Lorenzo double la mise au Motegi / Lorenzo overcomes injury to dominate Friday’s practice

Nettement au-dessus de ses adversaires le matin, le Majorquin a de nouveau dominé les essais libres vendredi après-midi au Japon.

             

Avec quatorze points de retard sur son coéquipier Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) dans leur duel pour le titre mondial, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) se doit de prendre l’initiative et l’a fait sans hésitation vendredi au Twin Ring Motegi, où commençait le Grand Prix Motul du Japon, première des quatre dernières manches de la saison 2015.

Le Majorquin, vainqueur de l’épreuve japonaise ces deux dernières années, a attaqué dès le matin pour boucler la première séance d’essais du week-end avec près de quatre dixièmes de seconde d’avance sur Andrea Iannone (Ducati) et a poursuivi ses efforts l’après-midi, lors d’une seconde séance marquée par une nette progression de l’ensemble des pilotes. 

                 

Bien que ses adversaires se soient rapprochés de lui, Lorenzo conservait en fin de journée la première position sur le classement combiné, avec 0.128s d’avance sur Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), en pleine forme après s’être brillamment battu pour prendre la seconde place lors de la course précédente, en Aragón.

Toujours affaibli par son épaule gauche, dont il ne se fera pas opérer avant la fin de la saison, Iannone avait annoncé que le Motegi était une piste faite pour lui et a confirmé sa performance matinale en se maintenant dans le Top 3 au terme de la seconde séance d’essais, en étant 0.312s de Lorenzo.

                   

Son coéquipier Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) a trouvé un rythme similaire (+0.016s sur Iannone) pour se hisser à la quatrième position, devant Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) et Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar), qui, comme les pilotes Ducati, bénéficie d’un pneu arrière plus tendre.

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda), récemment opéré de la main gauche, et Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) se sont respectivement classés septième et huitième, en étant respectivement à plus de sept et huit dixièmes de seconde de Lorenzo.

                   

Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3) a fini neuvième, devant Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing), dixième et premier pilote Open.

Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) s’est quant à lui classé 21e, trois places devant Loris Baz (Forward Racing), qui a chuté. 

Les pilotes MotoGP™ seront de retour en piste samedi matin à 9h55 au Japon, soit 2h55 en France métropolitaine.

Jorge Lorenzo dominated Friday’s practice to top the combined timesheets ahead of Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Iannone with Rossi in eighth.

Movistar Yamaha’s Lorenzo took advantage of ideal conditions (Track temp. 40˚C) at the Twin Ring Motegi to set a 1’44.731 in FP2 to top Friday’s practice. Lorenzo showed no ill effects from the shoulder injury he picked up earlier in the week as he completely dominated proceedings on Friday at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan.

Lorenzo’s time was less than three-tenths off Andrea Dovizioso’s Pole Record from last year (1’44.502) as the Spaniard looks to close the 14-point gap to his teammate Valentino Rossi in the standings.

Repsol Honda’s Pedrosa (+0.128s) seemed buoyed by his podium finish at Aragon and ended the day in second overall after improving by over a second from FP1 to FP2. Ducati Team’s Andrea Iannone was third fastest on a day that saw 0.312s separate the provisional front row. The Italian finished ahead of his teammate Andrea Dovizioso in fourth as just 0.016s separated the two, despite Iannone also carrying a shoulder injury. The Ducati Team GP15’s made use of special cooling ducts to keep the front brakes cool, as did both the Movistar Yamaha team and Team Suzuki Ecstar.

               

Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith (+0.519s) impressed as the leading Satellite rider in fifth overall, after he had finished fourth fastest in FP1. Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Aleix Espargaro (+0.617s) was sixth fastest with Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez in seventh. The reigning MotoGP™ champion was using a modified handlebar to accommodate the broken fifth metacarpal on his left hand and at one point pulled off a remarkable save at turn 8 to stop him from doing any further damage.

                 

Championship leader Rossi found himself down in 8th overall at the end of the day, after ending FP1 in third. Rossi was 0.823s off the pace of Lorenzo and will have work to do on Saturday to try and maintain his 14-point lead.

Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) was ninth ahead of the leading Open Class rider, Hector Barbera on the Avintia Racing Ducati, who completed the top ten.

             

British riders Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) and Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) were in 11th and 12th respectively. Australian Jack Miller (LCR Honda) was 15th fastest overall while Irishman Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team) was in 19th, ahead of his teammate Nicky Hayden (20th). The 2006 MotoGP™ World Champion Hayden announced on Friday he will be leaving MotoGP™for WorldSBK in 2016.

Wildcards Takumi Takahashi (Team HRC With Nissin) and Katsuyuki Nagasuka (Yamaha Factor Racing Team) ended the day in 18th and 23rd respectively despite the latter crashing late on in FP2, while Kousuke Akiyoshi, the replacement for the injured Karel Abraham in the AB Motoracing Team, was in 27th.

Lorenzo signe un nouveau record du circuit à Misano / Record-breaking Lorenzo heads Friday’s practice

L’Espagnol et son compatriote Marc Márquez ont de nouveau été clairement plus rapides que leurs concurrents vendredi après-midi.

          

Deuxième à 0.094s de Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) le matin alors que les autres pilotes étaient à plus d’une demi-seconde du Champion en titre, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) a réussi à prendre l’avantage vendredi après-midi lors de la seconde séance du Grand Prix TIM de Saint-Marin et de la Riviera di Rimini. 

             

Sur une YZR-M1 équipée d’ailerons latéraux à l’avant du carénage, le Majorquin a établi le nouveau record absolu du circuit en 1’32.871, soit 0.044s de mieux que l’ancien record, signé par Márquez en 2013. Ce dernier a conclu la deuxième séance à tout juste 0.053s de Lorenzo et avait déjà eu l’occasion de rouler sur le nouveau revêtement de Misano lors d’un test privé organisé cet été.

Lui aussi présent pour ces essais privés, son coéquipier Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) a terminé troisième, à 0.387s de Lorenzo, devant les Italiens Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) et Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), qui finissait à 0.598s de son coéquipier, sur qui il compte douze points d’avance au classement général. 

              

Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing), à domicile après s’être offert son premier podium à Silverstone, et Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) figuraient eux aussi dans le Top 8. 

Troisième le matin, Michele Pirro, en wildcard pour Ducati, a conclu la journée en neuvième position, devant Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda), qui étaient avec Alex de Angelis (E-Motion IodaRacing Team), Andrea Iannone (Ducati) et Karel Abraham (AB Motoracing) l’un des quatre pilotes à chuter au cours de cette séance. 

De retour sur un circuit où il avait brillé en WorldSBK, Loris Baz (Forward Racing) s’est classé deuxième pilote Ipen derrière Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team) tandis que Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) a fini 22e.

Jorge Lorenzo utilised winglets on his M1 and set the fastest ever lap by a motorbike around Misano ahead of Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa.

For the fourth race in a row it was Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo and Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez who filled the top two places on the combined timesheets on Friday. This time it was Lorenzo who finished on top of the pile as the Spaniard took advantage of the new track surface and glorious conditions (Track temperatures reached 38˚C) to set the fastest ever lap by a motorcycle around the 4.2km Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

               

Lorenzo set a 1’32.871 in FP2 whilst utilising a medium front and medium rear tyre on a day that saw nearly all riders improve in the warmer conditions of the afternoon. The Majorcan - who is currently second in the championship standings - broke Marquez’s 2013 Pole record in the process (1’32.915). FP2 also saw Lorenzo debut ‘winglets’ on his Yamaha M1 and they seemed to have a positive affect as he immediately went quicker.

Lorenzo ended the day just 0.053s ahead of Marquez, who had earlier topped FP1. Marquez preferred a hard front and hard rear combination for his flying laps at the end of FP2 in a session that once again saw the Spanish duo a cut above the rest.

Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa (+0.387s) completed the provisional front row but was over three-tenths off the pace of his teammate Marquez. Andrea Dovizioso (+0.420s) on the Ducati Team GP15 was in fourth ahead of the man who leads the championship standings by 12 points, Valentino Rossi (+0.598s). Rossi did not sport the ‘winglets’ on his M1, but expect to see them make an appearance in FP3, as he preferred a hard front and rear tyre combination like Marquez.

                

Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Pol Espargaro (+0.681s) was the leading Satellite rider in 6th, just one-thousandth of a second ahead of the Octo Pramac Racing Ducati of Danilo Petrucci.

                   

Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) finished the day in 7th, with Ducati Team’s test rider Michele Pirro (wildcard) and Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) completing the top ten, despite the latter crashing at the start of FP2.

              

EG 0,0 Marc VDS rider Scott Redding was 11th, with Aleix Espargaro (Team Suzuki Ecstar) in 12th and less than a second behind Lorenzo, while Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) had to settle for 13th after also crashing during the session.

Eugene Laverty (Aspar MotoGP Team) ended the day in 15th as the leading Open class rider, with Jack Miller (LCR Honda) and Nicky Hayden (Aspar MotoGP Team) in 19th and 22nd respectively.

GRAND PRIX ČESKÉ REPUBLIKY ; Lorenzo : « Très dur physiquement »

L’Espagnol a été le plus rapide vendredi à Brno, où les très hautes températures ont été l’un des sujets clés de la journée.

Classé premier puis deuxième de chacune des deux séances d’essais libres qui ouvraient le Grand Prix bwin de République Tchèque vendredi à Brno, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) a conclu sa journée en tête du classement général en vertu d’un meilleur chrono réalisé le matin, avant que les températures ne montent à niveau extrême. 

D’après les données enregistrées par Bridgestone, les températures de piste allaient de 35 à 39°C pour la première séance, le matin, et se situaient ensuite aux alentours de 49-50°C l’après-midi pour une seconde séance qui a été marquée par plusieurs chutes. Le Majorquin n’est de son côté pas tombé mais a admis que les conditions et la chaleur avaient été difficiles à supporter.

Jorge Lorenzo :

« Nous sommes très bien partis ce matin puis cet après-midi les conditions étaient parmi les plus difficiles de toute la saison. Il faisait très chaud et sur la ligne droite on pouvait sentir la chaleur venant du moteur, c’était donc très dur physiquement. Sans vent, les conditions de piste étaient moins bonnes que le matin mais nous avons réussi à tenir un rythme régulier par rapport à nos adversaires. Au final j’ai essayé tous les pneus et quelques réglages qui nous donneront une bonne direction à suivre pour demain. »

Rossi : « Sa moto a perdu de l’huile et j’ai chuté »

La fuite d’huile d’une moto qui était devant à lui à été à l’origine de la première chute de la saison 2015 pour Valentino Rossi.

Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) est tombé pour la première fois de la saison 2015 vendredi après-midi à Brno, où l’Italien a glissé sur une fuite d’huile provenant de la moto de Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), qui n’était pas loin devant lui. 

Grâce à un chrono d’1’57.038, l’Italien occupe la sixième position sur le classement combiné, à une demi-seconde de son coéquipier Jorge Lorenzo.

                   

Valentino Rossi :

« Pedrosa a malheureusement eu un problème avec sa moto, elle a perdu un peu d’huile et je suis tombé. L’après-midi a été difficile pour tout le monde parce que la piste glissait beaucoup, que le niveau d’adhérence était très bas et qu’il y avait en même temps beaucoup de bosses. J’étais donc à la limite à chaque fois que j’entrais en virage. C’est allé un peu mieux en fin d’après-midi et j’ai pu prendre la quatrième position mais je dois réduire l’écart, notamment avec Jorge, qui semble avoir le meilleur rythme. »

Márquez : « Lorenzo a un rythme très rapide »

              

Marc Márquez était deuxième sur le classement combiné de vendredi à Brno malgré ses deux chutes.

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) avait terminé la première séance d’essais en seconde position, à 0.151s de Jorge Lorenzo, et s’est ensuite rapproché du temps de référence en tournant en 1’56.513 dans la seconde séance, pour revenir à 0.014s du chrono de référence. 

Le Champion en titre est cependant tombé le matin comme l’après-midi et espère pouvoir trouver un rythme de course au moins aussi rapide que celui de Lorenzo afin de viser une troisième victoire consécutive après celles du Sachsenring et d’Indianapolis.

Marc Márquez :

« La journée a été très productive, nous avons obtenu beaucoup de données et nous avons constaté que ça n’allait pas être un circuit facile. Je suis rapide sur un tour mais j’ai plus de mal à garder un rythme régulier. Nous avons fini premiers de la seconde séance mais le plus important était de progresser sur notre cadence parce que Lorenzo a un rythme très rapide. Cet après-midi nous étions proches de lui et nous verrons demain si nous pouvons continuer à progresser afin d’être le plus près possible du sommet. »

        

Scorching track temperatures saw a multitude of crashes during MotoGP™ FP2 at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky as Lorenzo forged ahead.

A heat wave has hit the Czech Republic and it produced a session filled with crashes during FP2. A total of seven MotoGP™ World Championship riders fell during FP2, one of the highest rates of attrition for a session so far in 2015, the majority caught out by the greasy surface of Brno is the blazing conditions. While his close rivals fell, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) stayed upright to end the day on top.

Track temperature during the second MotoGP™ session of the day was upwards of 47°C, reaching 50°C at certain points on track. These are temperatures more akin to Sepang in October, unusual for an August day in Brno. This saw the grip levels drastically reduced in the afternoon session, a major contributing factory to the high number of falls. Qualifying and FP4 on Saturday have similar conditions forecast, the added pressure of producing a single flying lap may see yet more crashes.

                     

Turn 5 saw both Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) fall in the sweltering heat. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) had his second crash of the day in FP2, falling at Turn 7. Both corners were highlighted as the biggest problem areas by multiple riders at the end of the day due to the bumps on entry.  Jack Miller (CWM LCR Honda) highlighted the issue: “I saw a lot of riders going down and it was a little bit scary at the start there. It’s really bumpy here, entering the corner on the brakes it just doesn’t want to co-operate.”

                      

However, it was not due to the weather or track conditions that both Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) found themselves in the gravel trap. “I had a problem with the front fork which I didn't realise until some oil hit the rear wheel as I was leaning over to the right into turn fourteen. The bike threw me off quite violently and I took a big knock to my left foot,” said Pedrosa after the session. Unfortunately for Rossi there was a small amount of oil on track, causing him to crash for the first time since Sepang last year.

Perhaps the biggest ramification of the crash is Pedrosa’s doubts over continuing the weekend due to pain in his foot. Pedrosa’s left foot, which he has broken before and has extensive metal work in, received the blow: “I went to Clinica Mobile for a check-up and they performed an x-ray on my left ankle. Thankfully they confirmed there was no break or fracture, just a heavy contusion so I will have some treatment tonight and see how the situation is in the morning."

Not only did Lorenzo lead the way but also with Pedrosa potentially out of the running, or at least racing at below being fully fit and confident, Lorenzo’s chances of a race win grow. A crash can lose a championship as easily as a podium can win one, riders will have to take extra care if the conditions continue as even a small mistake can have dramatic consequences in conditions such as these.

Rossi: “His bike lost some oil and I crashed”

Oil from another bike results in Rossi’s first crash in 2015, work to do at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky.

For the first time in the 2015 season Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) and his Yamaha M1 parted company involuntarily. During Free Practice 2 Rossi was behind Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) when the Honda rider encountered a problem with his front fork, resulting in a crash for the pair due to liquid on the track. Fortunately Rossi escaped injury and returned to track on his second bike soon after.

A 1’57.038 in FP1 secured the experienced Italian sixth overall on combined times, half a second from his teammate at the top of the timing sheets. Rossi feels that he is at a disadvantage, especially compared to Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) who had the best pace at the end of Friday. Qualifying on Saturday will be crucial; Rossi has frequently had to battle through the pack on race day, damaging his chances of winning races.

Valentino Rossi: “Unfortunately Pedrosa had a problem with his bike and it lost some oil and I crashed. This afternoon was difficult for everybody because the track is very slippery and the amount of grip is very low and at the same time there are a lot of bumps, so every time I entered the corner I was pretty much at the limit. At the end of the afternoon it went a bit better and I went into fourth position, but I have to recover a disadvantage, especially the one to Jorge, who seems to have the best pace.”

Marquez: “Lorenzo has a very fast rhythm”

Marc Marquez ends Friday practice second overall and admits his target is to try and close the gap to Jorge Lorenzo.

                 

Marquez ended FP1 in second place, just 0.151s behind the pace of Lorenzo. In FP2 Marc managed to improve and finished the session on top with a 1’56.513. He was one of the few top riders to improve on time from the morning, despite crashing late on in the session at turn seven, fortunately walking away from the incident. His time placed him second for the day in the combined times. Marquez had also crashed earlier in FP1 too. The Spaniard is aiming to make it three wins in a row after taking victory at the Sachsenring and Indianapolis.

Marc Marquez: “Today was a very productive day, we have obtained a lot of data and we have seen that this will not be an easy circuit. I am fast over a single lap, but I am finding it harder to set a constant pace. In FP2 we finished first, but more importantly we have made a step forward with our pace, because it seems that Lorenzo has a very fast rhythm. This afternoon we got close to him and we will see if tomorrow we can continue to improve, in order to be as close as possible to the top.”

Déjà premier le matin, Lorenzo a terminé la première journée du Grand Prix Red Bull d’Indianapolis juste devant Márquez.

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) a conservé la première position sur le classement des essais libres vendredi après-midi à Indianapolis, où il a devancé Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) de quelques millièmes de seconde à chacune des deux séances de la journée. 

Le Majorquin, qui avait fini deuxième derrière Márquez à Indianapolis l’an dernier, a signé le meilleur chrono de la journée l’après-midi, en 1’32.860, et a été trois millièmes de seconde plus rapide que Márquez, qui demeure invaincu aux Etats-Unis depuis son arrivée en MotoGP™ et pourrait enfin avoir trouvé un adversaire à sa hauteur en territoire américain. 
                         

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) et son coéquipier Andrea Iannone ont respectivement pris les troisième et quatrième positions, à trois dixièmes des deux leaders et juste devant Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda).

Confirmé chez Monster Yamaha Tech3 pour 2016 en début de journée, Pol Espargaró a lourdement chuté en highside dans le virage 13 et est resté à terre quelques instants avant de finalement se relever. L’Espagnol concluait la journée en sixième position, à une demi-seconde du temps de référence, devant Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) et son coéquipier Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3), avec qui il avait remporté les 8 Heures de Suzuka durant la trêve estivale. 

Dixième à 0.672s de Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) commence son week-end bien loin de ses objectifs mais continuera à travailler samedi afin de se montrer plus compétitif et de s’assurer les moyens de défendre sa position de leader du classement général ainsi que ses treize points d’avance sur Lorenzo.

Premier pilote Open, Héctor Barberá (Avintia Blusens) a terminé en quatorzième position, devant Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar), Nicky Hayden (Aspar MotoGP Team) et Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Blusens), qui avait signé le neuvième temps le matin. 

Stefan Bradl a conclu sa toute première journée avec l’Aprilia Racing Team Gresini en vingtième position, en ayant été 0.4s plus rapide que son nouveau coéquipier Álvaro Bautista. 
                            

Toni Elías, exceptionnellement de retour en tant que remplaçant de Karel Abraham chez AB Motoracing), s’est classé dernier et poursuivra son travail de réadaptation au MotoGP™ samedi à 9h55, heure locale (soit 15h55 en France métropolitaine), lors de la troisième séance d’essais.

Jorge Lorenzo came out on top on the first day of practice at the Indianapolis GP after a frenetic battle with Marc Marquez.

The MotoGP™ World Championship returned from its summer break to provide copious amounts of entertainment on the first day of practice at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. It was Jorge Lorenzo who took advantage of the blue skies and almost ideal conditions (47ºC Track Temp) to top both Free Practice sessions ahead of Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez. FP2 saw grip levels improved from the morning session as riders bedded in the track, and Lorenzo left it until his very last lap to set a 1’32.860.

Marquez was just three thousandths of a second further back in second overall and was the only other rider to break the 1’33 barrier, as he looks to make it 3 MotoGP™ wins in a row at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso (+0.295s) completed the provisional front row ahead of his teammate Andrea Iannone (0.306s) in fourth, as they both seemed to benefit from a private test at Misano during the summer break.
                       

CWM LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow (+0.326s) improved by over a second throughout the day to finish as the leading Satellite rider in fifth, ahead of Pol Espargaro (+502s) on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 M1 who suffered a nasty looking highside at the end of FP2 at turn 13.

Dani Pedrosa (+0.517s) on the second Repsol Honda ended the day in seventh, while Scott Redding (+0.583s) continued to show signs of improvement on the EG 0,0 Marc VDS Honda to finish in eighth. Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) set a time good enough for ninth overall, while the current Championship leader Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) found himself down in tenth on the combined timesheets, 0.672s behind his teammate Lorenzo.
                    

Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera was the leading Open class rider in 14th, ahead of the Factory Team Suzuki Ecstar GSX-RR of Aleix Espargaro in 15th, and local hero Nicky Hayden on the Aspar MotoGP Team Honda.
                       

Hayden’s teammate Eugene Laverty managed to end the day in 19th, with Stefan Bradl making his debut on the Factory Aprilia Racing Team Gresini RS-GP in 20th, 0.131s ahead of his teammate Alvaro Bautista.  Tony Elias, who is filling in for the injured Karel Abraham in the AB Motoracing team, finished the day in 23rd.

MotoGP3 ; Masbou dans le Top 3 sur les terres du Racing Team Germany / Quartararo prend ses marques au Sachsenring

Le Français s’est remis en confiance en retrouvant les avant-postes lors des essais libres de vendredi en Allemagne.

                  

Bien qu'ayant été victime d'un problème mécanique au Dutch TT, Alexis Masbou avait trouvé le rythme à Assen. Rythme qu'il confirme ce vendredi au Sachsenring en s'emparant du troisième temps au classement des deux premières séances d'essais libres, « C'était une bonne journée. Dès ce matin je me sentais déjà à l'aise avec un rythme rapide. », déclarait Masbou après la FP2, « La journée a bien commencé en FP1. Cet après-midi, nous avons travaillé pour encore améliorer mes sensations. J'ai été en mesure de réaliser un bon tour qui m'a placé en troisième position. C'est une bonne chose puisque nous confirmons notre forme grâce notamment aux modifications que nous avons réalisées à Assen. Ça rassure et ça fait évidemment du bien au moral de se retrouver régulièrement dans le Top 10 durant les séances et terminer 3e ce soir. Ce n'est que la première journée, il reste encore beaucoup de travail à réaliser. »

Entre ce matin et cet après-midi, les températures ont varié, mais ce n'est pas un facteur déterminant pour Masbou, « Je n'ai pas souffert des écarts de températures. Au contraire, j'ai trouvé qu'il faisait froid toute la journée. Nous avons plutôt souffert de la température à proprement parler. Les écarts de températures concernent principalement la cassure à droite. Sachant qu'en Moto3, nous sommes à fond dans ce secteur, cela nous gêne beaucoup moins que dans les autres catégories pour lesquelles le pneu monte moins en température. »

En première ligne provisoire à l'issue de cette première journée de l'épreuve à domicile du Racing Team Germany, le pilote français espère réitérer demain, « Je voudrais terminer en première ligne comme aujourd'hui. En étant tout à fait objectif, un Top 10 serait déjà le bienvenu. Il y a très longtemps que nous ne nous sommes pas montrés aux avant-postes aux qualifications. À Assen, nous avions cet objectif, mais nous nous sommes retrouvés une nouvelle fois très loin. Aujourd'hui, le classement a été très serré, excepté Kent qui semble légèrement au-dessus. Il va falloir faire un bon tour sans commettre d'erreur. Nous sommes en train de retrouver notre vitesse et nos sensations et c'est de bon augure pour la suite.»
                           

Le rookie français a fait ses premiers kilomètres sur le circuit allemand vendredi.

Fabio Quartararo (Estrella Galicia 0,0) est de nouveau face à un circuit qu’il doit découvrir ce week-end pour la neuvième manche du Championnat du Monde Moto3™ 2015 et s’en sort plutôt bien jusqu’ici puisqu’il a conclu la première journée du Grand Prix GoPro d’Allemagne en quatrième position, après avoir été deuxième le matin puis avoir été privé des dernières minutes de sa journée par un problème technique.

Fabio Quartararo :

« Nous avons eu de bonnes sensations dès le début de la première séance, sur une piste qui était nouvelle pour moi. C'est un circuit très différent de ceux où nous avons roulé jusqu'ici, avec beaucoup de virages à gauche, et je dois dire qu'il me plaît beaucoup. Le matin, avec une température de piste de 20°, il nous a manqué un peu de grip et puis l'après-midi, un problème technique nous a empêchés de finir la séance. Je suis quand même content de cette première journée de travail au Sachsenring et je suis sûr que nous pourrons continuer à progresser demain. »

MotoGP Márquez impose son rythme au Sachsenring / Marquez returns to form at the Sachsenring

Le Champion en titre est resté au sommet de la feuille de temps tout au long de la première journée au Grand Prix GoPro d’Allemagne.

              

Invaincu au Sachsenring depuis 2010, Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) a très clairement dominé la première journée du Grand Prix GoPro d’Allemagne et a constamment amélioré son meilleur temps personnel pour finir avec un chrono de 1’21.621 réalisé sur son tout dernier tour. 

Beaucoup plus confiant au guidon de sa RC213V depuis qu’il a repris la version 2014 du châssis Honda, le Champion du Monde en titre avait pu se battre pour la victoire jusqu’au bout à Assen lors de l’épreuve précédente, jusqu’à son contact avec Valentino Rossi, et tentera à nouveau de renouer avec la victoire ce week-end pour rattraper une partie de ses 74 points de retard sur le leader du classement général.

                   

Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) a grimpé jusqu’en seconde position en suivant Andrea Iannone (Ducati) en fin de séance. Le Britannique était au final à 0.119s de Márquez et comptait moins d’un dixième de seconde d’avance sur l’Italien. 

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) et Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) complétaient le Top 5 en étant à un peu plus de deux dixièmes de seconde de Márquez, départagés de trois petits millièmes de seconde. 

Arborant une livrée spéciale pour fêter les 30 ans de la GSX-R, Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar) a terminé la journée en sixième position, devant Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) et Scott Redding (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS), seuls pilotes du Top 10 à avoir été moins rapides l’après-midi que le matin.

                 

Après avoir décroché sa troisième victoire de l’année à Assen et un douzième podium consécutif en comptant ceux de la fin sa saison 2014, Rossi était plutôt bien parti le matin puisqu’il occupait la seconde position, à trois dixièmes de Márquez, mais a eu un peu plus de mal l’après-midi et a fini à une demi-seconde de l’Espagnol. 

Yonny Hernández (Octo Pramac Racing) et Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) figuraient eux aussi dans le Top 10 tandis que Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing) s’est distingué en tant que premier pilote Open mais en devançant surtout quatre pilotes sur prototype Factory : Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda), Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3), qui a chuté, Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) ainsi que Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing). 

Les Français Mike di Meglio (Avintia Blusens) et Loris Baz (Athinà Forward Racing) se sont respectivement classés dix-septième et dix-neuvième. 

Claudio Corti, qui remplace l’Allemand Stefan Bradl (Athinà Forward Racing), a fini dernière, derrière Michael Laverty, qui a pris la place de Marco Melandri au sein de l’Aprilia Racing Team Gresini et finissait juste derrière son frère Eugene (Aspar MotoGP Team).

De retour sur la grille MotoGP™ pour la deuxième fois de l’année en tant que remplaçant de Karel Hanika (AB Motoracing) après avoir couru chez Repsol Honda durant la convalescence de Pedrosa, Hiroshi Aoyama a chuté et terminé en 22e position mais reprendra la piste samedi matin à 9h55 pour la troisième séance d’essais du week-end.

The Spaniard was fastest in FP1, then went on to improve upon his time in FP2 to finish the day quickest overall.

Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez set a fastest lap time of 1'21.621 to finish on top today, despite not yet equalling the 1'20.937 lap he set to claim pole at the German GP last year.

Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) finished in 2nd place on the combined sheets, 0.119 sec off Marquez’s pace. He recently told motogp.com that he feels much more comfortable with the 2015 M1 than he has with previous iterations, feeling faster and more consistent pretty much instantly. This certainly shows today.

Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) came in third, only 0.084 sec slower than Smith, leaving Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha) in 4th.

 

5th place went to Marquez’s team mate Dani Pedrosa who put in a lap time 0.268 sec off the pace set by his Repsol Honda colleague. Honda has a good record in Germany - since the introduction of the 4-stroke MotoGP class in 2002, the Japanese manufacturer has been the most successful at the Sachsenring with 9 wins in total.

Aleix Espargaró - who is racing in a striking retro livery today celebrating 30 years of the GSX-R - came in sixth place for Team Suzuki Ecstar. He finishes just 0.007 sec quicker than Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha).

                    

Scott Redding (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS), Yonny Hernández (Octo Pramac Racing) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) complete the top ten.

Meanwhile it’s all change further down the MotoGP timesheets this weekend, with three new riders lining up to do battle at the Sachsenring:

Claudio Corti replaces Stefan Bradl for Athiná Forward Racing due to his broken scaphoid. Bradl was obviously disappointed to miss the German round: “It's really a shame to be forced to miss my home Grand Prix, but doctors have advised me not to rush the recovery in order not to jeopardize the rest of the season.”

AB Motoracing’s injured Karel Abraham has been substituted for Hiroshi Aoyama. The Japanese rider said: “It’s a strange feeling to be back again, I’m very sorry for Karel, but I’m very excited to jump on his bike.”

                

Michael Laverty also makes his return to MotoGP, permanently taking Marco Melandri’s ride in the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini. It’s a tough challenge replacing a rider mid season, but Laverty is no stranger to the Aprilia: “I have been riding with the Aprilia test team so I am comfortable with the Aprilia RS-GP machine and the Bridgestone tyres.”

               

The MotoGP FP3 session is due to to start at 9:55 local time on July 11.

Dovizioso et Ducati dominent la première journée au Mugello / Dovizioso and Ducati dominate opening day at #ItalianGP

Andrea Dovizioso a été l’auteur du meilleur temps à chacune des deux premières séances d’essais du Grand Prix TIM d’Italie.

À domicile ce week-end et sur un circuit où il était venu plus tôt dans le mois pour un test privé avec Ducati, Andrea Dovizioso a démarré très fort au Grand Prix TIM d’Italie et s’annonce déjà comme l’homme à battre pour les qualifications. 

Avec un nouveau casque mais aussi un nouveau carénage pour sa GP15, l’Italien a d’abord devancé d’un rien Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) et son coéquipier Andrea Iannone (Ducati) le matin avant de se confirmer en tête du classement l’après-midi, avec 0.164s d’avance sur Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda), vainqueur au Mugello en 2014, et 0.373s sur Lorenzo. 

Alors que les pilotes Factory de Honda et de Yamaha disposent de pneus arrière en gomme medium et dure ce week-end, ceux de Ducati ont le choix entre la gomme tendre et la gomme medium, que Dovizioso a privilégiée pour cette première journée afin de concentrer ses efforts sur la préparation de la course. L’Italien attendra samedi pour tirer profit de la gomme tendre et viser sa seconde pole position de la saison après celle du Qatar. 

Avec 33 points de retard sur Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), Márquez doit à tout prix revenir sur le podium ce week-end en Italie après l’avoir manqué au Mans et est bien parti puisqu’il avait commencé la journée en quatrième position, à un peu plus d’un dixième de Dovizioso, et l’a finie à la seconde place. Le Champion en titre avait l’an dernier remporté l’épreuve du Mugello juste devant Lorenzo, qui complétait le Top 3 de la journée.

Après avoir découvert qu’il souffrait d’une fracture à la tête de l’humérus (bras) gauche quelques jours avant de prendre la route du Mugello, Andrea Iannone (Ducati) n’a pas eu trop de soucis pour se montrer compétitif et a terminé en quatrième position, en étant toutefois le seul pilote du Top 10 à avoir réalisé son meilleur temps le matin plutôt que l’après-midi.

Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) est le premier pilote satellite dans le classement combiné, à plus d’une demi-seconde de Dovizioso, en cinquième position et juste devant son compatriote Cal Crutchlow (CWM LCR Honda).

Récemment opéré du pouce droit, Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar) a souffert sur les freinages et notamment celui de San Donato, au bout de l’une des plus longues lignes droites du calendrier, mais était tout de même septième, devant Scott Redding (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) et Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP). 

Sixième à quatre dixièmes de seconde du leader le matin, Rossi s’est ensuite fait distancer l’après-midi et a terminé neuvième sur le classement combiné, à sept dixièmes de seconde de Dovizioso et après une courte sortie de piste causée par un freinage manqué dans le premier virage.

Inscrit en wildcard sur GP15, Michele Pirro participe à son premier Grand Prix de l’année et s’est classé douzième, derrière Pol Espargaró (Monster Yamaha Tech3) et Yonny Hernández (Octo Pramac Racing).

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) a quant à lui conclu en quatorzième position, à près d’une seconde de la première place, tandis que Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing) était le premier pilote Open, à la seizième place. 

Les Français Loris Baz (Athinà Forward Racing) et Mike Di Meglio (Avintia Racing) occupent respectivement les 21e et 22e positions, juste devant Álvaro Bautista, qui étrenne la nouvelle transmission seamless de la RS-GP ce week-end avec l’Aprilia Racing Team Gresini. 

Les essais libres de la catégorie MotoGP™ reprennent samedi matin à 9h55 au Grand Prix TIM d’Italie.

Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso dominated the opening day at Mugello, topping both Free Practice sessions.

Ducati were always going to be a force to be reckoned with at Mugello, especially as the Factory team completed a private test at the Tuscany circuit recently, and they sent the partisan crowd home happy after topping the combined timesheets after day one of the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM.

Dovizioso improved his time from the morning session by over four-tenths of a second to set a 1.’47.479.  The Italian hitting the ground running straight away in FP1, clearly taking advantage of the data gathered during that test to find a good set-up straight away: “I am very happy with how this weekend has started for us and above all with the time I set at the end of the session. We are quick and this is fundamental in the search for the best set-up. We are still carrying out some tests in order to improve certain aspects of the Desmosedici GP15 that will allow us to be competitive right until the end of the race.

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez improved throughout the day as he tried a number of different set-up combinations in an effort to deal with the front end issues and engine problems the RC213V has been suffering from this season. The reigning MotoGP™ World Champion seemed to find something that worked, as he ended the day just 0.164s behind Dovizioso in second place overall: “Overall, today went quite well. It was a Friday in which we tried several things, especially in terms of electronics to try and improve the engine character, and I'm happy because we have taken a step forward. I’m not yet completely comfortable, but I felt pretty good and it seems that the direction we have taken is the right one.”

Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo came to Mugello full of confidence following his comprehensive victories at Jerez and Le Mans, and straight away, he looked fast and smooth around the 5.2km circuit. The Spaniard, who has not finished outside the top two in the last 6 races at Mugello, set the third fastest time of the day, just 0.373s off the top, although he feels there is room for improvement: “I‘m not completely satisfied with the way the bike is working. Concerning the setting of my YZR-M1, I think we have a big margin for improvement. Little by little we are going to make progress in most of the corners, but to begin the weekend with second and third place and a good pace is a nice start.”

Andrea Iannone ended the day in fourth overall, but admitted he had struggled to ride with his fractured arm that he injured in the Ducati Team’s private test at the circuit: “It’s not so much a question of pain, it’s more that I need too much strength, which in this moment I simply don’t have. I am not able to move my left shoulder the way I want to and so I’m losing a lot in the changes in direction, and there are a lot of them here at Mugello.”

It was a good day for British riders as Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith ended the day in fifth as the leading Satellite rider, managing to finish just ahead of his compatriot Cal Crutchlow on the CWM LCR Honda, with less than a tenth of a second separating the two. Smith was content with his pace, but knows he will have to step it up a gear tomorrow: “Overall, we’re less than two tenths back from the factory Yamaha of Lorenzo, so we are in a good place, but tomorrow we need to make another step forward to get into the 1’47 lap times.”

Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS’s Scott Redding showed signs of improvement as he finished in eighth overall, just behind the injured Aleix Espargaro on the Team Suzuki Ecstar GSX-RR in seventh. Espargaro underwent surgery on his right thumb to repair a damaged ligament after Le Mans and he was finding it hard to get enough brake pressure through his injured hand, with his team saying they will assess his injury session by session.

It was another hard first day of Free Practice for the current MotoGP™ World Championship leader Valentino Rossi, who found himself down in ninth place on the combined timesheets. Once again, the Italian struggled during the Friday of a Grand Prix weekend, emphasising his woes by running off track late on in FP2 as he pushed too hard: “I had some problems under braking. We tried to modify the setting so I could brake harder, but we didn‘t find a good solution and at the end I came back out on my normal bike and decided to try the harder tyre on the front and rear. The front wasn‘t so bad, but the rear was a bit too hard and I didn‘t have enough grip on the left side for me to push to the maximum.”

Pol Espargaro completed the top ten on the second Monster Yamaha Tech 3 M1, with Avintia Racing’s Hector Barbera finishing as the top Open class rider in 16th.
