Lorenzo signe un nouveau record du circuit à Misano / Record-breaking Lorenzo heads Friday’s practice

L’Espagnol et son compatriote Marc Márquez ont de nouveau été clairement plus rapides que leurs concurrents vendredi après-midi.

          

Deuxième à 0.094s de Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) le matin alors que les autres pilotes étaient à plus d’une demi-seconde du Champion en titre, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) a réussi à prendre l’avantage vendredi après-midi lors de la seconde séance du Grand Prix TIM de Saint-Marin et de la Riviera di Rimini. 

             

Sur une YZR-M1 équipée d’ailerons latéraux à l’avant du carénage, le Majorquin a établi le nouveau record absolu du circuit en 1’32.871, soit 0.044s de mieux que l’ancien record, signé par Márquez en 2013. Ce dernier a conclu la deuxième séance à tout juste 0.053s de Lorenzo et avait déjà eu l’occasion de rouler sur le nouveau revêtement de Misano lors d’un test privé organisé cet été.

Lui aussi présent pour ces essais privés, son coéquipier Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) a terminé troisième, à 0.387s de Lorenzo, devant les Italiens Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) et Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), qui finissait à 0.598s de son coéquipier, sur qui il compte douze points d’avance au classement général. 

              

Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing), à domicile après s’être offert son premier podium à Silverstone, et Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) figuraient eux aussi dans le Top 8. 

Troisième le matin, Michele Pirro, en wildcard pour Ducati, a conclu la journée en neuvième position, devant Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda), qui étaient avec Alex de Angelis (E-Motion IodaRacing Team), Andrea Iannone (Ducati) et Karel Abraham (AB Motoracing) l’un des quatre pilotes à chuter au cours de cette séance. 

De retour sur un circuit où il avait brillé en WorldSBK, Loris Baz (Forward Racing) s’est classé deuxième pilote Ipen derrière Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team) tandis que Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) a fini 22e.

Jorge Lorenzo utilised winglets on his M1 and set the fastest ever lap by a motorbike around Misano ahead of Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa.

For the fourth race in a row it was Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo and Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez who filled the top two places on the combined timesheets on Friday. This time it was Lorenzo who finished on top of the pile as the Spaniard took advantage of the new track surface and glorious conditions (Track temperatures reached 38˚C) to set the fastest ever lap by a motorcycle around the 4.2km Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

               

Lorenzo set a 1’32.871 in FP2 whilst utilising a medium front and medium rear tyre on a day that saw nearly all riders improve in the warmer conditions of the afternoon. The Majorcan - who is currently second in the championship standings - broke Marquez’s 2013 Pole record in the process (1’32.915). FP2 also saw Lorenzo debut ‘winglets’ on his Yamaha M1 and they seemed to have a positive affect as he immediately went quicker.

Lorenzo ended the day just 0.053s ahead of Marquez, who had earlier topped FP1. Marquez preferred a hard front and hard rear combination for his flying laps at the end of FP2 in a session that once again saw the Spanish duo a cut above the rest.

Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa (+0.387s) completed the provisional front row but was over three-tenths off the pace of his teammate Marquez. Andrea Dovizioso (+0.420s) on the Ducati Team GP15 was in fourth ahead of the man who leads the championship standings by 12 points, Valentino Rossi (+0.598s). Rossi did not sport the ‘winglets’ on his M1, but expect to see them make an appearance in FP3, as he preferred a hard front and rear tyre combination like Marquez.

                

Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Pol Espargaro (+0.681s) was the leading Satellite rider in 6th, just one-thousandth of a second ahead of the Octo Pramac Racing Ducati of Danilo Petrucci.

                   

Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) finished the day in 7th, with Ducati Team’s test rider Michele Pirro (wildcard) and Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) completing the top ten, despite the latter crashing at the start of FP2.

              

EG 0,0 Marc VDS rider Scott Redding was 11th, with Aleix Espargaro (Team Suzuki Ecstar) in 12th and less than a second behind Lorenzo, while Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) had to settle for 13th after also crashing during the session.

Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team) ended the day in 15th as the leading Open class rider, with Jack Miller (LCR Honda) and Nicky Hayden (Aspar MotoGP Team) in 19th and 22nd respectively.

MotoGP ; Márquez prend la pole position à Indianapolis / Marquez makes it three out of three

Marc Márquez sera en pole position pour viser une cinquième victoire d’affilée à l’Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

           

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) n’aura pas laissé le suspense durer en qualifications et s’est installé en pole provisoire dès son premier run avant d’ensuite améliorer son meilleur temps pour se confirmer en pole position, sa cinquième cette année et sa troisième consécutive à Indianapolis, où il avait gagné ces deux dernières années en MotoGP™ mais aussi les deux années d’avant en Moto2™.

Invaincu aux Etats-Unis depuis 2012, le Champion en titre partira avec l’avantage de pole pour essayer de remporter une septième victoire consécutive sur le sol américain et a fini les qualifications avec un chrono de 1’31.884, à un peu plus de deux dixièmes du record du circuit qu’il avait établi l’an dernier. 

Son coéquipier Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) et Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) l’accompagneront en première ligne après avoir respectivement terminé à 0.171s et 0.302s de la pole. Premier pilote à sortir de la pit-lane, Lorenzo, dernier pilote ne courant pas sur Honda à avoir gagné à Indy (2009), avait opté pour une stratégie à trois tentatives mais n’a pas pu se montrer aussi rapide que ses concurrents, qui tenteront d’offrir au HRC une sixième victoire consécutive au Brickyard.

                   

Délogé de la première ligne par Lorenzo, Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda) partira finalement en tête de la deuxième, devant Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing), auteur du meilleur temps en Q1 premier pilote Ducati sur la grille, et Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3).

Dixième sur le classement combiné de vendredi, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) demeurait à plus d’une demi-seconde de la première place et s’est qualifié entre Andrea Iannone (Ducati) et Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) sur la troisième ligne. 

                  

Deuxième de la Q1 derrière Petrucci, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) n’a pas pu faire mieux que dixième en Q1, devant Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3), qui est tombé le vendredi comme le samedi, et Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar), douzième à 0.930s de Márquez.

Du côté de la catégorie Open, Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing) conservait l’avantage pris vendredi et s’installait à la quatorzième position sur la grille de départ, derrière Scott Redding (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS). 

                   

Stefan Bradl (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini), qui fait ses débuts sur la RS-GP ce week-end, a devancé son nouveau coéquipier Álvaro Bautista pour prendre la dix-huitième position. 

Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) a de son côté chuté dans le dernier virage du tracé américain en Q1 et partira de la 22e position, devant Toni Elías, qui remplace Karel Abraham (AB Motoracing) ce week-end.

Marc Marquez makes it three pole positions in a row at the Indianapolis Speedway as his teammate Dani Pedrosa completes a Honda 1-2.

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez continued his dominance of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to make it three pole positions in a row at the legendary US circuit. The reigning MotoGP Champion has own the last two races at the circuit from pole position, and signs are ominous that he might do the same this weekend after he was the only rider to break the 1’32 barrier during Q2. The day got even better for Repsol Honda as Dani Pedrosa (+0.171s) managed to finish second fastest and secure a 1-2 on the grid for the Factory Team.

Marquez set a 1’31.884 on his just his second flying lap during the session in near perfect conditions as the sun broke through the clouds and the track temperature reached 40ºC at the ‘Brickyard’. Try as they might, no one else had an answer to the Spaniard’s pace in a frantic end to the session, and it was only Pedrosa who managed to get within three-tenths of the reigning MotoGP™ World Champion.

                

Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo (+0.302s) will start from the back of the front row, as the man second in the MotoGP™ title battle looks to close the 13-point gap in the standings to his teammate Valentino Rossi. Cal Crutchlow (+0.324s) was the leading Satellite rider and will start from the head of the second row in fourth on the CWM LCR Honda.

The big surprise of the session was the pace of Octo Pramac Racing’s Danilo Petrucci (+0.359s), who finished fastest in Q1 and managed to carry that pace into Q2 to start from fifth on the grid as the fastest Ducati. Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith (+0.385s), who had been second fastest overall in practice, will start the race from sixth ahead of the Factory GP15 of Andrea Iannone in seventh.

                  

Current championship leader Valentino Rossi was third on the timesheets with 7 mins to go, but was knocked down to 8th by the end of the session and will have to work hard to try and preserve his advantage in the championship standings on Sunday. The  Italian won’t be panicking just yet though as two of his race win this season (Qatar and Argentina) have both come from 8th on the grid.

Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Maverick Viñales completes the third row in ninth while Andrea Dovizioso on the second GP15 will start from tenth on the grid, with the Italian having to fight his way through Q2 after finishing 11th on the combined timesheets after practice.

Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and his brother Aleix (Team Suzuki Ecstar) make up the rest of the fourth row in 11th and 12th respectively, with less than a second separating the top 12 riders. To give you an indication how close it was, Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) only just missed out on making it through to Q2 by 0.079s and will start from 13th.

                 

Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera was the leading Open class rider in 14th, with Australian Jack Miller (CWM LCR Honda) in 16th. Stefan Bradl (17th) out qualified his teammate Alvaro Bautista (18th) on his debut for Aprilia Racing Team Gresini while the Aspar MotoGP Team duo of Eugene Laverty and Nicky Hayden will start from 19th and 20th on the grid respectively.

MotoGP ; Márquez renoue avec la victoire en Allemagne / Marquez is back

Le Champion en titre passe le cap de la mi-saison en se relançant avec une victoire remportée haut la main au Sachsenring.

        

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) a bouclé une difficile première moitié de saison 2015 de la meilleure des manières au Grand Prix GoPro d’Allemagne, où il s’est offert sa seconde victoire de la saison mais s’imposait en plus depuis la pole position pour la sixième année de suite sur la piste du Sachsenring.

Malgré ses 65 points de retard sur Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) suite à l’épreuve allemande, le Champion du Monde en titre a bel et bien prouvé qu’il était de retour et abordera la trêve estivale en pleine confiance.

             

Devancé par son coéquipier Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) au départ puis par Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) au bout du premier virage, Márquez n’a pas pris de risque en début de course et a attendu le sixième tour pour doubler Lorenzo, au moment où Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) passait devant Pedrosa en troisième position. 

Une fois installé en tête, Márquez a immédiatement fait la différence pour filer vers la victoire en solitaire et remporter un résultat très important pour sa saison 2015 puisqu’il ne s’agissait que de sa deuxième victoire, et quatrième podium, en neuf courses. 

Derrière lui, Lorenzo n’a pas tenu longtemps face à Rossi et Pedrosa et a petit à petit été distancé par les deux. Sur un circuit où il compte quatre victoires en MotoGP™ et qui réussit particulièrement bien à Honda, Pedrosa n’a pas eu de mal à suivre Rossi et a pris l’avantage sur l’Italien à une dizaine de tours de l’arrivée. En finissant deuxième, l’Espagnol obtenait son deuxième podium de l’année et se rassurait après la période de doute qui avait suivi son opération de l’avant-bras droit en début d’année. 

Battu par les deux pilotes Honda, Rossi atteignait quant à lui son objectif de finir devant Lorenzo et repartait d’Allemagne avec treize points d’avance sur son coéquipier à l’issue de la neuvième des dix-huit manches de la saison, contre dix avant la course. 

À quatre secondes de Rossi, Lorenzo manquait le podium mais ne concédait qu’un minimum de points au leader du classement général, qui finissait dans le Top 3 pour la treizième fois de suite. 

Andrea Iannone (Ducati) a fait une course en solitaire pour prendre la cinquième place et n’aura donc jamais manqué le Top 6 sur la première moitié de l’année.

Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda), Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing) et Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar) figuraient aussi dans le Top 10 à l’arrivée. 

             

La victoire en catégorie Open est revenue à Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing), treizième derrière Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) et Yonny Hernández (Octo Pramac Racing) tandis que son coéquipier Mike Di Meglio était contraint à l’abandon en début de course, à l’instar de Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), tombé dans le dernier virage dès le premier tour. 

                

Loris Baz (Athinà Forward Racing) a fini dix-neuvième de sa première course au Sachsenring, devant Michael Laverty, qui court à la place de Marco Melandri dans l’Aprilia Racing Team Gresini.

Hiroshi Aoyama, qui remplaçait Karel Hanika chez AB Motoracing, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati), tombé en fin de course, et Claudio Corti, remplaçant de Stefan Bradl (Athinà Forward Racing), n’ont pas pu rallier l’arrivée. 

Le Championnat du Monde MotoGP™ 2015 reprend le 9 août à l’Indianapolis Motor Speedway suite à une courte pause estivale.

Marquez takes his second victory of the season in a Repsol Honda 1-2.

That makes it 6 victories in a row at the Sachsenring for Marc Marquez, all of which were won from pole position.

When Marquez came here a year ago, he was chasing his 9th consecutive win of the season. At this point in 2015 Marquez’s title hopes are weak but the Spaniard’s desire to win is anything but. Now that Marquez appears to be back on form, he’s showing no signs of making things easy for the Movistar Yamaha duo in the second half of the season. Marquez said: "From the beginning I felt good and when I had the gap I just tried to manage it. I'm happy because this weekend we’ve been always first and it has been a long time since I had that. It’s a good result to go on holidays with, but I want to keep getting better."

Dani Pedrosa has a very good record here in Germany too, having won here 6 times in total across MotoGP and 25cc classes. Before the race he said that if he could get a good start and stay at the front for the first few laps, it would make all the difference. This proved to be true as the Spaniard joins team mate Marc Marquez on the podium, securing a 1-2 for the Repsol Honda team. However Pedrosa said the turning point came at half distance: "When the tank emptied at the middle of the race I was comfortable and I went straight past Jorge. Then I went about catching Rossi but he wasn’t easy to pass. On corner exit the Yamaha is strong. Then I made the move and had to push at the end. I had to push a little more than him as he was really trying!"

               

Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) finished in third place, which is enough to increase his championship lead, so Rossi had a lot to be happy about: "I think that Dani had something in his pocket - I was at the limit with a constant rhythm, but at one point he was able to pull out 2 very fast laps, I tried to battle but he was too quick. Anyway it's another podium, I gained 3 points on Jorge [Lorenzo] which is important for the championship. We know that we always suffer here against the Hondas, so we'll wait for a better track for the M1!"

With Rossi's team mate Jorge Lorenzo coming in 4th place, the Movistar Yamaha duo did enough to maintain their positions at the top of the championship standings, with Rossi enjoying a 13 point lead over Lorenzo.

                

Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) claimed 5th position, followed by British riders Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Cal Crutchlow (CWM-LCR Honda) in 6th and 7th respectively.

Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing) and Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar) complete the top 10.

MotoGP ; Un Márquez record s'offre une nouvelle pole au Sachsenring / Marquez secures pole for German GP

Marc Márquez a pulvérisé son propre record du circuit pour décrocher sa sixième pole position consécutive en Allemagne.

           

En pole position et invaincu au Sachsenring depuis 2010, Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) a de nouveau excellé sur le circuit allemand samedi après-midi lors des qualifications pour la neuvième manche de la saison MotoGP™ 2015 et s’est offert une nouvelle pole position, sa quatrième de l’année suite à celles d’Austin, de Termas de Rio Hondo et du Mans. 

Solidement installé en tête de la feuille de temps depuis le début du week-end, le Champion en titre n’a pas eu de rival à sa hauteur dans l’exercice du contre-la-montre et a battu son propre record du circuit, établi en qualifications l’année dernière, de six dixièmes de seconde. 

Son coéquipier Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), vainqueur au Sachsenring quatre fois en MotoGP™, s’est assuré un départ en seconde position et a conclu à près de trois dixièmes de seconde de la pole. 

Seul autre pilote à être passé sous la barre des 1’21, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) n’a pas pu rivaliser avec des Honda extrêmement à l’aise sur le tracé allemand mais sera au moins en première ligne après avoir terminé à trois dixièmes de seconde de Pedrosa. 

                

Andrea Iannone (Ducati) s’est pour sa part installé en tête de la deuxième ligne, devant Yonny Hernández (Octo Pramac Racing), qui avait été le plus rapide en Q1 et a parfaitement réussi sa Q2. Le pilote colombien, cinquième à 0.779s de Márquez, partira devant le leader du Championnat du Monde, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), qui complètera la deuxième ligne après avoir été en pole deux semaines plus tôt à Assen et n’aura donc été en première ligne qu’une seule fois sur la première moitié de la saison 2015. 

Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar), son frère cadet Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3) et Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3), qui avait commencé sa séance en endommageant sa bulle d’un coup de casque suite à un début de highside, seront quant à eux en troisième ligne et étaient les trois derniers pilotes à moins d’une seconde du leader. 

                

Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda), Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) et Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) seront en quatrième ligne.

Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing), treizième devant Scott Redding (Estrella Galicia 0,0), sera le premier pilote Open sur la grille tandis que les Français Loris Baz (Athinà Forward Racing) et Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) partiront respectivement 20e et 21e.

The Repsol Honda rider’s 1’20.336 lap was enough to net him first position on the grid for this weekend’s MotoGP™ battle.

This is Marc Marquez's 6th consecutive pole at the Sachsenring, leading to victory for the Spaniard for the last 5 years in a row. He said: "We will try for six wins, the most important thing is the confidence with the bike is really high. In this circuit I always get good results but this weekend I feel good and I’m constant. I was also fast over one lap so I’m happy, also happy with the work that we have done. Tomorrow is the most important so we have to keep on like this."

Joining him on the front row are his team mate Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha).

               

Second place on the grid is Pedrosa's best qualifying result of the season: "Yeah, I was happy with my first feeling in the first run but Crutchlow didn’t see me and ruined my lap. Unfortunately I had to stop and change tyres and I wasn’t sure if we could do it on the second tyre because sometimes you don’t get the same feeling. Actually I produced a good lap and to get the front row at this track is very important. Hopefully we can make a little step tomorrow as Marquez’s pace is very high and we’re still missing a little. Hopefully we can make a good start and make the right tyre choice, which will be critical."

                 

After starting from 8th in Assen, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha) is back on qualifying form but concerned by the pace show by the Repsol Honda duo: "Impressive, it seems the Honda has no problems. They’re able to brake later and accelerate very soon. It will be tough to stay with them, I am the first Yamaha to do a 1’20 in this track so I am very happy with this lap time. I did my best and I didn’t get even close to them. I think our goal is to try to get the podium, the victory will be difficult but you never know. The podium is definitely achievable."

                   

Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) will start from 4th place, with Yonny Hernández (Octo Pramac Racing) in a very respectable 5th after having to fight his way through Q1. Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) completes the second row in 6th.

                 

The Espargaro brothers will have a chance to wish each other luck before the lights go out, given that they start together on the third row with Aleix (Team Suzuki Ecstar) in 7th and Pol (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) in 8th.

                 

Rounding out the top 10 are British riders Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Cal Crutchlow (CWM-LCR Honda), who start from 9th & 10th respectively.

                

The MotoGP action continues on July 12 at 09:40 local time with the warm up session, with the race to start at 14:00.

Lorenzo au sommet de sa forme pour le Motul TT Assen / Lorenzo at physical peak for Dutch GP

Rossi, Lorenzo, Iannone, Márquez, Smith et Pedrosa étaient réunis en conférence de presse mercredi à Assen.

Leader du classement général avec un point d’avance sur son coéquipier Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), Valentino Rossi a été le premier à prendre la parole pour aborder la course de ce week-end, qui a lieu sur un circuit où il a déjà gagné huit fois (1x125cc, 1x250cc, 6xMotoGP™). Sa dernière victoire dans la ‘Cathédrale du motocyclisme’ remonte néanmoins à 2013 et l’Italien a admis qu’il devrait améliorer ses performances en qualifications pour espérer battre Lorenzo : 

« Jorge est meilleur que moi en qualifications, il est toujours un peu plus rapide. C’est difficile parce qu’il y a beaucoup de motos rapides et que les Suzuki et Ducati ont le pneu extra soft. Les Honda sont elles aussi très rapides mais Jorge a le même pneu et la même moto que moi et nous devons donc progresser. C’est dur quand on part de la troisième ligne. À Barcelone j’avais un bon rythme et nous n’avions pas mis longtemps pour remonter jusqu’à la seconde place mais Jorge était déjà trop loin. C’est une histoire différente à chaque week-end et sur chaque circuit. Nous devrons rapidement comprendre le potentiel de notre moto et des pneus pour faire le maximum dès le début. »

Rossi a aussi confirmé qu’il testerait un nouveau cadre au long du week-end après l’avoir essayé une première fois la semaine dernière au MotorLand Aragón : « L’objectif était de tester le nouveau cadre sur deux pistes différentes et il était important de le faire à Barcelone (lors du test post-GP officiel) parce que nous pouvions directement comparer mais les conditions étaient trop mauvaises. Nous n’avons essayé le nouveau cadre qu’à Aragón et je pense que nous continuerons à le tester demain pour voir si nous obtenons quelque chose de mieux ou pas. »

Vainqueur des quatre dernières courses en ayant mené durant 103 tours consécutifs, Lorenzo arrive aux Pays-Bas en pleine confiance et a affirmé :

« J’ai eu de très bonnes périodes dans ma carrière mais nous n’avions pas cette moto à l’époque. Notre moto est très constante en course, elle nous permet de garder un rythme élevé et c’est pourquoi nous avons jusqu'ici dominé le dimanche. Je suis aussi en grande forme, je suis capable de battre mon coach en VTT pour la première fois et j’en suis très fier. Nous devons cependant continuer à travailler dur afin de trouver un bon set-up. »

À 69 points de Rossi après avoir chuté lors des deux dernières courses, Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) réessayera le cadre 2014 de la RC213V ce week-end à Assen en espérant résoudre ses problèmes sur une piste où il avait gagné l’an dernier : « Après les deux dernières courses, nous avons évidemment besoin d’un bon résultat. Assen est une piste que j’aime, l’an dernier ça s’était bien passé mais les conditions météo avaient été mitigées pour la course. Vale et Jorge avaient été très forts il y a deux ans. Nous devrons attendre de voir comment se passera le week-end. Nous sommes confiants, nous n’avons malheureusement pas pu essayer tout ce que nous avions prévu à cause de la pluie au test de Barcelone mais nous allons faire de notre mieux. Le lundi après la course, j’avais utilisé le cadre de 2014, c’était positif et je l’utiliserai ici aussi. »

Dans le Top 6 à chaque course depuis le début de la saison, Andrea Iannone (Ducati) arrive à Assen en étant classé troisième et a commenté : « C’est un moment très positif pour moi et il est important que je continue à travailler. Les GP14 et GP13 étaient très difficiles à piloter sur cette piste mais je pense que la GP15 sera meilleure ici parce qu’elle est beaucoup plus agile. J’espère me battre pour le podium. Je veux me battre pour le podium à chaque course mais ce serait encore mieux si c’était pour la victoire ! »

Premier pilote satellite au général, Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) compte seulement un point de retard sur Márquez et 21 d’avance sur son premier poursuivant, son compatriote Cal Crutchlow. Le Britannique est clairement beaucoup plus épanoui qu’en 2014 et a déclaré : « Il y a eu beaucoup de changement cette année et du bon côté. Je suis content de pouvoir démontrer ce dont je suis capable. Le principal objectif pour cette saison était d’être régulier et d’être le premier pilote satellite et j’ai plus de vingt points d’avance en ce moment. Ce n’est rien d’extraordinaire mais nous finissons les courses et continuons à gagner en expérience. »

Sur le podium pour la première fois de l’année en Catalogne lors de l’épreuve précédente, Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) retrouve le circuit de sa première victoire en Grand Prix et a affirmé : « J’avais eu ma première victoire ici quand j’étais encore tout jeune, c’était un grand moment pour toute ma famille. Monter sur le podium chez moi (au GP de Catalogne) après tout ce qui s’était passé cette année a aussi été un moment spécial. Je n’ai pas fait ma meilleure course mais j’étais onzième après un mauvais départ. J’espère que nous pourrons bien rouler ici. Nous devons faire mieux en qualifications et prendre un bon départ cette fois-ci ! »

Le Motul TT Assen commence jeudi matin à 9h avec la première séance d’essais libres de la catégorie Moto3™.

Rossi, Lorenzo, Iannone, Marquez, Smith and Pedrosa were all present at the press conference that marks the start of the Motul TT Assen.

The official Press Conference kicked off round eight of the MotoGP™ World Championships at the legendary TT Circuit Assen, the only track to host an event every year since the World Championships began back in 1949.

Valentino Rossi arrives at Assen leading the championship standings by just one point from his teammate Jorge Lorenzo. The Italian has won at Assen eight times before (1x125cc, 1x250cc, 6xMotoGP™), although the last time he stood on the top step at the “Cathedral” was back in 2013. Rossi knows he has to improve his performance in qualifying to have any chance of beating Lorenzo: “Yeah, Jorge is better than me in qualifying; he’s always a little bit faster. It’s difficult because there are a lot of bikes that are very fast and Suzuki and Ducati have the extra soft tyre to help. The Hondas are also very fast, but Jorge has the same tyre and bike as me, so we need to improve. Starting from the third row is tough, in Barcelona I had a good pace and we didn’t lose much time to get to second, but already Jorge was far. Every weekend and track has a different story so we have to understand the potential of the bike and the tyres and make the maximum from Friday.”

Rossi also revealed that he will be evaluating a new frame over the course of the weekend after trying it out in a private test: “The plan was to try the new frame at two different tracks and it was important to try in Barcelona (Official test) because we can compare back to back from the race, but the conditions were very bad. We only tried the new frame in Aragon and I think we will try it tomorrow and to fully understand it in practice if we have something better or not.”

His teammate Jorge Lorenzo has won the last four races in a row, and is in the form of his life coming into the Dutch GP. Lorenzo has also led the last 103 laps across the line as he looks to add to his two MotoGP™ World Championship titles this season. The Spaniard feels he is experiencing one of the best moments of his career: “I have had some very good periods in my career, but probably we didn’t have this bike. Especially in the race our bike is very constant and we can keep a high pace, this is why we’ve dominated on Sunday till now. For now, I’m in good shape, for the first time I beat my trainer on the mountain bike so I’m really proud of that! But we still have to work hard and find a good set up.”

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez faces make or break time in Holland. The reigning MotoGP™ World Champion heads into the weekend trailing Rossi by 69 points in the standings, after crashing out in front of his home fans at the Catalan GP. Marquez is hoping he can replicate his success from last year when he won at Assen, and will be trying out the 2014 frame on his RC213V in an effort to improve his fortunes: “Of course after the last two races we need a good result. Assen is a track I like, last year was good but it was also a mixed weather race. Two years ago Vale and Jorge were very strong. We’ll have to see how this weekend goes. We have a good confidence, unfortunately the Barcelona test was raining so we couldn’t try everything but we’ll try to do our best. I used on Monday after the race the 2014 frame, it was good and I will use it here.”

Ducati Team’s Andrea Iannone arrives in Assen having not finished outside of the top six all season. The Italian is now third in the Championship standings, after finishing fourth last time out in Barcelona. Iannone clearly feels that the GP15 will be suited to the nature of the Assen circuit: “It’s really important for me in this moment, a positive one, to keep working. The GP14 and 13 were very difficult in this track and I hope the GP15 improves on this track because the agility of this bike is much better. I hope for the podium. I want to fight for the podium in every race, but the victory is better!”

Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith is the leading Satellite rider in the standings after two consecutive fifth-placed finishes. The Brit currently has 68 points, just one less than Marquez, and 21 more than his nearest Satellite rival Cal Crutchlow. Smith is clearly enjoying the 2015 season so far compared to last year: “It’s been a big change this season and for the better. It’s been nice to showcase what I can really do. Obviously the main object for this season was to be consistent and to be the top Satellite rider; right now I have over a 20-point lead. Nothing spectacular but we’ve been finishing races and gaining experience.”

Dani Pedrosa continued his encouraging return from arm-pump surgery at the Catalan Grand Prix, after being forced to miss three races. The Spaniard managed to finish on the podium for the first time this season in Barcelona, and he will be hoping for more of the same at a circuit where he has some happy memories: “Yes my first victory was here when I was just a kid, it was a really happy moment for all of my family. I still remember it! Yeah, it was special to be on the podium at home (Catalan GP) after everything that has happened. I didn’t have the best race. I was 11th on the first lap after a bad start. After the first laps, I wasn’t progressing much but then I went well and hopefully we can do things better here. We need to do a better qualifying and finally do one good start!”

Smith brought the biggest laugh of the press conference when he was asked the secret to his fantastic race starts this year, to which he simply replied, “Big balls and brake late!”

MotoGP : Lorenzo encore intouchable à Montmeló et à un point de Rossi / The Lorenzo Effect

Jorge Lorenzo est revenu à un point de son coéquipier Valentino Rossi en s’imposant devant l’Italien à Barcelona-Catalunya.

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) a battu l’un de ses records personnels en s’imposant pour la quatrième fois de suite en MotoGP™ au Grand Prix Monster Energy de Catalogne et demeure invaincu en Europe cette année. Après avoir été absent du podium lors des trois premières manches au Qatar, au Texas puis en Argentine, le Majorquin avait conquis l’Espagne, la France et l’Italie avant d’à nouveau s’imposer en solitaire à Montmeló, où il compte désormais quatre victoires en MotoGP™.

Qualifié en première ligne derrière Aleix Espargaró et Maverick Viñales du Team Suzuki Ecstar, le double Champion du Monde MotoGP™ est passé en tête dès le départ et a vite creusé l’écart. Parti septième, Rossi a lui aussi bien réussi son début de course et était déjà remonté jusqu’à la deuxième place au bout de quatre tours. Lorenzo était cependant déjà loin devant et malgré tous ses efforts, Rossi n’a jamais suffisamment réduit l’écart pour rivaliser avec son coéquipier pour la victoire. 

En finissant deuxième et sur le podium pour onzième course consécutive en comptant les quatre dernières de la saison 2014, Rossi ne concédait cependant que cinq points à son coéquipier et conservait la tête du classement général, qu’il occupe depuis le début de l’année, avec une petite longueur d’avance sur Lorenzo. 

À dix-huit secondes de Rossi, Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) a pris la troisième place et accédait au podium pour la première fois de l’année. Opéré de l’avant-bras droit peu après la première course au Qatar, le Catalan avait manqué trois épreuves avant de reprendre la compétition et obtenait donc un résultat extrêmement important pour sa carrière mais aussi pour Honda, qui n’avait qu’une seule moto dans le Top 10 à l’arrivée.

Tombé quinze jours plus tôt au Mugello, Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) a de nouveau chuté, dans le troisième tour, alors qu’il était très bien parti de la deuxième ligne et occupait la seconde position. Suite à son troisième abandon de la saison, le Champion en titre, qui n’avait jamais manqué le podium trois fois de suite en MotoGP™, se retrouve à 69 points de Rossi et n’a qu’un point d’avance sur le premier pilote satellite, Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3).

Márquez n’est que l’un des nombreux pilotes à être tombé puisque Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda) avait chuté avant lui, dès le premier tour, tandis que Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) est tombé trois tours après l’Espagnol et n’a lui non plus pas pu repartir. 

La chute de l’Italien avait permis à Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar) de remonter à la troisième position suite à un départ très décevant. Le Catalan n’a cependant pas pu résister face à Pedrosa et a malheureusement fini par lui aussi chuter, à quelques tours de l’arrivée, alors qu’il était quatrième et allait obtenir un résultat important pour Suzuki après avoir signé la toute première pole position de la GSX-RR. 

Andrea Iannone (Ducati), désormais troisième du classement général, et Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) en ont profité pour prendre les quatrième et cinquième places, devant Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar), qui avait, comme son coéquipier, manqué son départ mais finissait avec son meilleur résultat depuis son arrivée en MotoGP™.

Complétaient le Top 10 Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), Stefan Bradl (Athinà Forward Racing), qui s’imposait pour la première fois en catégorie Open, Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing) et Álvaro Bautista (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini), pour la première fois dans le Top 10 avec la RS-GP.

Nicky Hayden (Aspar MotoGP Team), Marco Melandri (Aprilia Racing Team), Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3) et Yonny Hernández (Octo Pramac Racing) ayant abandonné, Jack Miller (CWM LCR Honda), Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team), Loris Baz (Athinà Forward Racing), Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) et Alex De Angelis (E-Motion IodaRacing Team) ont pris les points de la onzième à la quinzième places, les premiers de l’année pour Di Meglio comme pour De Angelis.

Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing) était le dernier pilote à l’arrivée et était seizième.

A dominant Jorge Lorenzo works his magic to match Mike Hailwood’s record of 37 premier class victories at the Catalan GP.

Movistar Yamaha’s Lorenzo has been simply unstoppable in the last four races. After an awful start to the season that saw him plagued by issues for the first three races, no one has had an answer to the Spaniards pace since.

At the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, local hero Lorenzo made it four consecutive race wins and equalled Mike Hailwood’s record of 37 premier class victories in front of 97,000 partisan fans.

This is the first time Lorenzo has managed to win four races in a row, and in achieving this feat he also broke Casey Stoner's record for the most laps led consecutively in a race (83), with Lorenzo having now managed to lead the last 103 laps across the line.

Although Lorenzo appeared to be in complete control, he revealed afterwards that was not the case: “To be honest, the last ten laps of today‘s race were probably one of the most hard and intense laps of my career. Valentino was very fast and knowing that the track was really hot and there was less grip than yesterday, I‘m happy with the results.”

The only person who could get anywhere near Lorenzo during the race was his teammate Rossi. Lorenzo must have experienced Déjà vu when his pit board told him Rossi was closing on him during the latter stages in a scene reminiscent of the 2009 race, when the Italian beat him at the very last corner: “When he reduced the gap from 2.0s to 1.4s I was really worried that I would lose this race. I needed to push and risk more while the bike was already moving a lot, which is what I did in the last ten laps.”

Rossi himself admitted he had, once again, given Lorenzo too much of a head start: “I was good in the beginning of the race when I was overtaking and I was fast, but it was not enough, because when I arrived to the second position Jorge already had a 1.5s gap. It‘s a great shame because I had the pace to fight with him and I could have been very strong in a battle, because I was very strong in braking.

Rossi, however, does appear to be getting closer to his teammate’s pace: “I am happy as I had a good pace, good setting, my speed is equal in the race today to Jorge, that is a good target. After seven races, we have one point difference and a similar pace, so it will be interesting I think!”

Lorenzo now trails Rossi by just one point in the Championship standings, in what appears to be turning into a two horse race. The problem is, unless Rossi can find a solution to his Qualifying woes, he will find it hard to catch Lorenzo come race day.

Someone who felt the full effect of Lorenzo’s race-pace was Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez. Marquez was the one rider who had looked like he might be able to stick with Lorenzo during the race. The Spanish rider, however, crashed out on just the third lap as he tried to keep up: “I tried to give 100% at my home race but I made a mistake trying to push too much, as I wanted to do well – at all costs – and these things can happen.”

The reigning MotoGP™ World Champion’s hopes of a third consecutive title now seem in tatters, as he is currently fifth in the standings, 69 points behind Rossi with just 11 races remaining.

To emphasise the apparent gulf in class between the Factory Yamaha’s and the rest of the field, Marquez’s teammate Dani Pedrosa crossed the line in third over 18.5s behind the duo. Pedrosa took his first podium of the season, matching Mick Doohan’s record of 95 premier podiums in the process, as he continues his comeback from arm pump surgery: “I am very happy because it has been a very long process, we struggle a lot, suffer a lot in the last months, everything looked against me. I followed my heart and this was the right thing to do. I have made positive progress with each round. But finally some good results, especially in front of the home crowd was great.”

Although the former 125cc and 250cc World Champion is under no illusions about the task at hand: “It was impossible to follow Jorge and Valentino, because they were far ahead in terms of performance. We will try to pull back the gap a little for the coming races and see if in testing tomorrow we can find something positive – and understand the situation better.”

The rest of the paddock will have a chance to try to close the gap on the Factory Yamaha team at the official test on Monday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
