous l’ancien record absolu du circuit mais devra se contenter de partir en tête de la deuxième ligne, en compagnie de Franco Morbidelli (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) et de Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP). 

Tombé dans le virage n°2 en fin de séance, au même endroit que Rins, Lorenzo Baldassarri (Forward Team) devait mener la troisième ligne, devant Marcel Schrötter (AGR Team), troisième Allemand classé dans le Top 9, et Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia). L'Italien s'est cependant luxé les deux épaules et ne pourra pas participer à la course.

Tom Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten) ne sera que dixième sur la grille de départ alors qu’il avait été parmi les plus rapides en début de semaine et a échoué à 0.858s de la pole position. Il retrouvera en troisième ligne l'Anglais Danny Kent (Leopard Racing), de retour dans la catégorie après avoir été titré en Moto3™ en 2015, et Axel Pons (AGR Team).

Times began to fall almost immediately in the desert, Folger securing pole position in front of Lowes and Rins.

Almost as soon as riders in the Moto2™ World Championship hit the Losail International Circuit, times began to plummet. Sam Lowes’ (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) best time from Friday practice, a new lap record, was bested by Jonas Folger (Dynavolt Intact GP) on the German’s third lap.

The top ten contenders were able to consistently lap in the 1’59s lap after lap, even as traffic increased towards the end of the session. As has been the trend in Moto2™ in recent years, early banker laps proved invaluable as two of the top three riders set their fastest time within their first five laps.

On pole for just the second time in his intermediate class career, Jonas Folger’s early lap proved unbeatable as the German set a new pole record with a 1’59.052. Folger’s previous pole came at the French GP in 2014, starting on the front row a further three times in 2015.

0.072s behind the German was Lowes, the Brit unable to repeat his 2015 pole but still improving his best time to a 1’59.124. Lowes will be looking to add to his five previous podium finishes in the intermediate class. Throughout the weekend Lowes has been quick over multiple laps as well as one offs, frequently setting his best times at the end of longer runs.

Completing the front row is Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP 40), setting a 1’59.354 on his third lap. The Spaniard was unable to improve after he suffered a bike crunching crash at Turn 2, his Kalex tumbling through the gravel after losing the front. His team worked feverishly to repair the bike, sending him back out with just five minutes remaining.

Reigning Moto2™ World Champion, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) wrestled his way up to fourth on his last lap, only 0.065s off a front row start. No defending Moto2™ champion has ever taken victory in the opening race of the year, the Frenchman aims to change that on Sunday.

Fifth was Franco Morbidelli (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS), the Italian initially struggling during testing and practice with his new team. But when it mattered the Italian was able to produce a 1’59.509 and end 0.457s back on pole. One thing is certain for Sunday’s race; Morbidelli’s aggressive all or nothing style will see him towards the front for at least part of the race.

Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP), Lorenzo Baldassarri (Forward Team), Marcel Schrotter (AGR Team), Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Team Asia) and Tom Luthi (Garage Plus Interwetten) completed the top ten.

There was an early involving both Luca Marini (Forward Team) and Ratthapark Wilairot (Idemitsu Team Asia) at Turn 16. Both were unhurt but Marini’s session was reduced to just five minutes.

Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team) also suffered his second fall of the weekend at Turn 1. Rins was not the only victim of Turn 2, Lorenzo Baldassarri falling at the same corner with one minute remaining. Baldassarri was taken to the medical centre for checks after his crash. He was declared unfit due to dislocating both his shoulders.

The first race of the year will take place at 19:20 Local Time for the Moto2™ World Championship on Sunday the 20th of March. With the top five split by half a second, who will win is still anyone’s guess.

Une sixième pole et le record du circuit pour Zarco / Zarco snatches Moto2™ pole from Rins' grasp

Le Français a soufflé la pole à Álex Rins pour deux petits millièmes de seconde.

              

Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a remporté au Grand Prix TIM de Saint-Marin et de la Riviera di Rimini sa sixième pole position en treize courses cette saison et partira donc en tête de la grille à Misano pour faire un nouveau pas en avant vers le titre mondial. 

Leader de la catégorie avec 85 points d’avance sur Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40), le Français a battu l’Espagnol de tout juste deux millièmes de seconde en qualifications tandis que Tito Rabat (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), le Champion en titre, qui n’est qu’à trois points de Rins au général, terminait à exactement un dixième de seconde de la pole pour compléter la première ligne. 

               

En tête de la deuxième ligne, Simone Corsi (Forward Racing) sera le pilote local le mieux placé sur la grille et partira en compagnie de Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) et de Hafizh Syarhrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia).

Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing), Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team) partiront pour leur part de la troisième ligne. 

Tombé dès le début de la séance, Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) sera vingtième sur la grille de départ. Álex Márquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), tombé un peu plus tard, a de son côté pris la 17e position tandis que Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2), qui avait chuté le matin, partira 30e.

Championship leader Johann Zarco takes his 6th pole of season by just 0.002s from Alex Rins with Tito Rabat completing the front row.

Ajo Motorsport’s Johann Zarco left it late to deny Alex Rins pole position by just two-thousandths of second at the GP TIM di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini. The Frenchman took almost a second off Pol Espargaro’s 2013 Pole Record (1’37.666) to set a 1’32.754 with 4 minutes left, the fastest ever time by a Moto2™ bike around the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

               

Paginas Amarillas Rins had been on top of the timesheets for most of the session but had to settle for second behind Zarco as he starts from the front row for the sixth time this season. EG 0,0 Marc VDS’s Rabat (+0.100s) was third fastest as he claimed his 11th front row start of 2015 after the reigning Moto2™ World Champion had earlier topped FP3.

Forward Racing’s Simone Corsi (+0.367s) heads up the second row in his best qualifying performance since Assen. Dominique Aegerter (+0.418s) on the Technomag Racing Interwetten will start from fifth with Petronas Raceline Malaysia’s Hafizh Syahrin (+0.466s) producing his career best Moto2™ qualifying result to complete the second row.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes heads the third row ahead of Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) and Jonas Folger (AGR Team), while Julian Simon (QMMF) completes the top ten.

              

Axel Pons (AGR Team) crashed for the third time on Saturday as he hit the deck at turn 10. There was an incredible incident for wildcard Xavi Vierge (Tech 3) as he crashed coming out of turn 7 and his rider-less bike veered across track twice, luckily missing other riders on track before hitting the barriers.

Zarco en pole pour la cinquième fois de l’année à Brno / Zarco claims 5th pole of the season

Le Français a battu les Espagnols Tito Rabat et Álex Rins d’un quart de seconde en qualifications.

               

Seulement huitième de la troisième séance d’essais libres samedi matin en République Tchèque, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a très vite rattrapé sa journée en qualifications et a battu le record du circuit de Brno dès son cinquième tour, avec un chrono de 2’01.614. 

Le Français, leader de la catégorie avec 71 points d’avance, n’a ensuite pas été inquiété par Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) et Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40), qui, malgré leurs efforts, n’ont pu se rapprocher qu’à un quart de seconde de la pole position et ont respectivement pris les seconde et troisième positions, séparés de seulement 0.028s. 

                

À l’instar de Zarco, Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) et Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) ont signé leurs meilleurs tours respectifs dès le début de la séance et ont terminé aux quatrième et cinquième places, devant Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten), sixième à 0.828s de Zarco. 

Septième, le Champion du Monde Moto3™ 2014 Álex Márquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) réalisait sa meilleure qualification depuis son arrivée dans la catégorie Moto2™ et finissait devant Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing), Axel Pons (AGR Team) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team).

              

Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) devra se contenter d’un départ en 13e position après une défaillance de sa suspension arrière. 

Plutôt bien parti depuis le début du week-end, Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2) a chuté en début de séance et sera vingtième sur la grille de départ, derrière Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) et devant Marcel Schrötter (Tech3 Racing).

Johann Zarco makes it five pole positions this season as he finishes on top of the timesheets ahead of Tito Rabat and Alex Rins.

          

Ajo Motorsports Johann Zarco secured his fifth pole position of the season in ideal conditions at the bwin Grand Prix Ceské Republiky. The Frenchman who currently enjoys a 71-point lead in the Moto2™ World Championship set a 2’01.614 to break Tito Rabat’s 2014 pole record (2’01.911) in the process.

               

Zarco finished 0.259s ahead of Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS’s Rabat, with the Spaniard missing out on pole after leading the way in FP3 earlier. Rabat also went under his pole record from last year as the top four riders all set times under the 2’02 barrier.

Indianapolis race winner, Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins (+0.287s), completes the front row. Rins was just 0.028s off the pace of Rabat and it should be an incredible battle between these three on Sunday.

Dynavolt Intact GP’s Sandro Cortese (+0.376s) will start from the front of the second row in fourth as he matched his best qualifying performance of the season (Qatar).  Derendinger Racing Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi (+0.464s) was fifth fastest, ahead of his compatriot Dominique Aegerter (+0.828s) on the Technomag Racing Interwetten Kalex.

Reigning Moto3™ World Champion Alex Marquez (Paginas Amarillas HP40) put in his best qualifying performance of the season and will start from seventh.

Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team), Axel Pons (AGR Team) and his teammate Jonas Folger complete the top ten with the returning Forward Racing’s Lorenzo Baldassari and Simone Corsi in 11th and 12th respectively.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes will be forced to start the race from 13th, his worst qualifying performance of the season, after his suspension collapsed and he was forced to miss the last ten minutes of the session.

MotoGP ; Troisième pole position d’affilée pour Zarco / Zarco on pole for Moto2™ clash

Le Français, vainqueur des deux épreuves précédentes depuis la pole, continue d’asseoir sa domination sur la catégorie Moto2™.

              

Johann Zarco s’est emparé de la pole position pour le Grand Prix GoPro d’Allemagne et sera donc en tête de la grille pour conclure une exceptionnelle première moitié de saison 2015. 

Après avoir remporté deux victoires d’affilée, ce qu’aucun Français n’avait réussi dans la catégorie intermédiaire depuis Christian Sarron en 1984, le pilote du team Ajo Motorsport était arrivé au Sachsenring en pleine confiance et, après avoir été devancé par Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing) samedi matin, a repris l’avantage en qualifications avec un chrono de 1’24.044, le nouveau record du circuit pour la catégorie Moto2™. 

En pole pour la troisième fois de suite et la quatrième fois de l’année, Zarco, qui mène le classement général avec 45 points d’avance sur le Champion en titre Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0), aura dimanche rendez-vous avec l’histoire pour devenir le premier Français à s’imposer trois fois de suite dans la catégorie intermédiaire des Grands Prix mais aussi le premier pilote à remporter trois victoires consécutives depuis la pole en Moto2™.

Zarco sera aussi particulièrement bien placé pour accroître son avance en tête du classement général puisque Rabat, son principal adversaire dans la lutte pour le titre mondial, ne sera que sixième sur la grille de départ après avoir fini à 0.463s de la pole. Zarco s’est en plus imposé à chaque fois qu’il est parti en pole position cette année, en Argentine comme en Catalogne et aux Pays-Bas.

Huitième du classement général à exactement 100 points de Zarco, Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2), en pole en Allemagne en 2013, a été le seul à vraiment pouvoir s’approcher du leader de la catégorie en qualifications et a terminé à moins d’un dixième de seconde de la pole, en deuxième position, devant Morbidelli, qui n’a que trois points de plus que le Belge à son compteur. 

Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) et Simone Corsi (Athinà Forward Racing) seront quant à eux respectivement quatrième et cinquième sur la grille de départ, devant Rabat, tandis que les Allemands Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team) seront en troisième ligne, en compagnie de Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing). 

Très performant la veille, le vice-Champion Mika Kallio (Italtrans Racing) ne sera finalement que dixième sur la grille après avoir conclu à plus de six dixièmes de la pole, devant Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia), Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40) et Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten). 

Ricky Cardús et Marcel Schrötter, qui avait chuté le matin, ont pris les 20e et 21e positions. Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2) partira quant à lui 29e.

The French rider will start from pole for the German GP Moto2 race, ahead of Xavier Simeón & Franco Morbidelli.

A lap time of 1'24.044 earned Zarco his fourth pole position of the season. He will be hoping to break away early in the race, but expects a fight: "We’ve had to work hard because yesterday we were not so fast. I also try to understand my strength and weaknesses. The pace for the race was good in the morning and our first target is to win the race tomorrow. We have to stay focused tomorrow because I think the race will be quite hard. I’ll try and break away but maybe we will have to fight with the others - I’ve enjoyed fighting this year."

Xavier Simeón (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) makes a return to the front row - his last front row start was at the Americas GP when he took pole: "I think I can be strong in the race, we had a good pace in the morning and we rode well in Qualifying.I have good feeling with the bike and I think we can fight for the podium, but so can a lot of other riders as the lap time is very close. It’s four or five races we’ve fought for the top five but we’ve been lacking that last step to fight for the podium, hopefully we can make it today.

For Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team), this is only his second ever podium, having started from 3rd in Valencia in 2014: "I push very hard, it has been a pretty good lap. I had to do it a bit before the end because at the end everyone is looking for a tow so it was easier to set a lap time earlier. The important thing is the pace and it’s pretty good. Looking forward to tomorrow."

Thomas Luthi (Derendinger Racing Intewetten) will start from 4th place, with Simone Corsi (Athiná Forward Racing) and Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) joining him on the second row in 5th and 6th respectively.

German riders Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) and Jonas Folger (AGR Team) will start from 7th and 8th, with Brit Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) in 9th. Mika Kallio (Italtrans Racing Team) completed the top ten.

The Moto2 action continues on July 12 at 09:10 local time with the warm up session, with the race to start at 12:20.

Quartararo en pole pour le Grand Prix de France / Quartararo secures pole for Le Mans Moto3™

Le rookie français a été confirmé en pole suite à l’arrivée de la pluie dès le début de séance de qualifications.

Fabio Quartararo (Estrella Galicia 0,0) sera en pole position pour la seconde course consécutive dimanche au Monster Energy Grand Prix de France après une séance de qualifications qui a été bouleversée par la pluie. 

L’arrivée de la pluie en début de séance a figé le classement et confirmé le rookie français en pole pour sa course nationale. Parti en piste dès l’ouverture de la pit-lane, Quartararo a donc bien fait de ne pas perdre de temps mais a fini par chuter, dans le virage n°1, et a été imité par son coéquipier Jorge Navarro, qui s’est néanmoins qualifié en seconde position.

Francesco Bagnaia (Mapfre Team Mahindra) complètera la première tandis que Jakub Kornfeil (Drive M7 SIC), Romano Fenati (SKY Racing Team VR46) et Jules Danilo (Ongetta-Rivacold) seront en deuxième ligne.

Si Quartararo et Danilo s’en sortent plutôt bien, Alexis Masbou (SaxoPrint-RTG) se retrouve quant à lui en 25e position, derrière Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo), dont le coéquipier Karel Hanika était classé 24e mais partira dernier pour avoir atteint les 7 points de pénalité lors du week-end de Jerez.

Danny Kent, le leader du Championnat du Monde Moto3™, son coéquipier Efrén Vázquez (Leopard Racing), son premier poursuivant au classement général, et Livio Loi (RW Racing GP), dans le Top 3 vendredi, regretteront aussi l’intervention de la pluie et partiront respectivement des 30e, 26e et 21e positions.

The Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider’s 1:44.763 lap was enough to secure him the first position on the grid for this weekend’s Moto3 battle.

Joining Fabio on the front row are Jorge Navarro (Estrella Galicia 0,0) & Francesco Bagnaia (Mapfre Mahindra Aspar).

Brit rider Danny Kent, arguably one of the favourites for pole after wining the last 3 consecutive races & setting good pace in free Practice, had issues in the QP that will see him starting from 30th on the grid. Kent said that he left the box late in the session to avoid anybody getting a tow from him & in order to get a clean lap. Unfortunately his box exit coincided with it starting to rain and he was unable to post a competitive time.

Jakub Kornfeil (Drive M7 SIC) will start from fourth, with Romano Fenati (SKY Racing Team VR46) starting in fifth. Jules Danilo (Ongetta-Rivacold), Niccolò Antonelli (Ongetta-Rivacold), Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Isaac Viñales (Husqvarna Factory LaGlisse) & Tatsuki Suzuki (CIP) complete the top 10.

Karel Hanika (Red Bull KTM Ajo) qualified in 24th place, but he will be starting from the pit lane as a penalty for his actions at the Jerez GP.

The Moto3 action continues on May 17 at 08:40 local time with the warm up session, with the race to start at 11:00.

GP Moto3 ; Quartararo signe sa première pole à Jerez

Le rookie français a décroché sa première pole en Moto3™ dès son quatrième Grand Prix.

Fabio Quartararo (Estrella Galicia 0,0) ne cesse d’impressionner depuis son arrivée dans la catégorie Moto3™ et a remporté la pole position pour le Grand Prix bwin d’Espagne. Qualifié en première ligne pour la première fois, le Français n’a, en raison de températures en hausse, pas battu le temps de référence établi par Danny Kent (Leopard Racing) le matin lors de la dernière séance d’essais mais a devancé le Britannique d’un bon dixième de seconde en qualifications.

Le Portugais Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) les accompagnera en première ligne tandis que Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Philipp Oettl (Schedl GP Racing) et Karel Hanika (Red Bull KTM Ajo), qui est tombé en fin de séance, seront sur la deuxième.

Les Français Alexis Masbou (SaxoPrint-RTG) et Jules Danilo (Ongetta-Rivacold) seront respectivement onzième et vingt-et-unième sur la grille de départ.
