Márquez ajoute Misano à son tableau de chasse / Marquez: "I thought OK, now it’s time to change tyres!"

L’Espagnol a remporté l’épreuve de la catégorie reine à Misano pour la première fois suite à une course extrêmement mouvementée.

              

Dans le Top 3 dès le départ de la course en compagnie de Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) et de Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) a été le seul des trois favoris à finir sur le podium du Grand Prix TIM de Saint-Marin et de la Riviera di Rimini. 

Après un premier arrêt réalisé en même temps que Lorenzo et Rossi, Márquez a été le premier des trois à reprendre la direction de la pit-lane en fin de course suite à une décision qui lui a valu de s’imposer assez aisément sur les derniers tours tandis que Lorenzo était loin derrière après son deuxième arrêt et est tombé une fois repassé sur pneus slick. Dernier pilote à réaliser le deuxième arrêt, Rossi a fini à plus de trente secondes de Márquez, un écart confirmant la bonne décision de l'Espagnol.

Marc Márquez :

« J’étais derrière les Yamaha et j’essayais de voir comment étaient les pneus. J’ai vu que ceux de Lorenzo et de Rossi se dégradaient puis quand ma moto a commencé à bouger et que je perdais trop de temps, je me suis dit qu’il fallait rentrer aux stands. Quand j’ai changé de moto, j’ai vu que la piste était sèche. L’asphalte est neuf et sombre, si bien qu’il était très dur de voir où la piste était mouillée ou non. Mais c’est génial d’être à nouveau sur le podium. L’objectif était la victoire et nous sommes vraiment contents ! »

Marquez overcame the changeable weather conditions to claim the top spot on the podium at the San Marino GP.

The San Marino Grand Prix offered a totally unpredictable MotoGP™ race, in which Marc Marquez took advantage of opportunity to achieve his fourth win of the season, following victories at Austin, Sachsenring and Indianapolis. The current MotoGP™ World Champion managed the situation flawlessly when required to make two bike changes during the Misano round.

As it happened two weeks ago in England, rain appeared at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli just moments before the start of the MotoGP™ race. It did so timidly and all riders took the start on slicks, with Jorge Lorenzo, Marquez, Valentino Rossi and Pedrosa in the first four positions. However, only a few laps later the riders decided to come into the pits to change bikes –returning to the track with their machines for wet conditions.

On completely wet asphalt, the protagonists were the same, with Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi and Marquez at the front and Pedrosa losing ground after the bike change. However, the rain died down, the asphalt dried up quickly and several riders decided to change their bikes again.

Marquez was the first of the trio to do so and achieved an advantage that proved definitive. Rossi and Lorenzo decided to wait two more laps to change bikes, with Lorenzo crashing out and Rossi placing fifth. Bradley Smith and Scott Redding joined Marquez on the podium.

With this victory, Marc Marquez has now only failed to win at Phillip Island and Motegi in the premier class. He remains third in the World Championship with 184 points. Dani Pedrosa is seventh with 109 points. Next up, the series heads to Spain for the third time this season, to celebrate the fourteenth round of the year: the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon on the 27th September.

Marc Marquez: “It was a very strange race but I'm happy with the end result. It is difficult to explain everything that happened during the race but I think the key was the second tyre change – from wets to slicks. That was where we made a difference and – believe it or not – it was not me who decided everything! The team informed me of the situation with the pit board and helped me decide when to come in to change bikes, and I have to thank them! Also Honda, because we keep working and doing our best, even though our title chances are slim, so our target to the end of the year remains; the more wins, the better!

I was close behind the Yamaha to try and see how the asphalt and tyres were. I saw Lorenzo and Rossi had a lot of degradation and then I saw my bike started to move and I was losing so much time so I thought 'OK, it’s time to change'. When I changed I saw the track dry. The asphalt is new and dark so it’s really hard to see where is wet. But it’s really nice to be on the podium again. The target was victory so we’re really happy!"

Le MotoGP™ vient à peine d’atterrir à Silverstone que Jorge Lorenzo menace déjà de s’offrir une sixième victoire en solitaire…

          

Présent dans le paddock MotoGP™ depuis près de vingt ans en tant que reporter pour Motorcycle News, Matthew Birt rejoint l’équipe de motogp.com pour la saison 2015 afin de vous proposer des news exclusives ainsi qu’une opinion venant du coeur du paddock.

Jorge Lorenzo est parvenu à prendre un avantage décisif dès le départ à cinq reprises cette année, pour ensuite mener sans être inquiété par ses adversaires durant un total de 125 tours sur les épreuves de Jerez, du Mans, du Mugello, de Catalunya et de Brno.

À Brno, l’Espagnol a remporté sa 38e victoire en MotoGP™ et égalait Casey Stoner à la quatrième place du classement des plus grands vainqueurs de la catégorie reine. Lorenzo fait donc désormais partie des géants et seuls Mick Doohan, Giacomo Agostini et Valentino Rossi ont remporté plus de victoires en catégorie reine.

            

Mais ce qu’il y a d’intéressant dans ces 38 victoires, c’est que 50% d’entre elles ont été remportées en menant la course du départ à l’arrivée (merci au Dr Martin Raines pour les chiffres).

Nous savons aussi tous à quel point Lorenzo est le maître absolu lorsqu’il s’agit s’imposer à la première place dès le départ pour ensuite asséner à coups de marteau un rythme d’une régularité à faire pâlir ses adversaires.

Mais je crois que je n’ai jamais suffisamment su apprécier sa façon de mettre en oeuvre son plan d’attaque. À titre de comparaison, Rossi, son principal rival pour le titre, n’a mené de bout en bout que deux fois sur ses 85 victoires en catégorie reine. Soit trois de moins en quinze ans que ce que Lorenzo a fait en trois mois !

Marc Márquez a lui aussi mené du départ à l’arrivée deux fois sur ses 22 victoires en MotoGP, au Circuit of the Americas et à Jerez, en 2014, lors d’une année qu’il allait terminer avec un incroyable record de 13 victoires.

Il faut remonter bien plus loin pour retrouver la dernière victoire totale de Rossi, qui date de 2007, à Jerez, tandis que la première avait été remportée à Estoril en 2004.

Le fait que Lorenzo ait réussi à survoler cinq des onze premières courses de la saison peut déjà être source d’inquiétude pour les fans de Rossi et de Márquez.

               

Lorenzo a mené durant 168 tours sur 276 en 2015, un chiffre incroyable lorsqu’on prend en compte qu’il avait mené durant 169 tours sur l’ensemble de la saison en 2010 pour décrocher son premier titre MotoGP. Et il n’est qu’à cinq tours du total de sa saison 2012, celle de son deuxième titre. Et nous avons encore sept courses devant nous.

La prochaine a lieu à Silverstone et on peut facilement imaginer Lorenzo remporter une sixième victoire en dominant la course de bout en bout en Angleterre.

Le Majorquin s’est imposé trois fois en cinq courses sur le tracé extrêmement rapide et très technique de Silverstone et ses deux dernières performances après la trêve estivale ont mis énormément de pression sur Rossi.

Ce week-end, la tête du classement général est en jeu entre les deux mais je pense sincèrement qu’il s’agira surtout de limiter les dégâts pour Rossi.

Sachant que l’épreuve suivante aura lieu chez lui à Misano, Rossi voudra rester le plus proche possible de Lorenzo. Ce dernier a déjà démontré à plusieurs reprises son affinité avec le circuit de Silverstone et nombreux sont ceux qui pensent qu’il est désormais capable de gagner avec aisance à chaque fois qu’il se retrouvera face à une piste libre.

Lorsqu’il s’agit de bagarre, on a constaté à plusieurs reprises que Lorenzo n’était pas aussi enclin à aller frotter son carénage contre ceux de ses adversaires que Rossi et Márquez.

Mais Lorenzo avait aussi démontré à Silverstone en 2013 qu’il n’était pas seulement bon à s’imposer en solitaire et s’était alors offert une superbe victoire en réussissant une manoeuvre osée sur Márquez juste avant le dernier virage.

L’ennemi le plus dangereux pour Lorenzo ce week-end sera peut-être la météo britannique.

On se rappelle à quel point il avait souffert la saison dernière aux Pays-Bas et à Valence après s’être fracturé la clavicule sous la pluie d’Assen en 2013.

La pluie pourrait être un sérieux obstacle pour Lorenzo. Pour Rossi et Márquez, elle pourrait être un allié de taille.

               

If Jorge Lorenzo manages to fire his Yamaha YZR-M1 into the lead at Silverstone’s first corner on Sunday then be afraid, be very afraid.

Five times this season we have witnessed Lorenzo blitz off the line to take an early lead and in 125 laps of action in Jerez, Le Mans, Mugello, Catalunya and Brno, nobody got close to showing the Spaniard a front wheel.

Brno was his 38th win in MotoGP and moved him level with Casey Stoner in the all-time winning list. Lorenzo is now standing with giants, with only Mick Doohan, Giacomo Agostini and Valentino Rossi winning more races in the premier class.

What I find intriguing about Lorenzo’s 38 wins is that 50% have been achieved by him leading over the line at the end of every lap (thanks for that nugget, Dr Martin Raines).

We all know how Lorenzo is the absolute master at hitting the front early before settling into a fast and consistent rhythm that eventually hammers his rivals into submission.

But I guess I’d never fully appreciated how damn good he is at executing his line of attack.

Compare that record to current main title rival Rossi, the Italian has led over the line for every single lap in just two of his 85 MotoGP victories. That’s three less in 15 years than Lorenzo has managed in the last three months!

Marc Marquez has also only managed to lead across the line in every lap of his 22 MotoGP victories in two races. Both were in his record-smashing romp to 13 wins in 2014 when he dominated proceedings at the Circuit of the Americas and Jerez.

You have to go back a lot further to find the two battles that Rossi won without anybody passing him from lights out to the chequered flag. Estoril back in 2004 was his first flag-to-flag triumph, but his last was eight years ago at Jerez in 2007.

The fact that Lorenzo has already managed it five times in 11 races this season alone will probably send shivers down the spine of any Rossi or Marquez fan.

              

He’s led for 168 of 276 laps in 2015, which is looking ominous when you consider that’s just one short of the entire tally he recorded on his way to winning his first MotoGP title in 2010. And it is just five shy of the total laps he led when lifting the crown again in 2012. And we still have seven races remaining.

Silverstone is up next and you wouldn’t put it past him making it a sixth start-to-finish success of 2015 on Sunday.

Three wins from five starts at the super fast and technical track is by far the best of anybody else, and his two performances since the summer break have heaped big pressure on Rossi.

The outright lead is at stake this weekend between and to be honest I think it will be damage limitation for Rossi again.

With his home race in Misano next on the title run-in, Rossi will be keen to remain within striking distance of Lorenzo, knowing full well that Lorenzo would appear to hold the aces at Silverstone.

He has shown his full repertoire of skills at Silverstone in the past. Many think he’s become a one-trick pony who can only win with ease when he’s got clear track in front of him.

               

When it comes to a good old fashioned carve up it has been said numerous times that Lorenzo is not as ruthless and willing to trade paint like old school scrappers Rossi and Marquez.

Lorenzo showed at Silverstone in 2013 that there’s more to his game than just breaking away at the front when a daring late overtake gave him a sweet last-gasp win over Marquez.

Perhaps Lorenzo’s biggest enemy this weekend will be the unpredictable British weather.

Remember how the demons of his collarbone-smashing crash in the wet at Assen in 2013 returned to haunt him last season in tricky conditions in Holland and Valencia?

Rain could be a massive pain for Lorenzo. For Rossi and Marquez it could be heaven sent.

Auteur d’un nouveau record du circuit en qualifications, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) a brillamment accompli sa mission dans une course qu’il a mené de bout en bout après un excellent départ qui lui avait permis de rester devant Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda). 

Vainqueur une semaine plus tôt à Indianapolis, où il avait suivi le Majorquin avant de le doubler à trois tours de l’arrivée, le Champion en titre a essayé d’à nouveau prendre la roue de Lorenzo sur la piste tchèque mais n’était cette fois-ci pas au niveau de son rival et s’est progressivement fait distancer pour compter jusqu’à trois secondes de retard à cinq tours de l’arrivée. 

                 

Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) s’était félicité d’avoir assuré sa présence en première ligne mais a malheureusement manqué son départ et a perdu du temps dès le premier tour en se faisant devancé par Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) et Andrea Dovizioso (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP). 

Parti sur gomme dure à l’avant comme à l’arrière alors que son coéquipier avait chois les pneus medium, Rossi avait déjà plus de deux secondes de retard lorsqu’il est revenu à la troisième place et n’a pu que poursuivre sa course en solitaire pour s’assurer un nouveau podium, le onzième en onze courses cette saison, six secondes derrière Márquez. 

Grâce à sa victoire, Lorenzo revenait à égalité de points avec Rossi et s’emparait de la première place du classement général en vertu d’un plus grand nombre de victoires : 5 pour l’Espagnol contre 3 pour l’Italien. Le double Champion du Monde prenait d’autre part sa revanche sur Márquez, désormais relégué à 52 points, après avoir perdu son duel contre son compatriote à Indianapolis mais mettait aussi fin à l’hégémonie de Honda à Brno, où la marque japonaise s’était imposée ces quatre dernières années. 

                  

Andrea Iannone (Ducati) a quant à lui pris une belle quatrième place qui lui permettait de prolonger son record de régularité puisque l’Italien a jusqu’ici fini toutes les courses de la saison 2015 dans le Top 10. Mis sous pression par Andrea Dovizioso par moment, Iannone a pu prendre de l’avance en fin de course lorsque son coéquipier a été rattrapé par Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), parti neuvième et victime d’une lourde chute le vendredi. L’Espagnol s’est battu jusqu’au bout pour arracher la cinquième place à l’Italien, battu de 0.075s. 

                

Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar) et Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing) figuraient aussi dans le Top 10 à l’arrivée tandis que Loris Baz (Avintia Racing) a pris le point de la quinzième place. Une excellente opération pour le rookie français, qui avait manqué l’épreuve d’Indianapolis et revenait ainsi à cinq points d’Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing), le leader de la catégorie Open, qui a fini une seconde derrière.

                 

Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) a quant à lui fini en dix-huitième position et repartira à la conquête des points à la fin du mois à Silverstone, du 28 au 30 août, lors du Grand Prix Octo de Grande-Bretagne.

Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo put on a master class to take his 5th victory of the season at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky.

Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo emerged victorious from the ‘Battle of Brno’ after an imperious ride at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky. The Spaniard was untouchable during the race as he went on to take the win by 4.462s from Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez, with his teammate Valentino Rossi in third. Lorenzo now sits on top of the MotoGP™ World Championship standings, level on points with Rossi, after taking his 5th win of the season.

Conditions were almost perfect for the MotoGP™ race at the 5.2km Automotodrom Brno, with the sun shining and track temperatures approaching 42˚C. Over 138,000 fans had packed into the grandstands at the iconic track to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first GP at Brno, and the scene was set perfectly for a showdown between the top three riders in the championship standings. Adding to the intrigue was the fact that all three riders had gone for different tyre choices. Lorenzo on a medium front and rear, Rossi on a hard front and rear, and Marquez with a medium front and hard rear.

Any hopes of a dramatic three-way battle between Lorenzo, Marquez and Rossi were dashed almost immediately, as Rossi got bogged down at the start. The Italian had worked hard during practice and qualifying to ensure that he didn’t let Marquez and Lorenzo disappear at the start of the race as in Indianapolis. It was all to be for nothing though, as he found himself down in fifth at the first corner.

Lorenzo and Marquez immediately opened a gap at the front, which had increased to 1.5 seconds at the end of the first lap. Rossi found himself held up behind Andrea Dovizioso, and by the time he got past on the second lap, the gap to his rivals was already over two seconds.

Marquez was matching the pace of Lorenzo and they were both lapping almost 0.5s a lap quicker than Rossi and after six laps the gap was up to 4 seconds. Lorenzo even started to pull away from Marquez, opening up a half of a second gap over his compatriot by lap 9. This had increased to two seconds by lap 12, with Lorenzo once again managing the gap perfectly as no one had an answer to his electric pace. The two-time MotoGP™ World Champion went on to take his 38th MotoGP™ victory by the comfortable margin of 4 .4 seconds from Marquez. Rossi eventually crossed the line 10.397s behind Lorenzo to finish third, and continuing his run of having finished on the podium at every race this season.

Ducati Team’s Andrea Iannone (+13.071s) finished in fourth as he was involved in an excellent battle towards the end of the race with his teammate Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda). Pedrosa, who was nursing a bruised left foot after his highside in FP2, gritted his teeth to work his way up through the field from 9th on the grid. With 6 laps remaining, he caught Iannone and Dovizioso who were involved in a fight of their own and were 4th and 5th respectively at the time.

After Iannone and Dovizioso almost touched, Iannone made a slight break to take fourth, and left his teammate to deal with Pedrosa. Cue an awesome scrap over the last few laps as each rider overtook each other a number of times. Pedrosa (+0.15.650s) made a move up the inside of turn 11 on the final lap and held on to cross the line in fifth ahead of Dovizioso (+15.725s).

Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith once again enjoyed a great start to find himself up into third at the very first corner. Smith could not quite match the pace of the leaders though, and found himself falling back, eventually crossing the line as the leading Satellite rider in 7th. His teammate Pol Espargaro was in eighth, ahead of his brother Aleix on the Team Suzuki Ecstar in ninth, with Octo Pramac Racing’s Danilo Petrucci completing the top ten.

Petrucci’s teammate Yonny Hernandez followed him across the line in 11th, ahead of Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS Racing) and the two Factory Aprilia’s of Stefan Bradl (13th) and Alvaro Bautista (14th)

Forward Racing’s Loris Baz pulled off the perfect result for his team on their return after being forced to miss the Indianapolis GP due to financial issues. The Frenchman crossed the line in 15th to take the Open class victory by less than a second from Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera in 16th. Nicky Hayden (Aspar MotoGP Team) was next across the line in 17th as the leading Open class Honda.

There were crashes for Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team), Cal Crutchlow (CWM LR Honda) and Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) while Alex De Angelis (E-Motion IodaRacing Team) was forced to retire.

Lorenzo’s win sees him replace his teammate Rossi at the top of the MotoGP™ World championship standings. Although both are on 211 points, Lorenzo has the advantage as he has won five races compared to Rossi’s three. Marc Marquez (159pts) remains in third, 52 points behind the two Movistar Yamaha teammates.

Le rêve américain continue pour Márquez / Marquez wins epic duel with Lorenzo

Márquez s’est imposé pour la cinquième année d’affilée à Indianapolis et pour la septième fois en sept courses MotoGP™ aux Etats-Unis.

           

Malgré une première moitié de saison compliquée, Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) continue d’établir de nouveaux records au long de sa troisième année en MotoGP™ et a étoffé un palmarès déjà exceptionnel aux Etats-Unis en s’imposant devant Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) au Grand Prix Red Bull d’Indianapolis. 

Qualifié en pole position pour la dixième manche de la saison 2015, le Champion du Monde en titre a suivi son compatriote durant la quasi-totalité de la course pour s’échapper avec lui et a sagement attendu d’être à trois tours du drapeau à damier pour attaquer et s’assurer une cinquième victoire consécutive à l’Indianapolis Motor Speedway, où il s’était imposé depuis la pole ces deux dernières années en MotoGP™ et avait aussi gagné en Moto2™ en 2011 et 2012. Márquez demeurait ainsi invaincu sur le territoire américain depuis 2011, n’ayant jamais manqué la première place aux Etats-Unis depuis son arrivée dans la catégorie reine, que ce soit à Austin, à Laguna Seca, qui ne figure plus au calendrier, ou à Indianapolis.

Vaincu au bout d’un duel titanesque après avoir mené durant 24 des 27 tours, Lorenzo affirmait dans le parc fermé sa satisfaction d’avoir réalisé une course quasi-parfaite, en ayant maintenu un rythme exceptionnel et avec au final un très faible déficit de rythme par rapport à Márquez, plus frais en fin de course après s’être contenté de suivre le Majorquin. Ce dernier se rapprochait néanmoins un peu plus de la première place du classement général, occupée par son coéquipier Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP). 

Huitième sur la grille de départ et visiblement en difficulté lors des deux premières journées, l’Italien n’a comme d’habitude pas manqué de se montrer compétitif pour la course et s’est battu en duel avec Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) pour la troisième place. Doublé par l’Espagnol à l’ouverture du dernier tour, Rossi a su répliquer pour s’assurer la troisième place et ainsi prolonger sa série de podiums avec un quatorzième Top 3 consécutif en comptant les quatre derniers de la saison 2014. Le nonuple Champion du Monde limitait ainsi les dégâts au classement général et conservait neuf points d’avance sur Lorenzo. 

Grâce à sa seconde victoire d’affilée après celle remportée en Allemagne avant la trêve estivale, Márquez remontait quant à lui à la troisième place du classement général, à 56 points de Rossi et avec dix longueurs d’avance sur Andrea Iannone (Ducati), qui finissait de nouveau en solitaire derrière les prétendants au podium, en cinquième position, à une quinzaine de secondes de Rossi et Pedrosa. 

Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) a nettement battu son coéquipier Pol Espargaró, qui a été confirmé chez Tech3 pour 2016, en finissant huit secondes devant lui, à la sixième place, tandis que Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda), Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), qui était hors du Top 12 dans le premier tour, et Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing) complétaient le Top 10 à l’arrivée. 

Jack Miller (CWM LCR Honda) est tombé en début de course alors qu’il était le pilote Open le mieux classé. La victoire Open est ainsi revenue à Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing), quinzième devant Nicky Hayden (Aspar MotoGP Team) et Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing). 

Stefan Bradl (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) a quant à lui fini sa première course sur la RS-GP à la vingtième place, loin derrière Álvaro Bautista (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) et Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team) et avec un rien d’avance sur Alex de Angelis (E-Motion IodaRacing Team) et Toni Elías, qui remplaçait Karel Abraham (AB Motoracing).

Le Championnat du Monde MotoGP™ 2015 continue la semaine prochaine, du 14 ay 16 août, à Brno pour le Grand Prix bwin de République Tchèque.

Marc Marquez maintains his incredible record on US soil to take victory at the Indianapolis GP after a race long battle with Jorge Lorenzo.

             

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez made it five wins in a row (2x Moto2™, 3x MotoGP™) at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway after an epic race long duel with Jorge Lorenzo (+0.688s) on the Movistar Yamaha. Championship leader Valentino Rossi (+5.278s) maintained his 100% podium record this season to finish in third, and remain on top of the standings by nine points.

After the Moto3™ and Moto2™ races were declared wet earlier in the day, conditions had improved by the time the MotoGP™ riders took to the grid and luckily, apart from a few spots of rain, it remained dry throughout the race. It was Lorenzo who would lead into the first corner from pole man Marquez, and it wouldn’t take long for these two to break away at the front of the field, opening up a second gap by the end of lap 8. The 68,000 fans present at the ‘Brickyard’ then bore witness to some incredible riding between the two Spaniards, as lap after lap Marquez ominously stalked Lorenzo.

The reigning MotoGP™ World Champion Marquez bided his time, sitting behind Lorenzo and studying his strengths and weaknesses before finally making his move with just three laps to go into turn 1. Lorenzo had no response and Marquez pulled the pin to cross the line over half a second ahead of his compatriot, taking Honda’s 700th GP victory in the process. It was also the 9th race in a row that Marquez has won on US Soil and the first time he has achieved back-to-back victories this season.

Rossi started from 8th on the grid but after a sensational opening lap he was up into fourth and hunting down Pedrosa for the final podium spot. The Italian was made to rue his poor Qualifying performance, as while he could match the pace of Marquez and Lorenzo at the front, he could not make any meaningful dent in the gap to the leaders. Rossi finally managed to overtake Pedrosa into turn 1 on lap 18, although the diminutive Spaniard was having none of it and after recovering he managed to re-take third, setting up a dramatic last lap showdown. On the last lap Pedrosa overtook Rossi into turn 1, but ‘The Doctor’ fought back immediately and made it stick, managing to hold on to cross the line 0.181s ahead of Pedrosa (+6.147s).

Ducati Team’s Andrea Iannone (+21.528s) was a further 15 seconds back in fifth as he managed to hold off a hard-charging Bradley Smith (+21.751s) on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 towards the end of the race. The Italian, celebrating his 26th Birthday, eventually crossed the line just 0.223s ahead of the Brit.

Smith, starting from 9th on the grid, once again enjoyed a brilliant start and found himself as high as 5th after the first few corners. Unfortunately he would run wide at turn 10 on the first lap and be forced to fight his way back through the field. He had to settle for sixth. His teammate Pol Espargaro was a further 8.627s further back in seventh.

CWM LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow had an eventful race, dropping down to 11th after almost clipping the back of Smith at the start of the race. He had to fight his way back into the top ten, before eventually crossing the line in eighth.

Andrea Dovizioso also ran wide on the first lap (turn 2) first lap and found himself down in very last place. The Italian recovered brilliantly and fought back to finish in ninth ahead of the Factory Octo Pramac Racing Ducati of Danilo Petrucci, who completed the top ten.

The Team Suzuki Ecstar GSX-RR’s of Maverick Viñales and Aleix Espargaro were 11th and 14th respectively, with Scott Redding on the EG 0,0 Marc VDS Honda finishing in 13th.

Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera took the Open class victory in 15th ahead of local Hero Nicky Hayden (Aspar MotoGP Team) in 16th and his teammate Eugene Laverty in 19th.

Stefan Bradl finished in 20th on his debut for the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini while CWM LCR Honda’s Jack Miller was the only rider to crash out of the race as he fell foul of turn 6 on lap 9.

All of this means that Rossi (195pts) remains on top of the MotoGP™ World Championship standings, although his lead over second placed Jorge Lorenzo (+186pts) has been cut to just 9 points, with Marquez (139pts) a further 56 points back in third.

MotoGP ; Márquez prend la pole position à Indianapolis / Marquez makes it three out of three

Marc Márquez sera en pole position pour viser une cinquième victoire d’affilée à l’Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

           

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) n’aura pas laissé le suspense durer en qualifications et s’est installé en pole provisoire dès son premier run avant d’ensuite améliorer son meilleur temps pour se confirmer en pole position, sa cinquième cette année et sa troisième consécutive à Indianapolis, où il avait gagné ces deux dernières années en MotoGP™ mais aussi les deux années d’avant en Moto2™.

Invaincu aux Etats-Unis depuis 2012, le Champion en titre partira avec l’avantage de pole pour essayer de remporter une septième victoire consécutive sur le sol américain et a fini les qualifications avec un chrono de 1’31.884, à un peu plus de deux dixièmes du record du circuit qu’il avait établi l’an dernier. 

Son coéquipier Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) et Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) l’accompagneront en première ligne après avoir respectivement terminé à 0.171s et 0.302s de la pole. Premier pilote à sortir de la pit-lane, Lorenzo, dernier pilote ne courant pas sur Honda à avoir gagné à Indy (2009), avait opté pour une stratégie à trois tentatives mais n’a pas pu se montrer aussi rapide que ses concurrents, qui tenteront d’offrir au HRC une sixième victoire consécutive au Brickyard.

                   

Délogé de la première ligne par Lorenzo, Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda) partira finalement en tête de la deuxième, devant Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing), auteur du meilleur temps en Q1 premier pilote Ducati sur la grille, et Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3).

Dixième sur le classement combiné de vendredi, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) demeurait à plus d’une demi-seconde de la première place et s’est qualifié entre Andrea Iannone (Ducati) et Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) sur la troisième ligne. 

                  

Deuxième de la Q1 derrière Petrucci, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) n’a pas pu faire mieux que dixième en Q1, devant Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3), qui est tombé le vendredi comme le samedi, et Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar), douzième à 0.930s de Márquez.

Du côté de la catégorie Open, Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing) conservait l’avantage pris vendredi et s’installait à la quatorzième position sur la grille de départ, derrière Scott Redding (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS). 

                   

Stefan Bradl (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini), qui fait ses débuts sur la RS-GP ce week-end, a devancé son nouveau coéquipier Álvaro Bautista pour prendre la dix-huitième position. 

Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) a de son côté chuté dans le dernier virage du tracé américain en Q1 et partira de la 22e position, devant Toni Elías, qui remplace Karel Abraham (AB Motoracing) ce week-end.

Marc Marquez makes it three pole positions in a row at the Indianapolis Speedway as his teammate Dani Pedrosa completes a Honda 1-2.

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez continued his dominance of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to make it three pole positions in a row at the legendary US circuit. The reigning MotoGP Champion has own the last two races at the circuit from pole position, and signs are ominous that he might do the same this weekend after he was the only rider to break the 1’32 barrier during Q2. The day got even better for Repsol Honda as Dani Pedrosa (+0.171s) managed to finish second fastest and secure a 1-2 on the grid for the Factory Team.

Marquez set a 1’31.884 on his just his second flying lap during the session in near perfect conditions as the sun broke through the clouds and the track temperature reached 40ºC at the ‘Brickyard’. Try as they might, no one else had an answer to the Spaniard’s pace in a frantic end to the session, and it was only Pedrosa who managed to get within three-tenths of the reigning MotoGP™ World Champion.

                

Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo (+0.302s) will start from the back of the front row, as the man second in the MotoGP™ title battle looks to close the 13-point gap in the standings to his teammate Valentino Rossi. Cal Crutchlow (+0.324s) was the leading Satellite rider and will start from the head of the second row in fourth on the CWM LCR Honda.

The big surprise of the session was the pace of Octo Pramac Racing’s Danilo Petrucci (+0.359s), who finished fastest in Q1 and managed to carry that pace into Q2 to start from fifth on the grid as the fastest Ducati. Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith (+0.385s), who had been second fastest overall in practice, will start the race from sixth ahead of the Factory GP15 of Andrea Iannone in seventh.

                  

Current championship leader Valentino Rossi was third on the timesheets with 7 mins to go, but was knocked down to 8th by the end of the session and will have to work hard to try and preserve his advantage in the championship standings on Sunday. The  Italian won’t be panicking just yet though as two of his race win this season (Qatar and Argentina) have both come from 8th on the grid.

Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Maverick Viñales completes the third row in ninth while Andrea Dovizioso on the second GP15 will start from tenth on the grid, with the Italian having to fight his way through Q2 after finishing 11th on the combined timesheets after practice.

Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and his brother Aleix (Team Suzuki Ecstar) make up the rest of the fourth row in 11th and 12th respectively, with less than a second separating the top 12 riders. To give you an indication how close it was, Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) only just missed out on making it through to Q2 by 0.079s and will start from 13th.

                 

Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera was the leading Open class rider in 14th, with Australian Jack Miller (CWM LCR Honda) in 16th. Stefan Bradl (17th) out qualified his teammate Alvaro Bautista (18th) on his debut for Aprilia Racing Team Gresini while the Aspar MotoGP Team duo of Eugene Laverty and Nicky Hayden will start from 19th and 20th on the grid respectively.

MotoGP ; Márquez renoue avec la victoire en Allemagne / Marquez is back

Le Champion en titre passe le cap de la mi-saison en se relançant avec une victoire remportée haut la main au Sachsenring.

        

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) a bouclé une difficile première moitié de saison 2015 de la meilleure des manières au Grand Prix GoPro d’Allemagne, où il s’est offert sa seconde victoire de la saison mais s’imposait en plus depuis la pole position pour la sixième année de suite sur la piste du Sachsenring.

Malgré ses 65 points de retard sur Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) suite à l’épreuve allemande, le Champion du Monde en titre a bel et bien prouvé qu’il était de retour et abordera la trêve estivale en pleine confiance.

             

Devancé par son coéquipier Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) au départ puis par Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) au bout du premier virage, Márquez n’a pas pris de risque en début de course et a attendu le sixième tour pour doubler Lorenzo, au moment où Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) passait devant Pedrosa en troisième position. 

Une fois installé en tête, Márquez a immédiatement fait la différence pour filer vers la victoire en solitaire et remporter un résultat très important pour sa saison 2015 puisqu’il ne s’agissait que de sa deuxième victoire, et quatrième podium, en neuf courses. 

Derrière lui, Lorenzo n’a pas tenu longtemps face à Rossi et Pedrosa et a petit à petit été distancé par les deux. Sur un circuit où il compte quatre victoires en MotoGP™ et qui réussit particulièrement bien à Honda, Pedrosa n’a pas eu de mal à suivre Rossi et a pris l’avantage sur l’Italien à une dizaine de tours de l’arrivée. En finissant deuxième, l’Espagnol obtenait son deuxième podium de l’année et se rassurait après la période de doute qui avait suivi son opération de l’avant-bras droit en début d’année. 

Battu par les deux pilotes Honda, Rossi atteignait quant à lui son objectif de finir devant Lorenzo et repartait d’Allemagne avec treize points d’avance sur son coéquipier à l’issue de la neuvième des dix-huit manches de la saison, contre dix avant la course. 

À quatre secondes de Rossi, Lorenzo manquait le podium mais ne concédait qu’un minimum de points au leader du classement général, qui finissait dans le Top 3 pour la treizième fois de suite. 

Andrea Iannone (Ducati) a fait une course en solitaire pour prendre la cinquième place et n’aura donc jamais manqué le Top 6 sur la première moitié de l’année.

Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda), Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing) et Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar) figuraient aussi dans le Top 10 à l’arrivée. 

             

La victoire en catégorie Open est revenue à Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing), treizième derrière Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) et Yonny Hernández (Octo Pramac Racing) tandis que son coéquipier Mike Di Meglio était contraint à l’abandon en début de course, à l’instar de Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), tombé dans le dernier virage dès le premier tour. 

                

Loris Baz (Athinà Forward Racing) a fini dix-neuvième de sa première course au Sachsenring, devant Michael Laverty, qui court à la place de Marco Melandri dans l’Aprilia Racing Team Gresini.

Hiroshi Aoyama, qui remplaçait Karel Hanika chez AB Motoracing, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), tombé en fin de course, et Claudio Corti, remplaçant de Stefan Bradl (Athinà Forward Racing), n’ont pas pu rallier l’arrivée. 

Le Championnat du Monde MotoGP™ 2015 reprend le 9 août à l’Indianapolis Motor Speedway suite à une courte pause estivale.

Marquez takes his second victory of the season in a Repsol Honda 1-2.

That makes it 6 victories in a row at the Sachsenring for Marc Marquez, all of which were won from pole position.

When Marquez came here a year ago, he was chasing his 9th consecutive win of the season. At this point in 2015 Marquez’s title hopes are weak but the Spaniard’s desire to win is anything but. Now that Marquez appears to be back on form, he’s showing no signs of making things easy for the Movistar Yamaha duo in the second half of the season. Marquez said: "From the beginning I felt good and when I had the gap I just tried to manage it. I'm happy because this weekend we’ve been always first and it has been a long time since I had that. It’s a good result to go on holidays with, but I want to keep getting better."

Dani Pedrosa has a very good record here in Germany too, having won here 6 times in total across MotoGP and 25cc classes. Before the race he said that if he could get a good start and stay at the front for the first few laps, it would make all the difference. This proved to be true as the Spaniard joins team mate Marc Marquez on the podium, securing a 1-2 for the Repsol Honda team. However Pedrosa said the turning point came at half distance: "When the tank emptied at the middle of the race I was comfortable and I went straight past Jorge. Then I went about catching Rossi but he wasn’t easy to pass. On corner exit the Yamaha is strong. Then I made the move and had to push at the end. I had to push a little more than him as he was really trying!"

               

Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) finished in third place, which is enough to increase his championship lead, so Rossi had a lot to be happy about: "I think that Dani had something in his pocket - I was at the limit with a constant rhythm, but at one point he was able to pull out 2 very fast laps, I tried to battle but he was too quick. Anyway it's another podium, I gained 3 points on Jorge [Lorenzo] which is important for the championship. We know that we always suffer here against the Hondas, so we'll wait for a better track for the M1!"

With Rossi's team mate Jorge Lorenzo coming in 4th place, the Movistar Yamaha duo did enough to maintain their positions at the top of the championship standings, with Rossi enjoying a 13 point lead over Lorenzo.

                

Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) claimed 5th position, followed by British riders Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Cal Crutchlow (CWM-LCR Honda) in 6th and 7th respectively.

Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing) and Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar) complete the top 10.

MotoGP ; Un Márquez record s'offre une nouvelle pole au Sachsenring / Marquez secures pole for German GP

Marc Márquez a pulvérisé son propre record du circuit pour décrocher sa sixième pole position consécutive en Allemagne.

           

En pole position et invaincu au Sachsenring depuis 2010, Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) a de nouveau excellé sur le circuit allemand samedi après-midi lors des qualifications pour la neuvième manche de la saison MotoGP™ 2015 et s’est offert une nouvelle pole position, sa quatrième de l’année suite à celles d’Austin, de Termas de Rio Hondo et du Mans. 

Solidement installé en tête de la feuille de temps depuis le début du week-end, le Champion en titre n’a pas eu de rival à sa hauteur dans l’exercice du contre-la-montre et a battu son propre record du circuit, établi en qualifications l’année dernière, de six dixièmes de seconde. 

Son coéquipier Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), vainqueur au Sachsenring quatre fois en MotoGP™, s’est assuré un départ en seconde position et a conclu à près de trois dixièmes de seconde de la pole. 

Seul autre pilote à être passé sous la barre des 1’21, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) n’a pas pu rivaliser avec des Honda extrêmement à l’aise sur le tracé allemand mais sera au moins en première ligne après avoir terminé à trois dixièmes de seconde de Pedrosa. 

                

Andrea Iannone (Ducati) s’est pour sa part installé en tête de la deuxième ligne, devant Yonny Hernández (Octo Pramac Racing), qui avait été le plus rapide en Q1 et a parfaitement réussi sa Q2. Le pilote colombien, cinquième à 0.779s de Márquez, partira devant le leader du Championnat du Monde, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), qui complètera la deuxième ligne après avoir été en pole deux semaines plus tôt à Assen et n’aura donc été en première ligne qu’une seule fois sur la première moitié de la saison 2015. 

Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar), son frère cadet Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3) et Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3), qui avait commencé sa séance en endommageant sa bulle d’un coup de casque suite à un début de highside, seront quant à eux en troisième ligne et étaient les trois derniers pilotes à moins d’une seconde du leader. 

                

Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda), Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) et Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) seront en quatrième ligne.

Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing), treizième devant Scott Redding (Estrella Galicia 0,0), sera le premier pilote Open sur la grille tandis que les Français Loris Baz (Athinà Forward Racing) et Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) partiront respectivement 20e et 21e.

The Repsol Honda rider’s 1’20.336 lap was enough to net him first position on the grid for this weekend’s MotoGP™ battle.

This is Marc Marquez's 6th consecutive pole at the Sachsenring, leading to victory for the Spaniard for the last 5 years in a row. He said: "We will try for six wins, the most important thing is the confidence with the bike is really high. In this circuit I always get good results but this weekend I feel good and I’m constant. I was also fast over one lap so I’m happy, also happy with the work that we have done. Tomorrow is the most important so we have to keep on like this."

Joining him on the front row are his team mate Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha).

               

Second place on the grid is Pedrosa's best qualifying result of the season: "Yeah, I was happy with my first feeling in the first run but Crutchlow didn’t see me and ruined my lap. Unfortunately I had to stop and change tyres and I wasn’t sure if we could do it on the second tyre because sometimes you don’t get the same feeling. Actually I produced a good lap and to get the front row at this track is very important. Hopefully we can make a little step tomorrow as Marquez’s pace is very high and we’re still missing a little. Hopefully we can make a good start and make the right tyre choice, which will be critical."

                 

After starting from 8th in Assen, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha) is back on qualifying form but concerned by the pace show by the Repsol Honda duo: "Impressive, it seems the Honda has no problems. They’re able to brake later and accelerate very soon. It will be tough to stay with them, I am the first Yamaha to do a 1’20 in this track so I am very happy with this lap time. I did my best and I didn’t get even close to them. I think our goal is to try to get the podium, the victory will be difficult but you never know. The podium is definitely achievable."

                   

Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) will start from 4th place, with Yonny Hernández (Octo Pramac Racing) in a very respectable 5th after having to fight his way through Q1. Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) completes the second row in 6th.

                 

The Espargaro brothers will have a chance to wish each other luck before the lights go out, given that they start together on the third row with Aleix (Team Suzuki Ecstar) in 7th and Pol (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) in 8th.

                 

Rounding out the top 10 are British riders Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Cal Crutchlow (CWM-LCR Honda), who start from 9th & 10th respectively.

                

The MotoGP action continues on July 12 at 09:40 local time with the warm up session, with the race to start at 14:00.
