Zarco prend les devants en Moto2™

À domicile, le Champion du Monde en titre s’est mis en confiance en signant le meilleur temps du vendredi au circuit Bugatti.

Sixième à trois dixièmes de seconde de Simone Corsi (Speed Up) au terme de la première séance d’essais, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a haussé le ton vendredi après-midi au Mans pour grimper au sommet de la feuille de temps, avec cependant tout juste 0.065s d’avance sur Tom Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten). 

Le Champion du Monde en titre tentera ce week-end de devenir le sixième Français à s’imposer au Mans en Grand Prix mais devra se méfier du Suisse, vainqueur du Monster Energy Grand Prix de France en 2015 et à quatre reprises au total dans sa carrière, ainsi que de Jonas Folger (Dynavolt Intact GP), qui s’est classé troisième (+0.187s) et peut désormais pleinement se concentrer sur sa saison 2016 après avoir été confirmé chez Tech3 en MotoGP™ pour 2017 juste avant l’ouverture du GP. 

Derrière le trio de tête, Lorenzo Baldassarri (Forward Team) a terminé à 0.488s de Zarco tandis que Simone Corsi (Speed Up Racing) et Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40) ont été moins rapides que le matin et ont fini cinquième et sixième sur le classement combiné, à une demi-seconde du Français.

Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia), Franco Morbidelli (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS), Marcel Schrötter (AGR Team) et Xavier Siméon (QMMF Racing) figuraient eux aussi dans le Top 10 à l'issue de la seconde séance d’essais. 

Leader du classement général avec respectivement dix et seize longueurs d’avance sur Rins et Zarco, Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) est tombé dans le virage n°7 et a bouclé la journée avec le treizième temps, derrière son compatriote Danny Kent (Leopard Racing) et le Malaisien Hafizh Syahrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia).

Le Français Lucas Mahias devait participer en wildcard sur la TransFIORmers de Christian Boudinot mais a finalement dû renoncer après s’être blessé à trois vertèbres en tombant à Imola en WorldSBK le week-end précédent.

Zarco fête son titre avec une nouvelle victoire au Japon / Moto2™ champion Zarco takes 7th win of the season

Le Français a remporté sa septième victoire de la saison après avoir été sacré Champion du Monde Moto2™ vendredi au Motegi.

            

En l’absence de Tito Rabat (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), dont le forfait avait permis à Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) d’hériter du titre de Champion du Monde Moto2™ dès le vendredi, le Français et Jonas Folger (AGR Team) ont été les deux principaux protagonistes d’une course sur piste mouillée au Grand Prix Motul du Japon.

Habituellement aussi à l’aise que Zarco sous la pluie, l’Allemand a pris un excellent départ depuis la troisième position et a même pris un peu d’avance, avant d’être rattrapé par le nouveau Champion du Monde. Ce dernier est passé en première position dans le cinquième des quinze tours de la course et a ensuite distancé son rival pour aller chercher en solitaire sa septième victoire de la saison, sa septième en catégorie Moto2™, sur le circuit où il avait remporté sa première et unique victoire en 125cc en 2011. 

              

Vainqueur au Qatar et en Espagne en début d’année, Folger retrouvait le podium pour la première fois depuis sa victoire à Jerez tandis que la troisième place est revenue à son compatriote Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP), qui a pris le meilleur sur Azlan Shah (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) en fin de course. En finissant quatrième, le Malaisien, qui n’était jamais entré dans le Top 10, décrochait le meilleur résultat de sa carrière et offrait un résultat positif au team Idemitsu Honda, dont le pilote japonais Takaaki Nakagami avait abandonné suite à une chute.

Son compatriote Hafizh Syahrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia), Ricky Cardús (JPMoto Malaysia), Simone Corsi (Forward Racing), Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing), Marcel Schrötter (Tech3 Racing) et Randy Krummenacher (JiR Racing Team) complétaient le Top 10 devant Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40), onzième après plusieurs sorties de piste. 

               

Deuxième sur la grille, Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) était aux avant-postes en début de course mais a chuté dès le deuxième tour, à l’instar de Xavi Vierge (Tech3 Racing). Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) a été contraint à abandonner aux stands tandis que Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2) a terminé vingtième après avoir été pénalisé pour avoir sauté le départ.

Moto2™ World Champion Johann Zarco put on a masterful display to take his seventh win of the season at the Twin Ring Motegi in the wet.

Ajo Motorsport’s Zarco was crowned the Moto2™ champion on Friday after the only man who could stop him lifting the title at Motegi, Tito Rabat, had to withdraw from the Motul Grand Prix of Japan due to injury. The Frenchman responded by riding brilliantly on a wet, but drying track, to take the race win from AGR Team’s Jonas Folger by 4.505s. Dynavolt Intact GP’s Sandro Cortese completed the podium a further 10.928s back, as a number of riders were caught out by front tyres issues in the tricky conditions.

The Moto2™ race was reduced to 15 laps after a two-hour delay to the morning’s Warm Up sessions due to track conditions. Zarco, starting from pole, found himself chasing down Folger in the early stages of the race after the German got the holeshot into turn 1. The newly crowned champion made his move on Folger for the lead on lap 7 and set off into to the distance to take his eighth career GP victory.

Folger finished in a lonely second as he returned to the podium for the first time since his win at the Catalan GP, his third rostrum of the season. Cortese, starting from 9th on the grid bided his time perfectly to move through the field and claim third from Idemitsu Honda Team Asia’s Azlan Shah by 1.915s. Cortese passed Shah on the penultimate lap to record his first podium of the season and first since Brno in 2014.

               

Shah crossed the line in fourth to record his career best Moto2™ result and first ever top ten finish. Petronas Raceline Malaysia’s Hafizh Syahrin claimed his best result of the season in fifth ahead of Ricky Cardus on the JP Moto Malaysia Suter in Sixth. It was also Cardus’ career best finish.

              

Simone Corsi (Forward Racing), Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing), Marcel Schrotter (Tech 3) and Randy Krummenacher (JIR Racing Team) completed the top ten. Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP40) had been competing for the podium, but was one of the riders to suffer from excessive front tyre wear as the track dried and had to settle for 11th after running wide a number of times in the latter stages of the race.

               

There were crashes for Luis Salom, Thitipong Warokorn, Thomas Luthi, Xavier Simeon, Xavi Vierge, Axel Pons and Joshua Hook who was substituting for the injured Dominique Aegerter.

Zarco : « Je n’étais pas assez relâché » / Zarco: “It's been a tough weekend”

Le Français a admis que la pression l’avait empêché d’être aussi relâché que d’habitude au MotorLand Aragón, où il a fini sixième.

           

Après des essais libres compliqués, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) avait réussi à se qualifier en première ligne mais n’a pas pris de risque en course et a terminé sixième alors que son premier poursuivant, Tito Rabat, décrochait la victoire. S’il manquait le podium pour la première fois depuis la première course de l’année, Zarco repartait quand même du MotorLand Aragón avec encore 78 points d’avance sur le Champion du Monde en titre et aura une nouvelle opportunité de décrocher le titre mondial la semaine prochaine, au Japon.

À son retour au garage, le Français a admis avoir pour la première fois de l’année ressenti la pression mais aura au moins eu le bon goût de calmement jouer la sécurité et de ne pas craquer.

Johann Zarco :

« Le plus important ce week-end a été de marquer dix points qui nous rapprochent encore un peu plus du titre. Le week-end a été dur et je n’ai pas réussi à être à l’aise. Pour les deux départs, le premier avait été bon mais pas le deuxième. Je sais que j’aurais pu rouler avec ceux qui étaient devant mais je n’ai pas pu le faire parce que je n’étais pas assez relâché. Je ne m’y attendais pas mais c’est ce qui est arrivé. J’ai ressenti la pression. Le point positif est que j’ai appris quelque chose et ce sera très important pour les prochaines courses. Le résultat n’était pas mauvais et maintenant je suis impatient d’aller au Japon, où je voudrai me battre pour la victoire. »

Avant sa sixième place au MotorLand, Zarco n'avait manqué le podium qu'une fois cette année, au Qatar, lors de la première course, où il s'était retrouvé dans l'impossibilité de changer de rapports alors qu'il était seul en tête de la course.

                 

Johann Zarco was presented with his first chance at the Moto2™ World Championship title in Aragon, but was unable to capitalize.

It was a calm and measured ride from Ajo Motosport’s Johann Zarco on Sunday at the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon, settling for points after a difficult weekend. Usually Zarco is up in the top five during practice, showing flashes of speed but hiding his true potential until race day, unfortunately in Aragon Zarco’s somewhat lacklustre Free Practice sessions showed that pressure was starting to mount on the French rider. Sunday’s race was reduced to 14 laps after a red flag on the opening lap brought all the riders back to the pits, the restart not going to plan for Zarco.

Zarco was unable to recreate his strong start during the second attempt, falling three places in the opening corner and becoming trapped in the second group as the leaders broke away. Unable to relax, Zarco was forced to settle for watching his title rival, Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Racing), slip away and take victory. Zarco’s title chance now heads to Motegi, the sight of his very first World Championship win in 2011, where he will need to leave with a at least a 75 point lead over Rabat. The difference is currently 78 points.

Johann Zarco: “The most important thing this weekend was picking up these 10 important points that allow us to move even closer to the title. It's been a tough weekend, in which I have not been able to feel relaxed. In the race there were two starts: The first was pretty good, but the second was not. I know I could have ridden with those at the front, but I was unable to do so because I was not relaxed enough. I did not expect this, but it's what happened. I felt the pressure. The good thing is that I have learned from it and that is very important for the next few races. The final result is not bad, so I'm looking forward to Japan and fighting for victory."

                 

Zarco : « Je ne sens pas vraiment la pression » / Zarco: “I will try to be calm”

Face à sa première balle de match pour le titre Moto2™, le Français affirme ne pas être pressé de s’emparer du titre mondial.

             

Tranquille et serein. C’est comme ça que Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) est apparu jeudi en conférence de presse au Grand Prix Movistar d’Aragón, où il aura sa toute première opportunité de devenir Champion du Monde Moto2™. À seulement quelques points de réaliser son rêve et de succéder à Christian Sarron et Olivier Jacque, le jeune Français ne compte pas s’emballer et a rappelé qu’avec 93 points d’avance et encore cinq courses devant lui, il n’avait aucunement l’obligation de remporter le titre ce week-end. 

Plutôt que de se précipiter sur la calculette et de lister ses options, Zarco restera fidèle à lui-même et travaillera avec son sérieux habituel pour viser une nouvelle victoire en course, comme à chaque autre week-end de son exceptionnelle saison 2015.

« C’est bien d’être dans cette position. J’ai consolidé mon avance à chaque course mais je ne sens pas vraiment la pression, » a affirmé Zarco jeudi en conférence de presse. « Il y a évidemment plus d’interviews et plus de journalistes qui me posent des questions sur le titre mais je dois me rappeler que le plus important est le titre et non l'endroit où je le remporterai. Je me le répète souvent pour rester calme et nous allons voir comment le week-end va se passer. Je veux simplement monter sur la moto, faire une bonne qualification et me battre pour la victoire. » 

Questionné sur la façon dont il aborde le week-end et les différentes combinaisons de résultats qui mèneraient à son sacre, Zarco a répondu : « Je sais juste que je remporterai le titre si je gagne la course et que Tito (Rabat) est troisième. Pour le reste, nous n’avons pas préparé de stratégie avec le team. Peut-être qu’ils me mettront quelque chose comme ‘P4 OK’ sur le pit-board mais nous devrons attendre dimanche. Il reste cinq courses et c’est bien pour moi. Je dois simplement continuer à travailler et c’est la meilleure façon d’atteindre un objectif. »

Rien de prévu non plus quant à une éventuelle célébration : « Je n’ai rien préparé, peut-être que mon coach a prévu quelque chose. Mais je ne sais pas. Il préfère que je n’aie pas à trop y penser. Il y a un grand mur ici à Aragón mais nous n’avons pas préparé de piscine pour sauter alors ça restera simple, un salto pour la victoire sera suffisant. »

Le vice-Champion du Monde 125cc 2011 a terminé en rappelant qu’il avait fait le choix de continuer en Moto2™ l’an prochain en attendant d’avoir un bon guidon en MotoGP™ et a d’autre part commenté les rumeurs qui l’annoncent comme pilote d’essais chez Suzuki dès 2016 :

« Je veux continuer en Moto2 avec le team d’Aki (Ajo). Beaucoup de pilotes luttent pendant des années pour finalement faire la saison parfaite et beaucoup d’entre eux ne retrouvent ensuite plus ce niveau. Je ne veux pas que ce soit comme ça pour moi. Je veux rester fort et comprendre comment rester au plus haut niveau. En ce qui concerne Suzuki, je ne sais pas. Je vais m’entraîner sur une Yamaha R1 en Espagne afin de m’habituer à la vitesse, parce que la R1 est déjà plus rapide qu’une Moto2, pour me préparer au MotoGP. Mais je n’ai pas de test de prévu pour l’instant. »

                

Avec 93 points d’avance en tête du Championnat du Monde Moto2™, Johann Zarco aura l’opportunité de mettre la main sur le titre mondial dès la quatorzième manche de la saison 2015, qui a lieu ce week-end au MotorLand Aragón. Le Français n’aura cependant pas toutes les cartes en main puisque son éventuel sacre dépendra des résultats de ses deux principaux adversaires, le tenant du titre Tito Rabat et le rookie espagnol Álex Rins.

• After an incredible season, Johann Zarco has his first chance to take the Moto2™ title at the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon.
  After taking the lead of the Moto2™ World Championship in Argentina, Zarco has been almost untouchable. The Ajo Motorsport rider has pushed for the win when able and settled for solid podiums and ensure strong points, avoiding all unneeded risks. His approach for the Aragon GP will remain the same and the Frenchman is doing his best to push title thoughts to the back of his mind, simply focusing on achieving the best result possible. A key to his 2015 success has been the high standard his Ajo Motorsport team has worked too, almost always able to find the perfect setting for his Kalex.
  Twice Zarco has stood on the Aragon podium, once in 2011 in the 125cc class and again in 2014 when riding the Caterham Suter in Moto2™. A podium repeat would go a long way in helping Zarco to secure the title, he must score seven more points than Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) to leave Aragon as the Moto2™ World Champion. At this stage it looks almost inevitable that Zarco will be crowned champion in 2015, though no doubt Rabat will do his best to prevent it.
  Johann Zarco: “I go to Aragon without thinking about the possibility of the title, because although this is the goal for the year, I have a big advantage and it is important to win it, not where I do it. If I see that I have a chance and I'm strong, I'll go for the win. I will try to be calm if I'm not the strongest, but I am convinced that the team will prepare the best bike possible for me. It's a track where I managed to get on the podium last year, and I've had other good races there, so I have good memories of Aragon. It is a circuit I like; fairly new, fast, with very interesting corners and where it can be quite windy. I will try to be calm, fight for the victory if possible and, if not, pick up points for the championship.”

Zarco réussit la passe de trois à Misano / Zarco has one hand on title after Moto2™ win

Vainqueur pour troisième fois de suite, Zarco aura une balle de match pour le titre Moto2™ 2015 dès la prochaine épreuve en Aragón.

           

Qualifié en pole position et plutôt bien parti au Grand Prix TIM de Saint-Marin et de la Riviera di Rimini, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) aurait pu avoir une course très compliquée après avoir été doublé par Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) et Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40) mais s’est finalement imposé en solitaire, comme il l’avait fait deux semaines plus tôt à Silverstone.

                 

Alors qu’il avait réussi à distancer Zarco en suivant Aegerter, Rins a commis une très coûteuse erreur en tentant de dépasser le Suisse au freinage dans le septième tour et a provoqué la chute des deux en percutant sa roue arrière. 

Zarco reprenait ainsi la première position et a ensuite petit à petit creusé l’écart sur le reste de ses adversaires pour s’imposer avec quatre secondes d’avance, remporter une troisième victoire consécutive, ce qu'il n'avait jamais fait dans sa carrière, et devenir le premier Français à obtenir six victoires en une saison en Grand Prix. 

Avec un total de sept victoires depuis le début de sa carrière (la première obtenue au Japon, en 125cc, en 2011 et les six de cette année), le leader du Championnat du Monde Moto2™ égale par ailleurs le record du nombres de victoires remportées par un Français en Grand Prix, qu’il partage désormais avec Arnaud Vincent, Olivier Jacque et Christian Sarron.

Après leur accrochage, Rins et Aegerter sont repartis en piste, avec un arrêt aux stands pour le Suisse. Rattrapé par Zarco puis par le groupe des poursuivants, Rins a finalement été disqualifié par drapeau noir pour avoir doublé des pilotes avec un tour de retard sur eux. 

                

En difficulté en début de course, Tito Rabat (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) a fait parler son expérience en fin de course, lorsque les pneus arrivaient au bout de leur durée de vie, pour aller décrocher la seconde place juste devant Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia), qui remontait sur le podium pour la première fois depuis le GP de Saint-Marin de 2013. En finissant deuxième derrière Zarco, Rabat reprenait la seconde place au classement général à Rins mais se retrouvait à 93 points du Français.

               

Simone Corsi (Forward Racing), Julián Simón (QMMF Racing) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team) complétaient le Top 6 à l’arrivée. 

Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) a pris la douzième place tandis que Hafizh Syahrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia), proche du Top 3 sur les premiers tours, a perdu en rythme sur la seconde partie de l’épreuve et a fini 18e, devant Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2).

Álex Márquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) et Mika Kallio, qui quitte le team Italtrans Racing, ont abandonné suite à leurs chutes respectives tandis que Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) a vu son pneu arrière exploser après avoir fait le choix de courir sur gomme tendre.

Johann Zarco takes his sixth win of the season from Tito Rabat and Takaaki Nakagami to extend his lead in the standings to 93 points.

Ajo Motorsport’s Zarco took advantage of an early crash between Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) and Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP 40) while they were battling for the lead to take his seventh career victory. In the process Zarco equalled Oliver Jacque, Arnaud Vincent and Christian Sarron in the list of most successful French GP riders of all time. It also meant that Zarco recorded his 12th consecutive podium of the season and the Frenchman can now take the title at Motegi.

                

EG 0,0 Marc VDS’s Tito Rabat recovered from an awful start that saw him drop down to 8th by the end of the first lap to claim his seventh podium of the season. In a race were tyre choice was crucial, Rabat joined Zarco and a number of other riders by opting for the harder rear while the medium seemed to drop off dramatically in the latter stages. Rabat eventually crossed the line 3.850s behind his title rival Zarco in second.

                        

Idemitsu Honda Team Asia’s Takaaki Nakagami (+5.388s) went for the medium rear and was struggling dramatically for grip at the end of the race. The Japanese rider managed to hold on to claim his first podium since Misano in 2013 and the sixth of his GP career.

Forward Racing’s Corsi (+7.058s) crossed the line in fourth ahead of Julian Simon (+9.225s) on the QMMF Racing Speed Up bike. AGR Team’s Jonas Folger also went for the medium rear tyre, and saw his podium challenge fade as the race went on. The German eventually crossed the line in sixth, 10.466s behind the race winner.

Lorenzo Baldassari (Forward Racing) rode superbly with a dislocated right shoulder to finish in seventh, while Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP), Luis Salom (Paginas Amarillas HP40), and Thomas Luthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) completed the top ten.

Rins took out Aegerter while challenging him for the lead on just the second lap. Both riders re-joined, but Rins was black flagged late on in the race after battling with riders while a lap down. Aegerter eventually recovered to finish in 24th.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes was forced to retire from the race after a loose fairing rubbed against his rear tyre forcing it to delaminate.

It was announced before the race that Mika Kallio would be parting ways with the Italtrans Racing Team to join the QMMF Racing Team for 2016. Unfortunately for the 2014 Moto2™ runner-up he then crashed out of the race at turn 8 on just the third lap. There were also crashes for Ricard Cardus, Robin Mulhauser, Alex Marquez, Jesko Raffin and Federico Caricasulo.

Une sixième pole et le record du circuit pour Zarco / Zarco snatches Moto2™ pole from Rins' grasp

Le Français a soufflé la pole à Álex Rins pour deux petits millièmes de seconde.

              

Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a remporté au Grand Prix TIM de Saint-Marin et de la Riviera di Rimini sa sixième pole position en treize courses cette saison et partira donc en tête de la grille à Misano pour faire un nouveau pas en avant vers le titre mondial. 

Leader de la catégorie avec 85 points d’avance sur Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40), le Français a battu l’Espagnol de tout juste deux millièmes de seconde en qualifications tandis que Tito Rabat (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), le Champion en titre, qui n’est qu’à trois points de Rins au général, terminait à exactement un dixième de seconde de la pole pour compléter la première ligne. 

               

En tête de la deuxième ligne, Simone Corsi (Forward Racing) sera le pilote local le mieux placé sur la grille et partira en compagnie de Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) et de Hafizh Syarhrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia).

Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing), Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team) partiront pour leur part de la troisième ligne. 

Tombé dès le début de la séance, Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) sera vingtième sur la grille de départ. Álex Márquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), tombé un peu plus tard, a de son côté pris la 17e position tandis que Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2), qui avait chuté le matin, partira 30e.

Championship leader Johann Zarco takes his 6th pole of season by just 0.002s from Alex Rins with Tito Rabat completing the front row.

Ajo Motorsport’s Johann Zarco left it late to deny Alex Rins pole position by just two-thousandths of second at the GP TIM di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini. The Frenchman took almost a second off Pol Espargaro’s 2013 Pole Record (1’37.666) to set a 1’32.754 with 4 minutes left, the fastest ever time by a Moto2™ bike around the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

               

Paginas Amarillas Rins had been on top of the timesheets for most of the session but had to settle for second behind Zarco as he starts from the front row for the sixth time this season. EG 0,0 Marc VDS’s Rabat (+0.100s) was third fastest as he claimed his 11th front row start of 2015 after the reigning Moto2™ World Champion had earlier topped FP3.

Forward Racing’s Simone Corsi (+0.367s) heads up the second row in his best qualifying performance since Assen. Dominique Aegerter (+0.418s) on the Technomag Racing Interwetten will start from fifth with Petronas Raceline Malaysia’s Hafizh Syahrin (+0.466s) producing his career best Moto2™ qualifying result to complete the second row.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes heads the third row ahead of Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) and Jonas Folger (AGR Team), while Julian Simon (QMMF) completes the top ten.

              

Axel Pons (AGR Team) crashed for the third time on Saturday as he hit the deck at turn 10. There was an incredible incident for wildcard Xavi Vierge (Tech 3) as he crashed coming out of turn 7 and his rider-less bike veered across track twice, luckily missing other riders on track before hitting the barriers.

Zarco s’impose en solitaire à Silverstone/ Zarco takes fifth win of season in Moto2™

Le leader de la catégorie Moto2™ a été intraitable dans une course commencée sur piste mouillée et finie sur le sec.

              

Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a excellé dans des conditions très difficiles au Grand Prix Octo de Grande-Bretagne pour décrocher sa cinquième victoire de la saison, la deuxième consécutive suite à celle de Brno, dans une épreuve que les pilotes avaient commencée sur piste mouillée. 

Concurrencé par Tito Rabat (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40), Álex Márquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team) en début de course, le Français a réalisé un dépassement décisif sur Rins dans le huitième des dix-huit tours de la course et a pris trois secondes et demie d’avance sur ses poursuivants en l’espace de deux tours. 

Alors que la piste séchait et que de nombreux pilotes se retrouvaient en difficulté sur des pneus pluie qui surchauffaient et offraient de moins en moins de grip, Zarco n’a eu qu’à calmement gérer son avance pour s’assurer une victoire indiscutable et poursuivre sa série record avec un onzième podium consécutif.

Vainqueur devant Rins et Rabat, qui a fait une courte sortie de piste en fin de course, Zarco porte son avance au Championnat à 85 points sur Rins, qui repasse devant Rabat, le Champion en titre, désormais à 88 points du Français. Malgré un pneu arrière complètement détruit en fin de course, Rabat a réalisé son meilleur temps sur le dernier tour afin de s’assurer la troisième place.

Après une très bonne course en République Tchèque, Márquez, le Champion du Monde Moto3™ 2014, a confirmé ses récents progrès en finissant à nouveau à la quatrième place, juste derrière Rabat et devant Jonas Folger (AGR Team). 

                

Qualifié en pole position, Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) a manqué son entame de course et a terminé avec une bien décevante sixième place à domicile, alors que les conditions semblaient idéales pour le pilote anglais. 

Autre spécialiste des courses sous la pluie, Anthony West (QMMF Racing) a pris la septième place devant Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP), Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) et Ricky Cardús (JPMoto Malaysia), dixième avec trois secondes d’avance sur son ancien coéquipier Marcel Schrötter (Tech3 Racing).

Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2) a dû passer aux stands en début de course en raison d’un problème technique et est reparti sans changer de pneus pour finir en 27e position. 

Florian Alt (E-Motion IodaRacing Team) a été le seul pilote à miser sur les pneus slicks dès le début de la course et s’est arrêté juste avant Rossi, un pari qui n’a pas fonctionné puisque le jeune Allemand a terminé à la 24e place, devant Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2), lui aussi passé sur slicks un peu plus tard.

Johann Zarco extends his championship lead after a commanding race win in the wet, with Alex Rins and Tito Rabat completing the podium.

Ajo Motorsport’s Johann Zarco made it 11 podiums in a row and extended his lead in the Moto2™ World Championship standings after taking a commanding win during a wet race at the Octo British Grand Prix. The Frenchman crossed the line 3.360s ahead of Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins, with Tito Rabat on the EG 0,0 Marc VDS Kalex completing the podium.

Heavy rain during the morning’s Warm Up session saw all the riders line up on the grid with wet tyres but it had stopped by the time the lights went out, leading to a dramatic and tense race. Frenchman Zarco showed that he was the master in the wet as he managed to preserve his tyres when a dry racing line appeared while many others struggled.

Zarco, starting from 3rd on the grid, was involved in an excellent early battle with Rabat and Rins with the three riders swapping the lead numerous times. On the second lap Zarco and Rabat almost touched, with Zarco running wide and dropping back to fifth. It took him until lap seven to work his way back to the front and take the lead. Zarco immediately set about creating a gap at the front as the others seemed to suffer from greater tyre degradation. By lap thirteen the gap between Zarco and second placed Rabat had reached 8 seconds.  There was a slight scare for the championship leader as Rins started to close him down in the final stages but he responded to take his 6th career GP victory by a comfortable margin.

               

Rookie Rins came out on top in an excellent scrap for second between himself, and the two EG 0,0 Marc VDS Kalex’s off Rabat and Alex Marquez. Rins made a move with 5 laps to go to secure second for his own, leapfrogging Rabat in the championship standings in the process.

              

Rabat (+5.527s) had led into the first corner and looked liked he could match the pace of Zarco in the early stages of the race, but after 8 laps you could visually see the rubber flying off his tyres. The reigning Moto2™ World Champion ran wide while fighting with his teammate Marquez for third on the penultimate lap, but managed to recover to take third and secure his fifth podium of the season.

Marquez (+6.489s) came from ninth on the gird to take his second fourth position in a row ahead of AGR Team’s Jonas Folger (+8.228s). Pole man and local hero, Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes, had a terrible start and was down in eighth by the end of the first lap. The British rider responded in front of his passionate home fans and fought back to cross the line in sixth.

             

Australian wet race specialist Anthony West (QMMF Racing) fought his way from 22nd on the grid to claim seventh. Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP), Thomas Luthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten), and Ricard Cardus (JP Moto Malaysia) completed the top ten.

There were crashes for wildcard Bradley Ray (FAB-Racing), Forward Racing duo Lorenzo Baldassari and Simone Corsi, plus Thitipong Warokorn (APH PTT The Pizza SAG).

Zarco triomphe à Brno et creuse à nouveau l’écart en Moto2™ / Dominant Zarco takes 4th Moto2™ win of the season

Le Français s’est imposé en solitaire au Grand Prix bwin de République Tchèque et compte désormais 79 points d’avance en Moto2™.

               

Qualifié en pole position pour la cinquième fois de l’année, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a réalisé une véritable démonstration de force en course à Brno lors de la onzième manche de la saison Moto2™ 2015 et s’est imposé avec autorité pour remporter une quatrième victoire cette année et un dixième podium consécutif. 

Suite au holeshot du Suisse Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten), le Français a rapidement repris la première position pour faire la différence et ensuite entretenir une avance d’environ une seconde jusqu’au drapeau à damier. 

                   

Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS), le Champion en titre, a perdu un peu temps avant de doubler Lüthi et Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40) et a ensuite fait de son mieux pour rattraper le Français mais a dû se contenter de la seconde place, un résultat tout de même important après son abandon en Allemagne et sa cinquième place à Indianapolis. 

Vainqueur à Indy une semaine plus tôt, le rookie espagnol Álex Rins s’est assuré un nouveau podium en prenant la troisième place. Rabat lui reprend cependant la seconde place au classement général. Les deux Espagnols se retrouvent respectivement à 79 et 80 points de Zarco, qui a continuellement creusé l’écart sur les cinq dernières courses et est le premier pilote de l’histoire du Moto2™ à réaliser une série de dix podiums consécutifs.

Parti septième après sa meilleure qualification en date en Moto2™, Álex Márquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) a confirmé en prenant la quatrième place, le premier résultat notable du Champion du Monde Moto3™ 2014 dans la catégorie intermédiaire. 

                

En perte de rythme à partir de la mi-course, Lüthi a quant à lui fini septième, derrière Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team), tandis que Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) prenait la huitième place, juste derrière le Suisse. 

Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) a fini seizième, derrière le vice-Champion Mika Kallio (Italtrans Racing). 

Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2) et Xavier Vierge, récente recrue de Tech3 Racing, ont quant à eux été contraints à l’abandon.

Johann Zarco extends his lead in the Moto2™ championship standings after taking a commanding victory ahead of Rabat and Rins.

Ajo Motorsports Johann Zarco extended his lead in the Moto2™ World Championship standings after taking his fourth victory of the season at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky. Zarco eventually crossed the line 1.421s ahead of Tito Rabat on the EG 0,0 Marc VDS Kalex, with Paginas Amarillas HP40’s rookie Alex Rins (+1.785s) completing the podium.

The sun had come out for the Moto2™ race with track temperatures reaching 38˚C at the iconic Automotodrom Brno but it was Zarco who would shine in front of the passionate Czech fans. The Frenchman took the lead on just the second lap and after Rabat had a huge moment at turn 9, he went onto open up a 1-second lead at the front. Zarco managed this gap perfectly to take the race win and extend his lead in the Moto2™ standings to 79 points.

                

Rabat crossed the line in second, after a great start that saw him lead into the first corner. The Spaniard then lost at least three-tenths of a second after his near highside at turn 9 and try as he might, he simply could not make any meaningful dent into Zarco’s lead. Rabat looked comfortable through the race, but found himself coming under the attention of Rins on the final lap. Rins had chosen the harder rear tyre, and appeared to have better grip as the riders worked their way through the final few corners. It looked like he was lining up a move into the final chicane, but Rabat managed to hold him off to cross the line 0.364s ahead of his compatriot. This meant that Rabat moves up to second in the championship standings at the expense of Rins.

                

Rabat’s teammate Alex Marquez (+2.608s) completed his best result of the season in fourth. The reigning Moto3™ World Champion beating his previous best placed finishes of 8th at Jerez and Assen after an excellent battle early on with his old Moto3™ rival Rins.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes (+7.844s) recovered from having to start in 13th to finish in 5th. The British rider experienced technical issues in Qualifying and was forced to fight his way through the pack during the race in a case of damage limitation to secure 11 championship points.

               

AGR Team’s Jonas Folger (8.056s) finished in sixth, ahead of the Derendinger Racing Interwetten Kalex of Thomas Luthi in seventh. Luthi had actually led the race on the first lap, but found himself dropping back through the field as the race progressed.

Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP), Luis Salom (Paginas Amarillas HP40), and Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing team) completed the top ten. Robin Mulhauser, Lorenzo Baldassari, Florian Alt, Louis Rossi and Xavi Vierge all recorded DNF’s.

Zarco (224pts) now leads the Moto2™ championship standings by 71 points from Tito Rabat (145pts), with Alex Rins (144pts) in third.

Zarco en pole pour la cinquième fois de l’année à Brno / Zarco claims 5th pole of the season

Le Français a battu les Espagnols Tito Rabat et Álex Rins d’un quart de seconde en qualifications.

               

Seulement huitième de la troisième séance d’essais libres samedi matin en République Tchèque, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport) a très vite rattrapé sa journée en qualifications et a battu le record du circuit de Brno dès son cinquième tour, avec un chrono de 2’01.614. 

Le Français, leader de la catégorie avec 71 points d’avance, n’a ensuite pas été inquiété par Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) et Álex Rins (Páginas Amarillas HP 40), qui, malgré leurs efforts, n’ont pu se rapprocher qu’à un quart de seconde de la pole position et ont respectivement pris les seconde et troisième positions, séparés de seulement 0.028s. 

                

À l’instar de Zarco, Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) et Tom Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) ont signé leurs meilleurs tours respectifs dès le début de la séance et ont terminé aux quatrième et cinquième places, devant Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten), sixième à 0.828s de Zarco. 

Septième, le Champion du Monde Moto3™ 2014 Álex Márquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) réalisait sa meilleure qualification depuis son arrivée dans la catégorie Moto2™ et finissait devant Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing), Axel Pons (AGR Team) et Jonas Folger (AGR Team).

              

Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) devra se contenter d’un départ en 13e position après une défaillance de sa suspension arrière. 

Plutôt bien parti depuis le début du week-end, Louis Rossi (Tasca Racing Scuderia Moto2) a chuté en début de séance et sera vingtième sur la grille de départ, derrière Xavier Siméon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) et devant Marcel Schrötter (Tech3 Racing).

Johann Zarco makes it five pole positions this season as he finishes on top of the timesheets ahead of Tito Rabat and Alex Rins.

          

Ajo Motorsports Johann Zarco secured his fifth pole position of the season in ideal conditions at the bwin Grand Prix Ceské Republiky. The Frenchman who currently enjoys a 71-point lead in the Moto2™ World Championship set a 2’01.614 to break Tito Rabat’s 2014 pole record (2’01.911) in the process.

               

Zarco finished 0.259s ahead of Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS’s Rabat, with the Spaniard missing out on pole after leading the way in FP3 earlier. Rabat also went under his pole record from last year as the top four riders all set times under the 2’02 barrier.

Indianapolis race winner, Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins (+0.287s), completes the front row. Rins was just 0.028s off the pace of Rabat and it should be an incredible battle between these three on Sunday.

Dynavolt Intact GP’s Sandro Cortese (+0.376s) will start from the front of the second row in fourth as he matched his best qualifying performance of the season (Qatar).  Derendinger Racing Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi (+0.464s) was fifth fastest, ahead of his compatriot Dominique Aegerter (+0.828s) on the Technomag Racing Interwetten Kalex.

Reigning Moto3™ World Champion Alex Marquez (Paginas Amarillas HP40) put in his best qualifying performance of the season and will start from seventh.

Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team), Axel Pons (AGR Team) and his teammate Jonas Folger complete the top ten with the returning Forward Racing’s Lorenzo Baldassari and Simone Corsi in 11th and 12th respectively.

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes will be forced to start the race from 13th, his worst qualifying performance of the season, after his suspension collapsed and he was forced to miss the last ten minutes of the session.
